Ulster National not a complete disaster, despite the best attempts of Thunderosa. Not sure what was going on, but Thunderosa was still at a layable price when pulling up, and got my cash back, while money back easily on Amaulino. Bizarre race, but I’ll take it.
Loads of fancies today, but unfortunately a lot of them short enough.
I’ll stick with Antepost pick Rogue Bear in The Lincoln, while as expected the other pick, Father of Jazz, goes to Kempton. Rogue Bear might not be the type of winner we get in this now, but he’s unexposed himself, and he’ll be trying alright. He’s worth an EW top up. Father of Jazz looked a little overpriced to me, though wish I had taken that 9’s Antepost. Headgear should surely get some improvement.
Justanotherbottle is a regular of mine, and has already paid his way this season for me, and though I’m very hesitant with him first time out, the three places makes a huge difference.
Empirestateofmind is another I really like at Doncaster, but on a day where I have too many possible selections, I have to be cautious. Same applies to Kaizer at Kelso. Another shortie is the interesting newcomer in the opener at The Curragh, Midnight Toker. If I had ever named a Midnight, it would have been Midnight Toker, so at around 9-4 for top connections, he’s got to be at least permed in.
Also at The Curragh is The Irish Lincolnshire. I’ve tried to narrow it down to one, but I’ll split Saltonstall, and Yermanthere. Saltonstall I have my doubts about first time out, while the rise for finishing fifth last time, seems excessive for Yermanthere, but I’ll chance the pair of them.
At Stratford, he’s unreliable, but I just have the feeling that today’s the day for San Pedro De Senam.
Magnolia – Father of Jazz 5’s
Cammidge – Justanotherbottle EW 3pls
1528 Stratford – San Pedro De Senam 8’s
Lincoln – Rogue Bear EW 7pls/40’s
Irish Lincolnshire – Saltonstall 14’s
Irish Lincolnshire – Yermanthere EW 7plsMarch 26, 2022 at 23:47 #1589964Rogue Bear was main bet of the day, so got to be happy with that, and he’s one I’ll be sticking with. As I said, great attitude, likeable horse that.
I didn’t expect too much from Justanotherbottle or The Irish Lincolnshire pair.
I was a little bit disappointed with how it worked out for Father of Jazz, he really should’ve won, and I’m sure the he wouldn’t mind riding that race again. Not the best, but got lots of that to look forward to this summer. I’ll certainly stick with Jazz. Got San Pedro wring though, and he was average.
Great to see Euchen Glen back this year. Season tailed off a bit last year, and he’s not one to bet first time out really, but I’ll always bet him, though I’ll only stick him up as a bet this season if I proper fancy him.
Main interest tomorrow is Seemorelights at Carlisle, and I’m hoping the ground isn’t too unfavourable, while Wandrin Star looks a fair price at Ascot.
1426 Carlisle – Seemorelights
1555 Ascot – Wandrin Star 6’sApril 1, 2022 at 11:14 #1590594Wandrin Star almost did the business Sunday, but he ran a cracker, and though he eventually went off 14’s, I was expecting 16’s, 18’s, so a profit on him in running. There certainly wasn’t a profit on Seemorelights.
I usually try to avoid the first day of the Scottish National Meeting, as my record is desperate. Looking at Since Day One though, and he’s out to 5’s now. He’s really paid his way for me this year, but I’ll wait till nearer the time. I’ll see what the grounds like, and also wait and see if there are any late Non Runners, in case the 5’s becomes 2’s.
Old friend The Mouse Doctor is running as well, but I’d probably only go with him if I ended up betting Since Day One, and he won.
Notebook horse Coach Carter is also over, and though he’s got Davy Russell up, he’s drifting badly. Very impressive when he won at Listowel, but very poor since. Again, could only consider him off an earlier winner.
At Newbury, it’s good to see Erick Le Rouge back, but he’s got questions to answer over hurdles, and off the back of a long layoff. He might be of interest during the summer over fences. Possibly one for the big races at Market Rasen or Uttoxeter.
I’ve only bet Neverushacon once since his run in the corresponding race last year, but even with Ben Dundee in there, the price of 28’s drew me in. I just couldn’t let that go, and he’s been good to me, and they’re also persevering with him. Win only, but hopefully at least get money back.
1800 Wexford – Neverushacon 28’s
April 1, 2022 at 14:14 #1590620Hah I knew you wouldn’t miss him, Harrington horses running a bit better now too. Robin is in the same race so I’ll put a 50p ew on each of them. How quickly our pals reach the geriatric race stage!
April 1, 2022 at 14:51 #1590624I just couldn’t resist one last go at that price……..here’s hoping we get the forecast up.
Best of luck with your old pal
April 2, 2022 at 01:22 #1590703Delighted with old Neverushacon yesterday, and as hoped, got my stakes back and more. Didn’t bet any of the others, but as happy as I was for not betting Since Day One, I missed two decent EW’s on Erick Le Rouge 28’s, and Coach Carter 20’s. Hopefully see more of Erick during summer.
Possibly get a chance to see Coach Carter sooner than that, with him still engaged in The Scotty Brand Chase. I’ll wait and see if he goes there first, because I also really like Gold Des Bois in that race, so I’ll decide nearer the off.
Covered the two big races at Ayr elsewhere, but with four in the big one, imperative that I try to get my stake back in running.
Later on the card I like Better Getalong, and he looks a fair EW Bet at current price.
At Newbury I bet Nina The Terrier and Valadom Antepost, and Valadom looks well worth a top up.
Veterans – Valadom EW 4pls/16’s
Scottish CH – Alqamar 25’s EW 4pl/33’s
Mares Final – Nina The Terrier 12’s
Scottish National – Fidux 40’s EW 7pl
Scottish National – Hill Sixteen 25’s
Scottish National – Major Dundee 16’s
Scottish National Vintage Clouds 33 EW 7
1645 Ayr – Better GetalongApril 6, 2022 at 22:50 #1591530Happy enough with that on Saturday.
Main return was from Fidux at 66’s. Hopefully Bet365 can continue to match Skybet with the maximum places as their BOG makes a huge difference. Had a good few quid on the race, so I was happy to come out ahead.
Decent EW from Better Getalong, and money comfortably back in running from Valadom and Nina The Terrier.
Only disappointing race was Alqamars, not only because he flopped, but having to watch Anna Bunina do the business a year too late.
Onto Day One at Aintree, and expecting the usual feast or famine. Had some rough days here, but straightforward selections, so not too messy.
Brazil is too short this time, but hoping for a big run, while in The Bowl, a race where I usually look for an outsider, I’ll go Nuts Well, and hope he gets fourth.
I’m with Before Midnight Antepost, and hoping for a good run. Like this horse a lot.
Had initially cashed out McFabulous, seemed an unnecessary Antepost, and happy to add him now. Been following him since the very early days, and don’t see why tomorrow can’t be his big day.
The Dellercheckout is hard to justify in The Hunters, but travelled well for a long way at Ludlow, and been winning in Points, so a bit of fun in a sphere where I rarely bet.
Bowl – Nuts Well EW 4pls
Aintree Hurdle – McFabulous 14’s EW 3p
Hunter – The Dellercheckout 150’s/7pl
Red Rum – Before Midnight 9’s
April 8, 2022 at 01:18 #1591904McFabulous made it a happy Day One. He was my main hope of the day, and the BOG with the three places made a big difference, and was enough to keep me ahead. Before Midnight was slightly disappointing.
The other two were more bets for a bit of interest, and fared accordingly.
Day One was nice and tidy, but Day Two is a complete mess.
Alder Hey Hurdle
Tronador is the one that really appeals in a repeat bid, but Broomfield Burg and Solwara One also appeal. I’ll almost certainly bet Tronador, but at the moment, I can only say for certain that I’ll back Some Day Soon who’s a spring horse, and ran ok here in October.Top Novices
Suprise Package is a straightforward selection here. Nothing wrong with his run in The County, and I’ll be disappointed if he’s not in the threeMelling
Allmankind and Editeur Du Gite both risky, but have to be with both. Allmankind did me a turn in The Old Roan, and hoping this is long term plan. I’ve been tracking Editeur Du Gite all season, and put him up a few times. I think he should run well here.Topham
What a mess. Do I go four or five. Do I go Win or EW. Already bet Batcio at 25’s, after he caught the eye at Fairyhouse. Annamix is straightforward as he’s long term fancy. Palmers Hill is automatic, and I’ve given my thoughts on him for a while now. Snugsborough Hall placed in this last year, and smashing run over hurdles last time. Janika an old regular in the past, though bet him sparingly in recent times. Initially put on thread I was ditching him. Changed my mind, and he’ll be in running.Sefton
Haut Estime looks slightly overpriced here, and though the outsider of the field, I’ll be adding her EW 5pls if any earlier luckConditionals
Really like Homme Public, but sticking with Faivoir EW 5pls at moment
1530 Allmankind
1530 Editeur Du Gite EW 4pls

1715 Faivoir 14’s EW 5plsApril 9, 2022 at 01:40 #1592253What a day that was. Started badly, very badly. Tronador was only a small bet as the sub, but in the next, had a decent bet on Suprise Package, and he was really poor. He’s better than that.
Allmankind was equally as bad, but things improved with money nearly back on Editeur Du Gite.
Then came The Topham. I ended up betting all five of them EW. Annamix 50’s, top up on Batcio 28’s, and Janika 25’s. Topped that with lays in running on Batcio and Janika, and it turned out a great race. Bet365 are matching places regularly with Skybet now, and they’re keeping the BOG. Makes huge difference that.
Followed that up with the EW as planned on Haute Estime at 100’s, and watching her sneak in to the places was a pleasure. Faivoir then got the EW to finish the day off nicely.
Apologies for the slight aftertime, but the three of you who read this will know that I then went in on Fiveaftermidnight at Ballinrobe. Took the 11’s, and she won nicely. An absolutely great end to a good day, and pressure totally off for Day Three.
Well it’s here, the biggest race of the year, and can’t wait. Great supporting card too.
EFT Construction Hurdle
Not the race I had in mind for Remastered at the start of the season, but here we are. The more I think about him, the more I’m sure he’s going back for some justice at Newbury in November. First things first he can go well here. He’s win only, but as per my old pal Dans Le Vent will be EW. Smashing horse who never lets me down.Crazy good race though, and I had plans for a third, but I couldn’t pick between Beauport, Mill Green, Saint Doroux, ilikedwayurthinkin, If The Cap Fits, or The Cob. Just a cracking race, and I’ll go with that pair.
Liverpool Hurdle
I know how strong the opponents are, and I know the ground possibly not helping, but I’ve topped up Roi Mage to four places.Betway Chase
Always an overlooked race this. Great line up every year, and I’ve went with Wishing and Hoping, who’s really paid his way this year, and Didero Vallis who may not love this ground, but ran a cracker in Kim Muir.I’ll top up if I see bigger than 33’s
Grand National
Already did my preview on the race thread, but quick recap.Any Second Now – no secret what I think of this horse. Would have won last year, but for being hampered, and looked the strongest candidate in 2020 before the race was lost to the lockdown. Very good horse who at least as good as his mark.
Commodore – One of my favourite winners of the season, that was a joy to watch that day. Seems a long time ago I was touting him for all sorts, but it was worth the wait, and great to finally see him here.
Escaria Ten – My long ranger for this, and always my #1. Slightly cooled on him due to concerns about how he’s finished the last twice. He’s paid for every bet on the race, still can’t believe that 90’s, and even with that lay, he’ll easily be in my top ten biggest single winners ever. I’m just struggling to see it though.
Freewheelin Dylan – Everything in his favour, providing they don’t water too much. The price is nuts.
Samcro – I nearly always bet him, or at least tout him. Do I think he’ll do it. Nope. I’ll guess PU 19th
Just cannot wait, and regardless of result, I’m happy it’s all paid beforehand. Still think Delta Work will win, and for a horse I’ve been betting regular for four years, shameful that I didn’t bet him early. He owes me not a bean though.

Samcro 50’s NRNBApril 9, 2022 at 13:26 #1592390If remastered doesnt win today ill be disappointed, 10s currently looks massive to me,
Main two in the national are two for gold & mount ida as i find her a but of an enigma, id be most pleased if she was sat out the back, way out the back.
Will be adding in FWD also e/w,
And for the added aftertiming (something i have never ever done on here, ever) i was totally against delta work in the CC, but to my absolute confusion, i backed him for the national for a MINIMUM bet on the exchanges @90s, i dont remember when, i dont remember why and i cannot remember the last time i had a minimum bet in anything, its so insignificant that even if he won i wouldnt break even on the race due to my usual bet sizing, FWIW im totally against him in this aswell, im not even going to bother laying it off even though im so against him
April 9, 2022 at 15:06 #1592442Ham, I really think Remastered will be aimed at Newbury again. Wee bit flat today, but not too disheartened.
Good luck today, especially with that Delta Work bet
April 13, 2022 at 00:13 #1593354Saturday couldn’t have got off to a much worse start, with EW Banker Dans Le Vent going at the first, and Remastered fading away, but it wasn’t long in picking up.
Not listed above, but added Sire Du Berlais (in race thread) at 22’s, and he was a very nice winner. I’ve certainly had my moments with him, and it was some nice consolation for the frustration in The Pertemps.
Cracking run from Wishing and Hoping in The Betway Chase. He was quite a confident selection, and though he eventually faded, he got me a decent profit in running.
As for The National, was hard to enjoy afterwards with the loss of two horses, but at the time, it went great. I was already ahead (very slightly) before the off, but got a good few quid back in running from Any Second Now and Freewheelin Dylan, with Commodore the only disappointment. Venetia had a poor few days, and I’ll stick with Commodore next year.
Any Second Now just a smashing horse. Convinced he’d have won in 2020, but for the Covid scare, and he looks even unluckier now, after his misfortune last year. I was deflated last year, as he’d been a decent bet, but took it on the chin this year, as got a few quid back, and he wasn’t main bet.
Main bet was obviously Escaria Ten. I was mad keen on him start of season, but as I’d said beforehand, I just had my doubts about him lasting home, and so it proved. He travelled really well throughout, didn’t always convince with his jumping, but ran a sound race. I could’ve laid him in running too, but after what I’d laid back on him in the lead up, I couldn’t bring myself to give away any more. Not sure what they’ll do with him now, but he’s a “target horse” of theirs, and I’ll try to strike at right time. Not quite what I was hoping for with him, but with that green book in my biggest betting race of the year, he certainly paid his way.
Was always going to be betting this midweek, with that decent card at Cheltenham.
Manofthemountain landed this last year, but comes here 5lbs higher, and off the back of a shocking run last time. He’s risky, but was happy with the 7’s Antepost.
Notachance was much more like it last time, and if he can handle this ground, the 12’s is way too big, and he’s on a nice mark.
Herbiers was solid if not spectacular at The Festival, and though 5’s was a bit low for me, had to add him, as he should go close. I’m sure he’s much better than this mark.
1405 – Manofthemountain 7’s
1550 – Notachance 12’s
1700 – Herbiers 5’sApril 15, 2022 at 13:11 #1593763Manofthemountain very poor again, and hard to justify following him again, though maybe when he’s a price, while Notachance ran ok. I know I’ll definitely bet him again.
Herbiers was only proper bet, and having decided reluctantly not to lay off stake before the race, I also missed him in running, when he went way short, as I thought he was always going to get there. He didn’t. Wasn’t best pleased. He’s been a smashing horse to follow though, and I’ll surely get that back.
Quiet Saturday but I’m with Rogue Bear in The Sprint Cup, and I’ll not add to my Antepost bet, happy enough with that, and it looks a strong race, so not one to go overboard with. All of those at the head of the market look dangerous, and Oh This Is Us, who seems to run every week, and never gets my attention, actually appeals this time, but I’ll stick to one.
Decent race that, and same applies to The Rybo Hurdle. I could bet a dozen of them, including the likes of Dad’s Lad, Felix Desjy, and Hannon, but I’ll give He’s A Hardy Bloke one more try, and although I’d have like Hearts Are Trumps to have a prep run, he should have a good chance of making the six at big odds. If he doesn’t deliver here, I’ll bet him at Punchestown as he’s sure to have a target there.
Edit – HAHB only a possible in running now, and I’ve jumped up Felix Desjy
My Manekineko is the only other bet tomorrow, if he doesn’t shorten too much, while I’ll be quite interested to see how newcomers Heathen, and Martinstown get on in their debuts.
Spring Cup – Rogue Bear 8’s

1734 Haydock – My ManekinekoApril 18, 2022 at 02:16 #1594315Should really have laid Rogue Bear before the off for a free race, but let it ride, as he’s already paid his way in The Lincoln. Happy again with him, and I’ll continue to follow him. Should have a big race in him this year.
Rybo Hurdle was poor but My Manikeneko ran a screamer, great ride, and not sure how he didn’t win. Valadom was my craziest lay in running of the season, but My Manikeneko wasn’t far behind.
Sat out Sunday which was unusual. Good days racing, but just couldn’t see a bet. No such problems today.
Very tempted by Chiefofchiefs, but I’ll watch without a bet, unless any profit from earlier.
Covered all races at Fairyhouse in Big Races, but at Cork, I thought Kildoderry was a fair bet at 10’s.
Happy with two of my three in the big one, and I’m really hopeful about Time To Get Up.

1740 – Thunderosa 40’sApril 19, 2022 at 00:18 #1594516Good day today with Kildorerry and Screaming Colours giving me decent returns, and money back for Early Doors, while Thunderosa went like clockwork.
Even with the Rule 4, Kildorerry was a nice return, and he looked the winner the whole way, while I’ve Jamie Codd to thank for the EW in The Irish National. Went right off Early Doors in the lead up, but thought he ran very well, and maybe one for Aintree next year.
I mentioned that Valadom lay in running yesterday, and Thunderosa was in a similar vein. Really happy with that.
The rest were poor, and the 1515 didn’t go well as I added Scoir Mear once he snuck in.
Decent day though, and enough for me to have a rare Tuesday play.
I used to bet old Pettochside a lot, but reckon it’s three years since I backed him. He’s 13yo, but he’s started well the last few seasons, and I have to be with him.
Brelan D’As is another I used to bet occasionally, and I just wonder if today is the day. These Hallam horses can give you a bit of fun if you time it for the right price, and below his last winning mark, I make him better than a 20-1 shot.
1340 Sedgefield – Brelan D’As 20’s
1350 Epsom – Pettochside 28’s EW 4plsApril 21, 2022 at 12:58 #1594997Not so good from Brelan D’As, but delighted with Pettochside who hit 50’s, and made a big difference to the returns.
Trying to keep the midweek stuff to a minimum as the end of my season approaches, and also with Punchestown on the horizon, but went with a couple today.
The Late Legend has caught my eye a few times, but having not been tempted before, I’d give him a chance today.
Harder to make a case for is Y Fyn Duw A Fydd at Kilbeggan, but I thought a seen a glimmer of promise in a couple of maidens, and headgear is on for Handicap Debut.
1630 Warwick The Late Legend 7’s
1715 Kilbeggan – Y Fynn Duw A Fydd 18’s EW 5 plsApril 21, 2022 at 23:34 #1595084Decent few days continue and loved the way The Late Legend win that today. His jumping was the real difference, and happy to get 15-2.
Just as happy with Y Fynn Duw a Fydd. I was apprehensive putting up her up, but I was sure I’d seen something in her maiden hurdles, and she ran a cracker into second. Definitely be with her again.
After the last few days, the way it normally goes is that I’ll draw a complete black, so I’ll go for a couple tomorrow to improve my Saturday. Funny how the mind works.
Lincoln winner Johan has a big task in The Bet365 Mile at Sandown, but he might just be a little overpriced here.
At Perth, Smoking Gun is not my type of price at 7-2, but I have to add him for interest. Put him up a few times in the past, and never came close to delivering, but I think that’s a fair price for him.
Looking forward to my usual summer/autumn of trying to second guess when’s the right time to back John Ryan runners. Father Jed will definitely be one of those, though I’m not confident at around 33’s, especially off a long break. He’s good enough, but maybe one for a couple of runs time.
Not confident selections tonight, but as I said, after a few good days, got to keep going, and no harm if they don’t deliver.
