tbh I don’t care if he was the best horse in the race (which is debatable). Horse was starting to drift even before the jockey whipped the horse, can just about excuse that first stroke, but to continue three times in the wrong hand whilst the horse was still drifting is deliberately dangerous.

The sooner this idiot retires the better! :negative:

Hanagan was grinning in his interview saying he reckons he will get a holiday.

‘Win at any cost, a ban is ok.’

Interesting that Ruby picked up that Hanagan had actually let go of the right rein and the horse only straightened when he bothered to pick it up again

Should get a lengthy ban for careless / dangerous riding!

    Totally unfair
Golden Ticket to the Breeders..he won’t get away with that over there.
I was enjoying Ascot up to now.
Why on earth did none of the jockeys come forward to object.

“Why on earth did none of the jockeys come forward to object.”

Because they know there is no point. You can mow down the opposition in British Flat racing and still keep the race if you win by far enough.

If stewards don’t protect the health of jockeys then they will have to protect themselves.

    Yes, it is disgraceful.

Hanagan is clearly to blame for a very poor ride – but the BHA has to take a lot of blame for allowing rides like that one to be winners.

I also think it looked poor for SSR to broadcast a soft interview by Hayley Moore where Hanagan was allowed to talk sentimentally about how the winner was for his family, get all sentimental about his children and then smirk that he might get a holiday from the stewards.

Moore should have asked him if he would have been quite so pleased with himself if one of his colleagues ended up going to hospital in an ambulance.

At least Kevin Blake and Freddie Tylicki called it out as a bad ride. Tylicki knows about the consequences of reckless riding. Blake has written about the issue of dangerous riding going unpunished before. If only the BHA listened to him.

    10 days ban.
    Not enough!
Hanagan will be laughing and thinking why not do it again?

“…but the BHA has to take a lot of blame for allowing rides like that one to be winners….”

The BHA just issued a statement, which was read on ITV, that reiterated their position. Moreover, the BHA further stated that the rest of the world, including recently France, have adopted their rules with only two outliers; Canada and the US. I read this as their justification for this decision?..

10 days, but keeps the race; any winning jockey at a major festival will take that. And that is wrong. And the whole ‘but they were the best horse in the race’ is nonsense – if you break rules it should make no difference – you get thrown out.

I fear it will take something tragic for the BHA/ stewards to actually do something…….

Connections of the impeded horses denied prize money by being stopped

Crispy cat and brave nation could easily have finished second

They get punished but the horse/jockey causing said interference keeps the race

    Doesn’t make sense to me

    John Berry absolutely correct.

    Just heard the stewards chap.
Olli did a good job asking about why was it not dangerous, just didn’t get a proper answer.
