Cracking result with The Goffer in the main betting race of the day. Really like this horse, and hopefully be betting him for a few years to come. Doubt I’ll be seeing him in Kim Muir now, so cashed out the Non NRNB part to take early profit.
Faivoir my main hope today, and if he could make frame, I’d be delighted. He’s got a chance, and I’m hopeful.
Kalashnikov, also at Newbury, is smaller bet. Was happy to bet him 20’s Antepost, in case race cut up. It hasn’t. I don’t actually want to bet him now, but I’ve actually had small top up as his odds doubled.
At Warwick, I thought Indefatigable was far too big if she could recapture old spark, while Twoconduit is an eyecatching runner. Don’t bet as many Ryan runners as I used to, but still, I don’t remember him sending too many across here. Not totally out of this anyway, but the odds, and the fact they’ve travelled is enough for me.
At Naas, just got the one. Park Hind seems to be fairly consistent, and thought there was solid EW shout. Good to see Annamix back, as well as a notebook horse of mine two years back, Finished Article. Be watching that pair closely. The one who goes straight in the current notebook though at Naas, is Samui. Very interesting type

February 12, 2023 at 10:36 #1635169Dismal yesterday. Should just have bet Samui
Was working, so missed Kalashnikov, which I think I might have been able to lay off if I’d been watching live, and Park Hind was close to a return, but he was only a small bet, so wouldn’t have made a difference.
As for the rest. Indefatigable looks gone, I’ve no idea now what Twoconduit was doing there, and Faivoir was bitterly disappointing.
Should leave it after that, but it can’t be any worse today surely. It might just be though, with the odds on this lot.
I’ve stuck with Sire Du Berlais in The Boyne Hurdle. I added Highland Charge, but cashed out, as he was a small top up, and can’t really justify two in this race. I do think Highland Charge has potential over hurdles. Sire Du Berlais wasn’t interested at Leopardstown, and if in the same mood here I can forget it. He’s been a good horse to me though, and if there’s a repeat today then so be it. What I will say though, is that if I’m the right mood, I’d give him a huge chance here, and he’s a mad price.
Plain or Battered is the type of lower grade bet, that I should be careful with, but his price looks wrong.
Fiveaftermidnight is another horse who’s been very good to me. She’s 50’s at the moment, and there was nothing wrong with her Borders National run. She pays her way, and even if today is not the day, I’ll give her a good go.
I’ll definitely top up these if I see bigger

1610 – Fiveaftermidnight 50’s EW 5PlsFebruary 19, 2023 at 01:46 #1636062After a poor show last weekend, bit more reserved yesterday, but Janidil and Mill Green kept me ahead.
Mill Green should have been a big bet, he looked EW Banker, but was a modest bet in the end.
Really happy with Janidil, and afterwards started to get quite excited about my Ryanair bet. Then Shishkin won, and I got a wee bit less excited.
Lowlight of the day was Regal Encore. I took him out of my list of bets, as he was just a sentimental selection, but I’ll not bet him again. Crisis of conscience betting him, and I can’t condone it. The stable retired my old favourite Jepeck, so they’ll surely retire Regal now. He was going backwards when he fell, and that is surely enough of a warning for them.
Decent sized bet today in Stones and Roses, though Coko Beach in as backup.
In the opener, Midnight Maestro is hitting double figures, and with a decent claimer up, I’m fairly confident he can go close.

National Trial – Coko Beach
National Trial – Stones and Roses 14’sFebruary 19, 2023 at 13:35 #1636140Unlucky with Midnight Maestro Bobby. Well done with Janadil, I haven’t looked at the DLAP threads for a while but knew when he crossed the line that you would be on.
Agree about Regal Encore. I’m surprised they didn’t retire him immediately yesterday and lead him past the stands, he deserved it.
February 20, 2023 at 15:47 #1636314Thanks Grass. Yeah, patiently waiting on them announcing the retirement, Saturday was the day. Disappointing
Very happy with Sunday, Midnight Maestro aside. Stones and Roses was a fairly big bet, so comfortably got my stake back in running, and the 7’s for Coko Beach was a real bonus. Very happy with that race, and hopefully go again with Stones and Roses in The Leinster National
February 22, 2023 at 21:21 #1636607Hi Bob, hope you are well
Any strong views on the handicaps now the entries are out. I’m still more or less avoiding any ante-posts at the moment, bar a handful of them
I’ll put them up at some point over the next few days
February 23, 2023 at 14:36 #1636678Hi mate all good here.
Just sticking to Kim Muir, Pertemps, and Martin Pipe for Anteposts. Just too many multiple entries to spend too much time on then. I’ll still go through them though, and maybe give my thoughts tonight or tomorrow, time permitting.
Hope you’ve got a few nice ones dug out. Ps check your messenger if you can
February 25, 2023 at 01:10 #1636920Quiet enough Saturday, but few bets here and there.
Most covered in Big Races. Frodon and Good Boy Bobby were bigger Anteposts for Kempton, so the absence of the latter means I won’t add anymore, and happy with my old pal.
Dans Le Vent was a much smaller Antepost, so happy to add No Cruise Yet in his absence. Mighty Thunder was also a smaller Antepost, and won’t add any more, and I’m happy with what I’ve got
Adding Midnight Our Fred at Fairyhouse, who’s got Danny Mullins booked. Think he can win a couple of races this one. Thanksforthehelp is my Pertemps Antepost, and though I’m wary of his OR, I’ve got to have a bit on him tomorrow in the Chepstow Qualifier

February 26, 2023 at 01:42 #1637058Really happy with that yesterday.
First time I’ve won on The Eider for a long, long time, with Mighty Thunder in running, adding to the No Cruise Yet returns.
Frodon gave it his all, but was win only, and was never really close to getting stake back.
Pride of place went to Thanksforthehelp. One of the easiest winners I’ve ever bet, and having got 13-2, he won like a long odds on shot. Everything crossed that he gets in The Pertemps Final now.
Was going to sit out Sunday, as struggled to find much. Neveradullmoment was my main selection at Naas, but I’m not betting him at a short enough price in a race like that. He’d definitely have to drift.
Battleoverdoyen has sort of paid his way since I earmarked him a couple of years back, though the bets have been smaller on him, and a win would be nice. Sensibly left him alone last time at the last minute, but this looks more suitable. I took 14’s, but wasn’t BOG, so with him drifting, I’d probably top up if he went bigger.
1410 Naas – Battleoverdoyen 14’s EW
March 4, 2023 at 13:51 #1637779Just in from work so not much waffle really today. Busier than expected, but things been going well, so for once I’m actually quite comfortable. I’ll be laying off obviously where possible, and The Premier Chase is a free race for me, with how the Empire Steel bet has went.

March 5, 2023 at 09:16 #1637889Moroder saved me from the pawnbroker…A great set of selections. It was a heck of a battle to keep his nose in front, I thought he might not at one point.
March 5, 2023 at 10:27 #1637900Thanks guys
That ride on Moroder was unreal, and I had written him off down the back. By the time he was scrubbing away though four out though, and even with him getting ridden, I knew he had it.
Grass, I actually bet a horse at 100’s in that race at Navan. I always bet the Midnights on their debut run, just in case, but it’s safe to say, I definitely picked the wrong one lol
Great day all round then. Morebattle was good race for once. Had sentimental selection on Benson, and I’m not sure how he managed it, but got the EW from Tritonic too. Donny Boy gave me a profit in running, and Empire Steel was just a serious return, and and from another never say die ride. He was never my favourite Sandy Thomson horse, but he didn’t half deliver yesterday.
Cotteemcavennigoal is a winner waiting to happen, and that’s certainly the case with Fiveaftermidnight, who was brought down last week, and then put out of the race by poor old Glenloe.
Glenloe was a horse I put up here after his first or second run as one to follow, but despite him being a “talking horse” every year in the lead up to Cheltenham, he never really got there. Don’t think I actually got round to betting him until the last twelve months, but I had a proper soft spot for him, and just a bloody shame. Running a big race too.
As usual, I’ll look to play on after that yesterday, and got two picked out. Unfortunately they’re both in same race.
I genuinely think Ilikedwayurthinkin could be an Aintree horse next year, and after being brought down last time, hoping for some compensation this time. I’ve taken 8’s, and though that’s BOG, I’ll look to top up anyway, regardless of the drift.
I don’t follow the Ryan horses like I used to, but when she’s a price, I usually bet Kitty Galore, and definitely betting her as she’s 33’s at the moment.
1655 Leopardstown

Kitty Galore EW 4plsMarch 11, 2023 at 15:06 #1638555Really liked the comeback from Gars De Sceaux last time, and a horse I’ve always liked, but just too short today at Gowran for me. Surely more to come.
I have went with another pair there though, and fairly hopeful

1545 – Kitty Galore 20’s EW 4plsMarch 12, 2023 at 14:59 #1638715Nothing much to shout about yesterday. Well that’s not strictly true, I was shouting a few expletives when Grange Walk won. I’m completely over it now.
Midnight Mary looked too big at Warwick today, and I’ve got a couple a keep (stupidly) topping up on, in a very average renewal of The Leinster National
1500 Warwick – Midnight Mary @ 10’s
Leinster National – Aione 16’s
Leinster National – Milan Native 40’s EW 5plsMarch 13, 2023 at 21:47 #1638957Not a complete disaster yesterday. Money easily back from Midnight Mary, and only went down narrowly to Haut Estime, who I bet at Aintree last year. She’s well back on the radar now.
Although I had a few top up bets on The Leinster National, it was still the least I’ve bet on one of these Irish staying races for a good while. It was a very weak renewal.
I’m still trying to work out that run from Aione, and no idea if I’d bet him again. Milan Native I’ll definitely bet again before the seasons out
On to Cheltenham now…………
All of these covered in the race threads.
Doctor Bravo was a notebook horse for handicaps after last run, but rocks up here instead with a very lenient looking mark up his cuff.
The Arkle is a race I rarely bet in, but I think Saint Roi is better than his price by some way. I don’t think it’s as strong a renewal as is being made out, do I have to put my money where my mouth is on that one.
The Ultima is a real feast or famine race for me. The price on Remastered is insane, even allowing for that last run. That was a worry. If he wins here, I’ll lay off for Aintree, as I don’t want him to go there. Recipe for disaster, and owners should stick to their guns. Talking of The National, I like The Goffer for next year, so have to keep going with him. Good Boy Bobby is a “one good race a season type, and having swerved Kempton, I can see him outrunning his odds
In The Boodles I’ve seen just enough from Sundial to risk him, though I really like Sir Allen too
Shame about Ramillies not going to NH Chase, but the exchanges have told the story for the last three weeks. Tenzing is a long term notebook horse, but went with Coolvalla, who I’m hoping can give me a run for my money.

National Hunt Chase – Coolvalla 80’s EWMarch 15, 2023 at 00:23 #1639337Most important horse on Day One was The Goffer, who got me not only stake back, but small profit on the race too. Crucial that, as was a big betting race. No shame in getting beat by Corach Rambler, who’s firmly in The Gold Cup picture after that.
Saint Roi ran ok, and nice enough profit from Sundial.
On to Day Two, and not confident about Ramillies, if they didn’t fancy him going up against that lot on Day One. Still think he’s a nice horse though, and happy with the price, which also applies to Editeur Du Gite.
Three handed in Coral Cup, and I had a late switch from Scaramanga to Riaan. Not a mad betting race though, and moderate stakes.
As I’ve said, Grand Annual is a disaster of a race for me, and got the two Midnights who I’d hoped would go for it, and notebook horse from last year, Call Me Lyreen. The one who’s really bugging me is The Last Day. I’d like to bet him, and if he doesn’t win tomorrow, I’ll bet him before the seasons out
Galvin is a horse I don’t have to say too much more about, and I just hope he does it. Mortal crazily overpriced too. Gin On Lime must have some sort of a chance, but I might lay some of that back.
As usual will be looking to claw stakes back, but unlike today with The Ultima, although a lot of selections, my biggest bet are the three Anteposts, Ramillies, Galvin, and Editeur
Edit – cashed out Gin On Lime for a small profit on him, just too many bets. He’s now a possible in running along with Battleoverdoyen and Scaramanga
