Back for more, and as usual, my season will run from Royal Ascot to Punchestown.
Happy enough with how last season went, and some smashing days, but was pleased when it was over. Barely had a bet since Euchen Glen at Hamilton early May, and kept it to Ballinrobe, where I always like to back a few.
I’ll try to keep it to bigger prices as usual, and always be trying to claw stakes back when possible. Feel like I say this every year, but will be looking to avoid those days where I have too many selections. Easy enough at the start of my season, but the trick will be to stop having nine selections on some random Saturday in January
I’m not rocking up with as many Anteposts this year, and I’ll definitely be more careful with completely unnecessary Cheltenham Bets this season.
Not got too many on my mind long term for The Flat yet, but I do like Buttons from Ballydoyle, and really like her for The Pretty Polly at 33’s while I’ll probably follow Equality and Killybegs Warrior again this year, while at a slightly lower level, I think Wickywickywheels and Yermanthere could come in at good odds following recent stable switches
Over the jumps, no real plans to add anything long term right now, but I’ll be adding Midnight River again for Newbury if he comes back, while I’ll be backing Ontheropes for everything really.
Got some maybe unusual ones on the radar, like Thecompanysargent (Galway Plate), and Millers Bank (Old Roan)
Fell away just a little from the Sandy Thomson yard last year, but his recent recruit Ganapathi looks a textbook future winner for him at some point
Others high on shortlist this year, are……
Appreciate It
Classic Getaway
Jazz De Cotte
SupersundaeThat can all wait though, and great to see Royal Ascot finally arrive. Love it.
I genuinely fancy Hi Royal, and I’m very hopeful of a run for my money to kick things off. Took the 25’s for Midnight Strike Antepost, and can comfortably get 28’s tonight. I’ll top him up, but only so I can get six places
I’m hoping that Big Evs can have another big season, I’ll no forget that win here last year for a while, but I’ll cheer him on today without a bet.
Here we go then. Bright eyed and bushy tailed tonight, but come the end of Punchestown Saturday, it’ll be like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards.

June 18, 2024 at 12:53 #1698361Thanks Botchy, long road ahead, but up for it……………just now anyway
Good luck for your bets this week
June 19, 2024 at 01:33 #1698533Very underwhelming Day One, and Tritonic particularly disappointing. Doubt I’ll bet him again now, and hard to justify betting Hi Royal again, but I’ll know I’ll get drawn in again when he’s big odds. Zanndabad was ok, but Midnight Strike should win races, and I’ll stick with him, though not obviously one to rush into at this level
Quiet enough Wednesday, and already covered these in the race threads. Just happy to actually have a bet in The Hunt Cup this season, after no bet last year
Queen Mary – Flicka’s Girl 100’s EW
Hunt Cup – Holloway Boy 28’s
Hunt Cup – Ropey Guest EW8Pls/33’sJune 20, 2024 at 01:15 #1698816Flicka’s Girl was an early leftfield shout, and never really looked likely. Happier with the pair in The Hunt Cup. Holloway Boy definitely one that got away.
The Ascot Gold Cup is a race that rarely pulls me in, but taken a chance on Prydwen, while of my later pair, I find it easier to make a case for Tacarib Bay, but all in all, a very unlikely trio for Day Three.
Although only putting a few up, I’m still betting on every race, but these three maybe not advisable to put up, but as they’re on the race threads, why not?
I’ll hopefully get chance to take bigger
Gold Cup – Prydwen 66’s EW
Britannia – Bobsleigh 50’s EW
Buckingham Palace – Tacarib Bay 40’s EW 7PlsJune 21, 2024 at 17:38 #1699239Just the one today, and that’s Macduff
I’m betting every race Royal Ascot, but yesterday should only have been Tacarib Bay that I actually put up. Not concerned about the other two, just was no need to put them up. That was supposed to be one of my rules this year, and I broke it three days in.
Really like Macduff, and along with the disappointing Hi Royal, my only proper bet so far this week, so had more on to four places
Macduff 25’s EW 4Pls
June 22, 2024 at 09:24 #1699392Betting every race at Ascot again, but couple of them, even selections put up on race threads, have the feel of bets for the sake of a bet, and only one that I actually fancy today is Wickywickywheels at Ayr.
The ability is there, and hoping stable switch can see her find some consistency. Obviously slight split in stakes with a sentimental bet on Euchen Glen in there too. Sir Chauvelin a real worry too
1755 Ayr – WickywickyWheels 16’s EW4/30’s
June 22, 2024 at 09:29 #1699396“I broke it three days in.”
Three days is good Bob.. I usually break my be disciplined rule in about 3 minutes

June 22, 2024 at 09:38 #1699400Yeah Nath, quite proud of myself really lol
June 22, 2024 at 17:05 #1699619You have plenty of time to stick to all the conclusions after the homework you carried out after Cheltenham….:-)
June 24, 2024 at 12:04 #1699809Absolutely mate, just going to be very strict with selections. Think it’s the best way.
No issues with majority put up, just no need to put Prydwen or Bobsleigh up. Definitely bets put up for the sake of it.
Great to see old Euchen do it on Saturday, and very hopeful he’ll go to York with a realistic chance now
June 29, 2024 at 13:04 #1700275Few bets on the go today, but main interest is in a pair of outsiders.
Yermanthere should win for new yard this year, and can see a good run for my money from Island Brave
Northumberland Plate – Island Brave 66’s EW7Pls/80’s
Pertemps Handicap – Yermanthere 100’s EW 4PlsJuly 11, 2024 at 18:37 #1701506First bet for a while, as have t really been feeling it, and Monzoon was my last one, which I stupidly didn’t put up. He jumped out at at me last month at Leopardstown, and he really should’ve won last time too. Was going to swerve him tonight, but Bet365 are holding the 14’s, so a last minute buckle for me
2000 Leopardstown – Monzoon 14’s EW 6Pls
July 12, 2024 at 15:22 #1701605Very average, but I’ll persevere with him, probably in lesser races
One bet tonight, and as per race thread, I’ll be with Ontheropes
Kilbeggan Midlands National – Ontheropes
July 13, 2024 at 07:16 #1701686Quiet stroll round for Ontheropes, which means I’ll be continuing with him. Expect I’ll be betting him at Galway
Euchen Glen was put up as sentimental selection last time, and thankfully got it done. Problem is that I bet him at 10’s that day, before he won at 100-30. No such support this time, but if he’s ridden similarly, I think he can make the frame.
Rochelle the other main fancy today. She really caught my eye at Royal Ascot NON RUNNER
John Smiths – Euchen Glen EW7/40’s EW
July 20, 2024 at 09:33 #1702189Much more like it last week with Euchen Glen. New tactics are working, and in a competitive race like that, delighted to get the 50’s EW, to go with the 10’s a couple of weeks earlier. He’s just been some horse for me.
Busy day today, and few bets on the go, but main hope is The Big Lense in The Summer Plate. Hard to see him actually wining, but I can genuinely see him making the frame
Summer Plate – The Big Lense 28’s EW6/40’s
