I’ve decided to rename him, the way he gets them jumping. He’s very talented with a nice mixture of confidence and humility. Big future awaits.

Was great to see Carruthers rolling the years back there. Highlight of the day. What a fortnight for the Bradstocks.

Wonderful result! So pleased for the Bradstocks and the Boingy chap on board. I love Carruthers :yahoo:

I'd like to live in a place where they cordon off swans...

I have rated him highly from day one. Reminds me of AP when he first started as a fresh-faced youngster. Very reliable. This jockey is going places, that’s for sure.

He’s fine in the Spring Joe, the proof of the pudding will be if he can do it in the winter months ;-)

Still, if he flies any higher than he is now, you’ll need to rename him again…this time to:-

    Nico de BOEINGville.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Could anyone link me to an in-depth interview with de Boinville? Or perhaps a biography? I can’t find many details about his background online.

de Boinville comes across very well and seems to have the right character attributes to go a long way in racing. It spoke volumes how Nicky Henderson trusted him with plenty of ‘live ones’ even as a 7lb claimer and continues to use him regularly now his claim has been ridden out. He doesn’t exactly have a textbook riding style, but that certainly isn’t a criticism given how well he gets horses to jump.

Interesting you should say that because a couple of weeks ago Jim McGrath said that when John Francome first saw him riding he remarked that he could never see him making a jockey.

All I can say is that Nico de Boinville has done me a few good turns in the last few seasons and if he is riding a horse that I half fancy then that is definitely a big plus and can be the deciding factor. In fact, I would say that he is one of very few jockeys I could almost follow blindly, without hesitation. If the horse he is riding is half decent, then the jockey is good enough for me.

Nicky Henderson ought to stop training horses and just train jockeys and other trainers!! :yahoo:

It’s been bothering me for ages that Nico reminds me of someone [other than my mate Brian who he’s a dead ringer for] but I’ve realised that it’s Jimmy Carr.

Not seeing that one, sorry Moe.

Wasn’t Nico great on Purple Harry today? The horse was bone idle and even reluctant at times, but de Boinville got inside the horse’s head and managed to get him home. He must feel full of confidence right now.

Probably need to see a pic of Nico-Brian-Jimmy to understand my reasoning.

There’s a revealing interview with Nico in today’s Post. He comes over as ‘nice’ but ruthlessly ambitious and very intelligent with strong control over his mental processes. He talks of keeping away the ‘dark side’, by staying busy. He has made a point of NOT watching the Gold Cup yet (I suspect he’s alone among winners in that since the advent of video recorders).

I’ll be very surprised if he is not champion jockey within 3 years.

Much as I’m a fan of Sam TD and his youthful enthusiasm and skill, I don’t think he’s tough or competitive enough to become champion. He’s always pleased when one of his mates wins a race he failed in, which a real competitor wouldn’t do, and is lacking in confidence and thick skin. Nico sounds like he does have the desired qualities. I wish him well.

Sprinter Sacre – What a horse!

Nicky Henderson – What a trainer!

Nico de Boinville – What a jock!!

    Absolutely fabulous!

Looked a bit hot headed on L’ami Serge today when diving into the lead and immediately and predictably hanging left only to fade and finish 3rd.Keeping the horse close to the rail for a later challenge would have been a better plan.

Getting some 1st rate opportunities but doesn’t look like a day in day out jockey to me and certainly not champion material on what I’ve seen so far.
