No great shock that that lot didn’t come in, and hopefully the good run will get back on track Saturday.
Loved that run though from Father Jed, and he’ll no doubt be bet half a dozen times this summer.
On to Saturday, and I almost bet Oh This Is Us at Haydock, but going to have a quiet Saturday, with Punchestown on the horizon.
Still considering Step Back and Hewick in the big one, but maybe two’s enough.
Really happy with my Antepost on Domaine De L’Isles, but Fidux requires a top up, and added EW, as he was bet further out and was slightly smaller bet. I’ll bring him in line with size of bet on Domaine De L’Isles
In the finale, Beyond The Clouds, who I’ve bet a few times, looks a big price back over hurdles, and I can’t leave him. Took 14’s, I’ll be happy to top up if I see bigger
Domaine De L’Isle 33’s EW
Fidux EW 5pls/40’s
Beyond The Clouds 14’sApril 26, 2022 at 00:46 #1595633She was too short a price for me tonight, but good to see Romantic Proposal win nicely at Naas, and look forward to following her through the summer.
Final week of my season, and it’s been a very good one, so just going to go for it this week.
Not got too many today right enough, but that’ll change as the week goes on.
In the opener, Mighty Meggsie has a bit to find, but I’ve seen enough to think she can make the four.
I’ve been waiting on Still Standing running since last Autumn, and he finally appears in The Killashee Hurdle. Thought the way he won at Gowran, was as if he had a bit more up his cuff. Just out the handicap, but happy to have a good swing at him and Hearts Are Trumps, who should be better here with a run under his belt. I’ll reluctantly leave Felix Desjy out.

April 27, 2022 at 01:35 #1595790Lot trickier today, and the opener is a proper puzzle.
I’ve taken a chance on Midnight It Is. Not a “Midnight” I’ve bet before, but seemed to finally click for him last time. Must have a good chance of finishing in the six. I’m very tempted by Thanksforthehelp as well, and he’s very interesting here.
Freedom To Dream would be my selection in the next, but at a short price I won’t jinx you BOF. Best of luck.
Nothing really grabbing me too much in the next, but I’m sure Crosshill is better than we’ve seen lately, and I’ll side with him, hopefully at double figures.
1720. Decided to cash out all bar a couple of my bets for Cheltenham next year. I really like The Nice Guy for The Brown Advisory, and as I couldn’t cash him out, I hope he continues his progress here, for all I won’t be betting him.
Gold Cup is some race, and I’ve sided finally with Galvin and Janidil. I’ve rambled on enough about Galvin in the past, but have to keep him onside here, in case I’m wrong with the Aintree angle. Janidil is getting turned out very quickly here off a heavy fall, and that may be worth noting, and he’s my biggest fancy of the day.
Annamix is the main fancy in the 1905, but I’ll be having a backup, and torn at the moment between Aramax and Foxy Jacks.
At Ascot, Pettochside back out, and though I won’t get 50’s this time, had to have him at 10’s
1540 – Midnight It Is 11’s EW 6pls
1645 – Crosshill
1710 – Ascot – Pettochside 10’s
Gold Cup – Galvin 13-2
Gold Cup – Janidil EW 4pls
1905 – Annamix 14’sApril 28, 2022 at 00:20 #1595917Very happy with Crosshill today, and got my double figures, just, at 10’s. Midnight It Is also paid his way in running.
Delighted also with The Nice Guy, and I’ll certainly not be cashing it in now, while my feeling that Galvin will be aimed at Aintree, seemed more realistic after that run today.
No complications today, and looking to have one selection in five of the races.
The opener is a typical tricky Punchestown handicap, and I’m with Powersbomb. Seemed to benefit from his previous run when last seen, and I think that although a 12yo, he can get involved here at a price. He’s on a fair mark, and was in good form this time last year. I’ve taken 50’s EW seven places. I’d happily top that up if he went bigger.
Grange Walk is my idea of the winner in the next, but I’ll happily leave him unless he drifts dramatically.
Been giving a good mention to Thedevilscoachman for a while now, and he’s a straightforward selection in the big one for me, while another JP Runner, A Great View looks way overpriced in the 1800
Fiveaftermidnight and Neverushacon are two proper favourites, and regulars on these threads. I’d expect a good run for my money from the pair of them.
1540 – Powersbomb 50’s EW 7pls
1650 – Neverushacon 6’s
1725 – Thedevilscoachman

This is what we like to see! Well done mate, think we’ve got the right race for him, the way he powered up the Cheltenham hill was really impressive, seemed to just be idling today which is no issue as I’m sure he will be played late in 11 months time assuming he makes it in one piece and likes fences.
April 28, 2022 at 21:04 #1596016Yeah Ben, could certainly lay off now, but definitely keeping it.
Delighted with the picks today, and really good day.
Got 18’s for A Great View, and he won it well, while Powersbomb got the EW at 50’s, and my old pal Fiveaftermidnight delivered yet again, this time with 22’s EW. She’s just a cracking horse to follow.
Only Neverushacon failed to deliver, but interesting that he was pulled up early, and with an entry Saturday, was he pulled up with that in mind?
Really keen on Alpha Male in the opener Friday, but way too short for me.
In the 1615, I’ve taken a chance on the Willie Mullins trained Grand Bornand. Jumping needs to improve, but been watching him for a while, and on handicap debut, gave him a real chance of making the frame.
In The Champion Hurdle Honeysuckle remains a fantastic horse, and will be extremely difficult to beat, but as mentioned earlier, I’m with Saint Roi Antepost, and I’d be delighted if he made the frame.
Kilcruit has been a bit of a disappointment this term, but I thought 6’s way too big.
I’ll probably bet in the later races too, but the only other one I’ve bet so far is Dorking Cock in The Hunters. I was surprised at 14’s, and I’d happily top that up if he went out some more
1615 Grand Bornand 25’s EW 5pls
1725 Saint Roi 50’s EW 3pls
1800 Kilcruit 6’s
1835 Dorking Cock 14’s EWApril 28, 2022 at 21:39 #1596017A fine set of selections today, VTC. Powersbomb and Fiveaftermidnight were a great ew bets, and A Great View a super winner. I wasn’t able to see the races, but the results speak for themselves. I shall catch up and watch the race recordngs. Hope you maintain your form tomorrow.
April 30, 2022 at 01:26 #1596218Thanks Sungold, much appreciated, certainly enjoyed it.
Less said about the Friday selections the better, though did take my stake back in running on Saint Roi. That definitely didn’t make a huge difference overall, as was just a smaller Antepost. Kilcruit is not my kind of horse, not my kind of price, and that wasn’t my kind of race, but he turned out to be biggest bet of the day unfortunately.
As for Saint Roi, I really think he could be winning The Galway Hurdle, and I’ll have a decent swing at him if he goes for it. Stablemate Grand Bornand is still of interest to me, and he might have a decent race in him during the summer.
Last day of my season then, and just going to go for it.
Empirestateofmind and Movin Time are my two main hopes on the flat. Empirestateofmind was an Antepost, and particularly keen on Movin Time.
If any joy from that pair, I’m also looking at Some Day Soon, Francky Du Berlais, and Romain De Senam at Uttoxeter.
On to Punchestown, and I’ll stick with old Neverushacon. As I said on Thursday, I thought he was looked after, and he’s a very nice EW price.
I’m really keen on Class Conti in the next, and he’s main selection, though as I’m going for it last day, I’m happy to have two backups in Easysland and Scoir Mear (cashed out Anibale Fly)
Man O Work is my Antepost selection in the 4yo hurdle, and I think he can acquit himself well, and still looks a fair price.
Ten Ten is a horse who’s let me down more often than not, but I’m back for more, and no way is he a 33-1 shot. I’ll never learn. Just the one backup here, and I went with Wa Wa.
The big handicap hurdle is always a real headscratcher, but I’ve no concerns with Peregrine Run off a break, and I think he could run well at a big price. I’m considering two backups in this, and considering Saint D’oroux, but definitely adding The Shunter.
Far too many selections, but last day of my season, so just going for it.

The Shunter 16’sMay 5, 2022 at 06:43 #1596954VtC – A season for you to look back on and to celebrate some quite amazing selections that came good. It’s a tribute to all the study that you must put in, attention to detail and in the end, intuition which produces your fine judgements. I am sure, too, that your love of the horses plays a big part in it.
May 7, 2022 at 01:13 #1597166Thanks Sungold, that’s much appreciated, been a bloody good one.
Yeah, the horses themselves are a massive part, realised that as I get older. I usually wrap this up a couple of days after Punchestown, but after last Saturday, needed away from it altogether. Two main fancies last Saturday, Class Conti and Ten Ten. Both running in staying chases, both died on the flat.
Of the twelve horses I took in The Ten To Follow, only nine made it to the end of the season, including Midnight Shadow. Four fatalities at Cheltenham. I bet two of them. It takes its toll.
As I said though a few months back, totally immersed in it, and I’ll keep wrestling.
On a brighter note, Tiger Roll made it out in one piece, and I’m just getting over The Cross Country.
On a happier note, it was a very good season, and plenty of highlights.
Hard to split Tornado Flyer in The King George, and Stattler, but Stattler probably wins it. Was a proper Antepost punt, and putting it on as far back as the Friday of Cheltenham last year, was some buzz. Less said about the rest of Cheltenham the better.
Plenty of other highlights though, and memorable wins from
Dalton Highway
Justanotherbottle
Romantic Proposal
Ontheropes
Dans Le Vent
Midnight Shadow
Since Day One
Jepeck
Conflated
Suprise Packagemade it one to remember.
Obviously a few disappointments, not least Grand Paradis and Time To Get Up, while Escaria Ten couldn’t quite deliver, but he at least paid for my Grand National book. He’ll remain on my radar for next year when he might be a price somewhere.
Looking ahead, as far as the summer goes, not too many on the radar, but I’ll continue to follow Chiefofchiefs, Dalton Highway, Euchen Glen, Justanotherbottle, and Romantic Proposal on the flat when the time and price is right, while Rogue Bear is a new one I’ll be following, and I also like the look of O’Briens Toy.
Summer Jumping targets include the likes of Erick Le Rouge, and Romain De Senam for the big pots at Uttoxeter and Market Rasen. (Poor Erik no longer with us)
Galway seems a fair way off, but hopefully see Stratum get an entry for The Plate, and I think
Saint Roi is ideal for The Hurdle.Definitely right time for a break though, but hopefully back with a new thread for Royal Ascot.
May 7, 2022 at 14:57 #1597316I’m relieved that Roman de Senam only won at a ridulously shirt price the other day as he’s very much a cliff horse for me these days. What a tough horse he is though. I’m always gunning for the Pipes.
May 9, 2022 at 22:58 #1597522Think he’s got a decent race in him, and I’ll be with him when he’s a price definitely. Nice run the other day and also at Aintree
May 18, 2022 at 16:10 #1598446Hope you ok Bob any views on Golf thread is up
And see entries for Wokingham and hunt cup out now and prices
After Victoria cup I think Fresh wins Wokingham travel very well at 7f and drop to 6f ideal if get some rain to
And ONE RULER a Classy 2yo 7f way to short however I feel Charlie ran him there to give him experience in a big field. Comes on for run and could easily win it.
