Fatally injured in the 5:20 at Wetherby today
April 22, 2014 at 18:35 #476556Jockey kept pushing it and hitting it once or twic ebefore realising that something was amiss. And a few moments later the horse fell.
R.I.P. Norse of CorseAnother baby lost for no obvious reason.
April 23, 2014 at 06:38 #476599Poor horse was only 4 and it was his first run. Too, too sad.
April 23, 2014 at 17:26 #476640That makes me VERY sad …
why can’t young horses be given a gentle introduction? I can remember years ago a pointer aged 5 or 6 would usually just hack around for experience … as they were considered babies … but I guess people are betting on them and the rules say they have to be ridden to their best placing (or words to that effect).
RIP young man – such a shameApril 23, 2014 at 22:20 #476671Horrible to hear about this poor horse, wish something could be put in place to protect these young horses.
RIP poor boy
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 26, 2014 at 20:52 #477020I thought he pulled up – rather than fell – something wrong with hind leg?
April 27, 2014 at 10:29 #477037I believe he was pulled up and then fell a few moments later. He wasn’t in shot for long but there didn’t appear to be anything wrong with his legs. His tail seemed to be up and looked awkward so possible back/pelvic injury but my first thought was that he’d collapsed after being pulled up suffering a heart attack maybe? Does anyone know anymore?
RIP Norse Of Corse
April 28, 2014 at 15:12 #477147Hi Kauto, don’t know anything more at the moment, other than what you saw, but maybe the ‘tail up’ can give a clue. Mars had his tail stuck up like a flag during his recent ‘accident’.
April 28, 2014 at 17:06 #477157Yes – I have seen them do that with their tail just prior to collapsing …
April 28, 2014 at 18:46 #477169Yes, I always associate a raised tail with a collapse, which is why I was really concerned for the wellbeing of Walkon in the National, who had that tail carriage as he was pulled up sharply near the finish. Turns out though that he had slipped the tendon off his hock so will be out for a while but not as bad as I feared. Poor Norse, not a nice way to go and I’m surprised the jockey took quite so long to twig something wasn’t right.
