Well played Rob, nice winner that. As good a start to a season as I can remember for you.
November 18, 2017 at 21:46 #1327516Will be away in a weeks time and internet access might not be too good so any thoughts on the Borders National would be most welcome before we go away!

I will try to put up something on the Borders National, but I’m afraid my mum is ill in hospital down in Berkshire, so racing is likely to take a bit of a backseat for a while and I won’t be at the Kelso Borders National meeting myself.
It might be worth bearing in mind that HARRY THE VIKING is in good nick and it will take a decent one to unseat the current Borders National ‘Title Holder’!

November 19, 2017 at 23:14 #1327746Every now and again I try to be organised and keep all my notes in one book [it doesn’t last; I end up with bits of paper everywhere]. But, on the front page of one of the diaries it said ‘Harry the Viking’; long distance chases. I believe it was from way back when he was with PN. Sorry to hear about your mum…
November 20, 2017 at 00:02 #1327752Best wishes to her Rob.
November 21, 2017 at 21:22 #1327958Two runners tomorrow in the 12:55 at Hexham, a Class 4 Novices’ Handicap Chase. JUST MINDED looks likely to be favourite to make up for a fall at Carlisle on debut, whilst CELTIC FLAMES makes his chasing debut and I suspect may be a bit better over fences than hurdles.
November 23, 2017 at 00:29 #1328136Job done by CELTIC FLAMES who confirmed my impression that chasing is his game at 5/2. JUST MINDED looked to have a problem and the jury remains out.
November 23, 2017 at 21:49 #1328223TOTAL ASSETS goes in the 1.50 at Catterick tomorrow, a competitive handicap chase. I suspect she may well remain on an upward curve and i’d expect her to be thereabouts.
November 25, 2017 at 07:46 #1328452A fifth place for TOTAL ASSETS, but not beaten far and she is going well enough to suggest a drop in class will pay dividends.
November 25, 2017 at 18:31 #1328666BIG RIVER pulled up today at Haydock with a problem. Lucinda Russell tweeted the following:
‘Unfortuantely Big River has a fibrillating heart; he is safe and home in his stable, and will be seen by the vets at Edinburgh.’
I presume that’s the facility at Easter Bush. My company worked on the Operation and Maintenance Manuals for the newly built Equine Diagnostic Unit which looks to be superb development as a sort of ‘Intensive Care’ Unit for horses.
November 29, 2017 at 18:01 #1329401Having come second the other day, I wonder if Two Smokin Barrels will contest the Borders National? I seem to remember making a note of her a season or so ago as a stayer to follow. Seems to like Kelso, too. As with Red Devil Lads she’d slipped off my radar.
December 1, 2017 at 13:25 #1329645Confirmed I’ll miss the Borders National. Mum sadly passed away a week yesterday and funeral is on Friday 8th Dec, so I’ll be in Berkshire for the weekend. Just as I got back to Scotland last weekend we heard that my brother-in-law had suffered a heart attack so my wife was away down to Dorset to visit him. Thankfully his condition is being treated and we are cautiously optimistic.
From all of the above you can see that racing hasn’t exactly taken front seat for a while.
SIMONE ran into one in the mares novice at Musselburgh, but battled hard in going down by a half length. Better form than her Perth effort and she won’t run into many as good as Canny Style onthe northern mares circuit.
Tomorrow sees TESTIFY appear in a novice chase at Bangor (12.25). Distance would be short of his likely best.
Not on the list butt look out for Coole Hall (1.05) and Treshnish (2.45) at Newcastle to step up on their second places from last time, while at Newbury Mount Mews (2.25) bids to step up on a promising seasonal debut at Ayr.

December 1, 2017 at 13:31 #1329648Very very sorry to hear your sad news Rob, hope you and your family are doing as well as can be expected.
December 1, 2017 at 14:22 #1329663Thanks Bobby
My brothers are dealing with everything down there and doing a sterling job. Mum made the teas for Bradfield Cricket Club for many years, so after the funeral we thought it fitting to return to the BCC clubhouse for a ‘cricket tea’ in her memory. She was a football fanatic as well, and typically was still fretting about missing Reading FC games up until the day before she died.

December 2, 2017 at 00:57 #1329856You know I don’t venture on to twitter much Rob, but just seen the comment from one of your followers about your mum making the best teas, I hope the teas at her send off came up to scratch.
December 4, 2017 at 17:51 #1330369So sorry to hear about your mum, Rob. As I thought internet access here is a bit eratic and, to boot half of our power is off and the rest blows on a regular basis…
December 22, 2017 at 16:20 #1333486Getting back on an even keel after a turbulent few weeks.
One certainly not on an even keel was SOME REIGN who disgraced himself by refusing to race at Musselburgh this week. One black mark against a list which hasn’t done badly to date.
CELTIC FLAMES looks a sound bet in a small field at Newcastle tomorrow. Probably better than current mark over fences.
After a decent chasing debut TESTIFY turns out against 3 opponents at Haydock.
Rob
I’ll do a half term report on the list over the Christmas period.
