Here we go again, and as per, my season will run from Royal Ascot until Punchestown. Going to have my work cut out to repeat last season, but I’ll give it a good go
Until yesterday, only had three bets since I finished up in May, (well apart from the odd “Midnight”). Love Billy Boy for The Hunt Cup, Brazil in The Killarney National, and Neveradullmoment in The Mayo National, so probably wise to have laid low.
I’ll try to keep it to bigger prices as usual, and always be trying to claw stakes back when possible. Feel like I say this every year, but will be looking to avoid those days where I have too many selections. Easy enough at the start of my season, but the trick will be to stop having nine selections on some random Saturday in January. This is a direct copy and paste from last year, and very happy with how I managed to stick to it. More or less
I’m not rocking up with as many Anteposts this year, and I’ll try to be as guarded as possible. I won’t stick to that. No way
My big hope for a decent Flat Prize this year is Love Billy Boy, and hope he sneaks in Thursday, while later in season, I’ll be keeping tabs on Cicero’s Gift. Ideally I’d like to see Falcon Eight kept at it too, and if he turns up somewhere at a price, Trustyourinstinct. Think
Goldie could have some fun with Midnight Lion tooOver the jumps, got a few in mind, outwith the ones already bet Antepost
The obvious one would be Haiti Coleurs for Coral Gold Cup at Newbury
Few Mullins horses as usual make plenty of appeal, and the darkest one is Nt Field Minnesota. I genuinely think he looks ideal for a “National”, and I was thinking Cork. I like Appreciate It for The Thyestes (again), and think Mister Policeman is worth a repeat bid in The Galway Plate.
Talking of Galway, I still really like the idea of Brazil for The Galway Blazer
I’ll continue to be very wary of Sandy Thomson runners this year, but his Dedicated Hero is decent, and looks ideal for something like The Rendlesham
Georges Saint was a notebook horse of mine, but has never really delivered, but small signs of encouragement, and wonder if he could be one for Welsh Mational. Imperial Saint looks perfect for Old Roan too.
Others high on shortlist this year, are……
Brookie
Champ Kiely
Classic Getaway
Doctor Du Mesnil
Duffle CoatThey can all wait though, and Royal Ascot first. What a week, and I’ll be having a punt in every race.
I usually start with Queen Anne, but nothing really floating my boat yet, certainly nothing to put up, so I’ll wait until Ascot Stakes for first selection on here.
Dawn Rising is an old favourite, and he’s just too big for me. Interesting that he goes here
In The Copper Horse, going with two, and slight preference for Fairbanks.
Ascot Stakes – Dawn Rising EW6/28’s
Copper Horse – Fairbanks EW6/20’sJune 17, 2025 at 00:11 #1733218Deleted Bets/Threads………
Summer Cup – Lord Lariat
Charlie Chute – Mousey Brown
Welsh Champion – Norman Fletcher
Hills Chase – Gaelic Arc
Howdens x 2 – Knappers Hill
Masters – Prince ZaltarMasterson – Caballo De Guerra @ 25’s Laid 6’s (Small Profit)
Bet365 Hurdle – Mousey Brown 25’s EW 3rd @ 14’s
June 18, 2025 at 00:45 #1733541Nothing doing Day One from those two, but took some encouragement from Dawn Rising, and he should be winning a decent prize this year
Hi Royal my main hope in The Hunt Cup, but I have added Tokenomics, while hopeful of Jan Steen in The Windsor Castle
Happy to put up two for Hunt Cup, as wont be putting any up here for Thursday
Hunt Cup – Hi Royal EW7/33’s
Hunt Cup – Tokenomics 22’s
Windsor Castle – Jan Steen 33’s EW5PlsJune 20, 2025 at 16:52 #1734092Poor day Wednesday, and the drift on Jan Steen was brutal. Couldn’t lay off or I would have
As mentioned, no big fancies Thursday, and just the two today (didn’t get a chance to put up Big Mojo), but I quite liked Dancing Teapot for Sandringham, and though the early price was definitely a concern. I’ve given her a chance
Sandringham – Dancing Teapot 33’s EW7Pls/50’s
June 21, 2025 at 16:47 #1734368We Never Stop is the main one today, and I’m hopeful I can get a run for my money at the odds
Ended up with three in it, but We Never Stop certainly the main bet
Wokingham – We Never Stop 125’s EW6Pls/66’s EW 7Pls
June 29, 2025 at 12:51 #1735062Had an ok Royal Ascot, with the highlights being American Affair, and the 100’s EW on Flowerhead. Happy enough with the bits and bobs that I didn’t put up, but to balance that, the Saturday was abysmal for me
Decent day yesterday in “Big Races”, and just annoying that I didn’t get the chance to put them up on this thread. Good EW’s at 80’s, 40’s, and 25’s…………so very happy with the start to my season.
Decent racing yesterday, and same again today, certainly the best weekends racing in a good while.
After yesterday, I’ll no doubt crash and burn today, but got a few on the go with these being the main hopes
Festival Handicap – Love Billy Boy 15-2
Summer Cup – Digby 22’s EW4Pls
EBF Stayers – Arch Enemy 80’s EW6PlsJune 29, 2025 at 14:36 #1735069two good shouts VTC thought Digby was home for you
June 29, 2025 at 14:57 #1735074Thanks N, happy enough, but yeah, so close. Always tough for me at this time of year, so I’m not going to complain with them (though I want to lol)
Digby was agonizing, and second time this season it’s went that way for Billy. Check out his first run this year. He’s one to keep on side of, and I’d love to see him come for over for Cambridgeshire
June 29, 2025 at 15:04 #1735077will keep an eye out and have a look at the first run VTC
July 5, 2025 at 13:45 #1735537Really can’t argue with how it’s started, and Sunday was very good.
Love Billy Boy was free bet in running, and he’ll come again. The McLoughlin pair Mousey Brown and Digby both paid their way, and I was delighted with how the EBF Stayers went. Arch Enemy just out the money at 80’s, but Brazil at 100’s EW, made my day.
Season only two weeks old, so to have two EW’s at 100’s already, to go with the 80’s on Havana Pusey, as well as the Goldie pair at 25’s and 33’s, it’s encouraging
Hoping for continuation today, though this is tougher for Midnight Lion, but I’m hopeful of a good run at the odds
Always find this one of the weaker weekends of my season, and although it’s poor tomorrow, it’s a really good Saturday.
Cracking cards at Sandown, Carlisle and Bellewstown, and loads of old favourites on show, with………
Empirestateofmind
Hi Royal
Sir Busker
Yermanthereall out, so plenty to run the eye over
Old Newton Cup – Midnight Lion 50’s EW5Pls/EW4Pls
July 12, 2025 at 09:36 #1735963Midnight Lion way off it last week, but confident I’ll get a win from him before the season is out. Didn’t bet any of the other mentioned, missing out on 25’s EW on Sir Busker. On the upside, Empirestateofmind was poor, and he’ll maybe come off my list completely now.
Had a poor Friday, and although my Kilbeggan National bets were small ones, Riaan is another I can’t really justify following. That didn’t bother me, but the run of Lakers did. Didn’t bet him yesterday, but I was quietly confident about The Golden Mile, and had a top up on him for that. Hell no be going there now
Few bets today, and really hopeful about Big Mojo in particular
I’ll be topping up these today, so I’ll definitely change these odds at some point
Bunbury Cup – Billyjoh 25’s EW4Pls
John Smiths – Ancient Rome 33’s EW6Pls
John Smiths – Faylaq 33’s EW6Pls
July Cup – Big Mojo EW4Pls/50’s EWJuly 15, 2025 at 00:21 #1736216So close with Big Mojo, and he was by far the main hope, so as agonising as the second place was, a good payday from him, and I really thought he’d have went off single figures. The top up on the day was welcome too.
Good day rounded off by Billyjoh at 28’s
Bet a couple of regulars at Killarney. I was too busy celebrating that 100’s on Brazil, to pay as much attention to Arch Enemy, but was some run from her back in eighth, and the 33’s looked way too big.
Mogwli is one that I bet when bigger odds, and he’s a fair price.
Killarney
1845 – Mogwli 25’s
1945 – Arch Enemy 33’s
Both EW4PlsJuly 25, 2025 at 23:55 #1736735Very poor from Mogwli, but he’s one I’ll continue to bet. Just maybe not one for putting up. I’ll just keep at him every time he’s 20’s+. No issues with Arch Enemy, but I’ll maybe keep him to Curragh or Leopardstown
Didn’t go back in really on anything last weekend, and didn’t fancy anything majorly
Different story this weekend, and like a few
It’s been hard to leave Flowerhead alone in The Princess Margaret, after her run for me at 100’s in The Queen Mary, but I just preferred Midnight Tango. She’s a big bet up to 14’s, and as she continues to shorten, I’ll definitely layoff for a free race.
Skybet Dash is a headache. Caburn is the main fancy, but I’ll have to cover Jordan Electrics. Very tempted to cash him out for Stewards Cup, but I’ll let it run
Galeron is main fancy in The International at 33’s, but Billyjoh will be covered again, after he did me a good turn in The Bunbury Cup
Really like Mythical Guest in The Betfred Handicap, and thought the 25’s was mad. He’s main fancy of the day, along with Tango
Princess Margaret – Midnight Tango 14’s (Laid off, for Free Race)
Betfred Hcap – Mythical Guest 25’s EW6plsJuly 27, 2025 at 23:47 #1736979Happy enough with Midnight Tango, though it was key to get that lay in, as it was a fairly big bet
Mythical Guest wasn’t as big, but still big enough, and I was really disappointed with him. I thought he was booked for a place.
Big week ahead with Galway and Goodwood, so should be plenty of bets kicking. I usually bet every race at both, but we’ll see how it goes
I was impressed with Davy Crockett last time, and hope to see him improve again tomorrow in the opener. Completely unbackable though.
Main race tomorrow is The Connacht Hotel Handicap. I could’ve bet a dozen of them, and one of the best races of the week
Too Bossy For Us is the obvious one, but he’s maybe one I’ll bet later in season. Should go close
Very difficult for me leave a few of them, especially my old pal The Shunter, and hopefully I get plenty more chances to follow him again in the next few months
In the end, went with the slightly disappointing Fairbanks, my old and fairly exposed pal Falcon Eight, and the slightly underrated Dawn Rising
Connacht Hotel
Dawn Rising 28’s EW6Pls/3’ms
Fairbanks 40’s EW6Pls
Falcon Eight 25’s EW6PlsJuly 29, 2025 at 18:24 #1737115Really pleased with that run from Dawn Rising, as he was the main bet of the three, but not as big a betting race as it would have been with Brazil, so a modest return definitely
No big fancies today really, but few extra pounds on Bear Profit in The Colm Quinn
Colm Quinn BMW Mile – Bear Profit 16’s EW5Pls
July 30, 2025 at 13:13 #1737193So close, but delighted with that from Bear Prifit, thought he was getting there
Busier day today, and comfortable with three in The Plate
I’ve topped up Common Practice to 22’s, but could still beat that, and confident of a good run from him and Three Card Brag. Duffle Cost is harder to assess. The “fail to completes” can be ignored completely. This is a target horse, and he’ll he followed all season. Should pay his way at some point.
Oak Tree – Havana Pusey 66’s EW5Pls
Galway Plate – Common Practice 22’s
Galway Plate – Duffle Coat 33’s EW6/40’s
Galway Plate – Three Card Brag 25’s
Tote Handicap – Arch Enemy 25’s EW5PlsJuly 31, 2025 at 09:29 #1737285That was a poor day, and the only one I was happy enough with was Havana Pusey.
Arch Enemy turned into biggest bet of the day, and I had more on her than the three in The Plate combined, I was confident. Just poor, and with season only six weeks old, that’s three reverses already.
On to to today, and although Galway Hurdle never a happy hunting ground, I’m confident Winter Fog can make the six, while Sea Eagle is a big fancy earlier on the card
Rockshore Handicap – Sea Eagle 20’s EW5Pls
