Anyone on here live there? I’m looking at buying a place and have been doing some research, does anyone on here have any idea of areas to look out for either good or bad?
December 29, 2010 at 23:28 #334232Hi there
Eastern District tends to be more social housing (Western Favell etc). Best places to look for a good victorian terrace is Far Cotton, Semilong and St James (near the Saints Rugby club). Expect to pay about £120-130K for a terrace 2/3 bedroom. If you want somewhere a bit trendy then lok at the Wekkingborough Road/Abington area. Shopping isn’t bad, and night life is good if you like bars and clubs. Sports in the town is good as there is football, rugby and cricket all on hand.
Villages are a bit pricy though – start at 2 miles out (brafield, the Houghtones, Ecton) Lots of good country pubs near to hand.We live in Rugby, work in Northampton, and until recently, lived in Far Cotton.
Moved to Warwickshire beacuse the secondary schools are excellent….December 30, 2010 at 10:50 #334256Northampton has a large, impressive market square and some fine ochre-coloured stone buildings amidst the usual post-war dross that blights most town centres. Found it a rather pleasant town to wander around
The impoverished locals wear Doc Marten’s and the well-to-do welted leather brogues. Trainers are forbidden

January 3, 2011 at 23:36 #334706It all depends on budget, but we moved there 4 years ago, and after initially being less than impressed, found that the western side, particularly the outskirt villages (Harpole, Duston, the Harlestones, the Bringtons) are very nice indeed. Basically the closer you head to Althorp Estate the nicer it gets, and head far enough and you will reach Holdenby, home of Caroline Bailey’s yard, due south of the village of Teeton from which Teeton Mill (formerly trained by Bailey) got his name!
Some of the new estates offer all things to all men, flats, town houses, up to 4/5 bed executive homes – one in particular that is very popular is the St Crispin Estate on the outskirts of the village of Duston.

Thanks for the input, we are looking at the west side of town mainly, Duston, Hunsbury etc, but the areas nearer to the station so I can make the commute. Our budget would run out before we could get as far as Harpole!
