Can he train good novice chasers or not
Top Notch today beaten by horses rated inferior. Jumped well enough but?
Vaniteux last season never got to heights expected, Vyta Du Roc similar, L’ami serge and so on.
Not having a go at him but?
Thoughts pleaseOctober 28, 2016 at 23:20 #1269132Think you are being harsh. All depends on the animal. Hes trained the greatest 2miler of the generation in Sprinter. Simonsig was perfect in his novice season winning the arkle. Of the named horses VDR won the Sodexo grade 2 last season. Vaniteux won a grade 2. L’Ami serge isn’t top class but placed in the JLT.
ALtior and Buveur d’air should be two of his best prospects for novice chases. I would suspect Top notch is down his list of prospects.October 28, 2016 at 23:56 #1269138Droffats, I think Theinval will pick up a couple of nice pots this season. Last season was a bit of a write off, but I thought he looked back to his old self at Chepstow last time. He’s kind of slipped under the radar a bit, and although a Novice, I could see him making an impact in something like The Topham.
October 29, 2016 at 10:18 #1269234I too think maybe being a bit harsh but hey we all have opinions.
I think Altior is a machine and will win the Arkle this year and like Bobby I think Theinval will win a decent handicap this season.
He could have a terrific bunch of Novice Chasers this year if you go on what he had last year.
Keep an eye out for Hammersley Lake and O O Seven and Chocca Wocca. Maybe O O Seven could be his RSA horse but I am only guessing !!
October 29, 2016 at 10:28 #1269237Is My Tent or Yours chasing this season…?
Yes Raymo agree with OOSEVEN think he could turn into a real stayer, everything he done last year was good but he’ll be better this year or so Nicky said.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
October 29, 2016 at 15:21 #1269302I disagree with you about Vaniteux. Won the Lightning Novices chase and he would have been quite close to Douvan at Cheltenham without the fall.
October 30, 2016 at 13:16 #1269506He admits that some of his best horses are not as far forward as he would like them and that he intends to look after them.
That comment apparently applies to Altior who he is contemplating making his chasing debut with at Cheltenham.
I agree with earlier posters that he is a really exciting prospect.October 30, 2016 at 20:40 #1269586He seems to be blaming the ground for his string not being as forward as he would like. However it would seem that everyone else does not have a problem.
IMO he always seems to have excuses.
He must surely have all weather gallops and a watering system or is being left behind?
I would like to see Altior at Cheltenham in November so I hope he gets there but I imagine he won’t be.
Oh well Nicky knows best.October 30, 2016 at 20:53 #1269588It’s a fallacy that Simonsig was a good jumper of fences and the press helped perpetrate it. Like Long Run (when that horse got tired), he could not bend his back properly, making him inefficient and chancy. Vaniteux never impressed either with his fencing.
I can only imagine Altior is an absolute natural because he’d have had a real Champion Hurdle chance had he been kept to that sphere.
October 30, 2016 at 20:57 #1269589Nicky henderson is the greatest trainer of all time, what he did with SS will live forever in the memory of all that were at Cheltenham last March, the fact he takes his time and tells the public the truth should not be seen
As a weakness, his novices will come good alitor will win the arkle in a canter.October 31, 2016 at 10:29 #1269687Altior , OO7 and watch our for Different Gravey, he’s my novice to follow this season.
