in the 2.45 is Valery barzov any good or is to high in the weights now?
in the 1st Brave Prsopector is looking good although i do like Zidane wait and see them in the ring 1st….
if anyone has any helpfull ideas or things to do, please let me know?
June 27, 2008 at 12:04 #170341I found looking at them in the parade ring very helpful last year. don’t like anywhere where it’s too busy so this year i’m going tonight, ladies day?
was going to fly out today, but there is a good few going, so some could not make it anyway i left it to someone else to organize (Bad mistake) so tomorrow it is………
June 27, 2008 at 13:31 #170352Haugen also has Greco Tom in the 2:45, who won a group one somewhere in the world last time out (I obviously don’t have a clue where).
It was at the San Isidro track in Argentina (5f, firm) 364 days ago, when the Shy Tom 4yo was still in the care of Daniel Carlos Martinez. All of his previous known runs had been on the dirt at Palermo, again in Argentina, over 4f or 5f.
I don’t know how long it’s been since Rune Haugen acquired him, but after an upbringing in South America the rigours of a Scandinavian winter will have been a bit of a shock, never mind a changeable June day in Newcastle!
Here’s hoping at least one of Haugen’s raiding party can do a bit better than his most high-profile British raider to date, the Grand National failure Trinitro a few years ago.

June 27, 2008 at 14:01 #170354No mention of Double Banded here…
I thought he didnt have the best of trips at Chester and course didnt really suit. Form prior to that was on a nice upward curve and he does seem to travel well in races, which is quite important in this race ..i think
June 27, 2008 at 14:09 #170356I mentioned him Clivex. Check me out

Was surprised he was 12-1 as am pretty sure he was favorite (or not far off it) at chester, and was far from disgraced at a blistering pace over 2m2f.
Now 2 miles on stayers ground, at a gallop that will probably be more up his street. Those beaten in the chester cup are worth a second chance as another gallop like that is unlikely.
June 27, 2008 at 14:15 #170357Apologies Mr Bulwark…
I missed that. Agree with you. It is a biggish price. I am still weighing the race up but on the shortlist.
J Dunlop has always been pretty decent with stayers too

Tilt is going to be my E/W punt!!!
is there anything in paticular you watch for when going around the parade ring…
June 27, 2008 at 14:40 #170363On the ground forecast for the Chipchase Stakes Reverence 10/1 and Philario 16/1 would look to be good prices.
June 27, 2008 at 15:17 #170371Thanks Marble might do a bit of that tomorrow as there is a couple of races which seem hard enough to pick a winner from!!
Yeah Grandstand is the Prem enclosure any good?June 27, 2008 at 15:19 #170372Looks a very tricky race, to the point of being unsolvable and I won’t be having a bet. Regarding those comng here via the Chester Cup route, I think Highland Legacy should do best of those, I don’t think the ground or track would have suited him at Chester and think he can improve on the Ripon form here. Double Banded pulled too hard at Chester and I think there’s a chance he could end up a bit wide without cover tomorrow, although he’s a 2m winner, he’s essentially a speedy two-miler and I’m not sure the race will play to his strengths. Tilt was beaten fair and square in this race last year off 85, how can he win off 93. Yes he’ll run well, but I don;t think he’s got the stomach for a battle, something his strike rate would testify.
One eye-catcher to improve for the the step up in trip is John Hammond’s Far From Old. He has a similar profile to Minkowski who ran well to finish fourth in last year’s Ebor. Raced only around 10f/12f, there’s lots of French staying blood on the dam side of his pedigree and he’s also proven on a softish surface.
June 27, 2008 at 15:31 #170377B Ellison was saying that after Murtagh got of Tilt last time had race been over 2mile he felt he would have won, his horse are in good form at the moment as well i think so maybe this is his time to run a big race??
June 27, 2008 at 15:46 #170380I’m only saying it as it was said……"Wherever Tilt finishes Highland Legacy will beat him" "He was never at home at Chester and back to 2 miles on a galloping track he will take some beating".
Personally I wouldn’t have a clue so EW for fun for me.
June 27, 2008 at 20:59 #170413Far from old has been plotted up for this since last year. He is a group class stayer running off 97. He will be backed off the boards tomorrow. Anyone looking to get involved in the race must have him on their side.
June 27, 2008 at 22:23 #170422It’s a different race now with the ground gone soft.
My three against the field are Highland Legacy, Far From Old and Bollin Derek at 13/2, 12/1 and 40/1. I expect all 3 to shorten tomorrow and Arc Bleu, who likes decent ground, to drift.June 27, 2008 at 23:36 #170436I took the 12/1 on Far From Old at J.Corals this evening, that seems to me to be good "value". He’ll be shorter tomorrow. I’m sure they wouldn’t be sending him all the way to Newcastle to run over a new trip unless they were pretty confident he’d improve for it.
June 28, 2008 at 00:57 #170444Looks a nice bet, doesn’t it?
As stated, I’m sure it’ll shorten tomorrow leaving an option to take a profit or go for it all
June 28, 2008 at 10:13 #170479It’s not very original but Highland Legacy is the one for me. He looks progressive, acts on the ground, has a top jockey riding and the stable is in reasonable form. The track didn’t suit him last time out and the going was faster than ideal. Newcastle will suit him a lot more and he looks to have a good e/way chance at 6’s in my opinion.
