Tidal Bay won’t see which way Big Buck’s goes regardless of Nicholls’s form, CS.

I’m banking on Denman paying for our new sash windows

I hope they are the uPVC design and not the modern version of the old Single glazed wooden frames with cast iron weights! :)

His only previous form was last of three, how good is that?

You have been misled by a fault in the way the Racing Post presents French form. His form summary says 3rd of 3 for his only run over jumps, but click on the race and you will see that there were 13 runners.

Reet Hard….I wouldn’t get too carried away with the form, Cappa Bleu is a decent Hunter Chaser, no more, no less, he beat a below average field in the 2009 Foxhunters, he’s not the "Second Coming" that the early hype would have us believe. No more than Long Run is this year

If An Siorrac had turned up at Cheltenham last year he’d have won The Foxhunters by 25 or 30 lengths

    CS
The Official Handicapper rated one, Philip Hobbs the other – I bow to your greater wisdom.

    450 Exeter –

Bump In The Night 8-1, well beaten 2nd plugging on one pace.

Livinonedge 4-1, pulled up with a mile left to run

Just wondering if Nicholls will be as succesful at the festival this year as he was last? 5 winners last year, with Chapoturgen and American Trilogy being the somewhat surprises. He also had alot of placed horses narrowly losing, ie Celestial Halo, Pride of Dulcote.

You would expect Kauto/Denman/MM/Twist Magic/Big Bucks/Poquelin to be close in their respective races, however, could Alan King, Nicky Henderson, Nigel Twiston-Davies and Willie Mullins have just as strong chances going into Cheltenham.

Don’t know the odds on Nicholls having most winners but I imagine he is a odds on fav. Could be worth taking on?

The only Festival race I’d want to put my house on him winning is The Gold Cup, if anything went wrong with Denman, Kauto Star is a very decent back up.

Surely he has two very good chances in the Champion chase?

    Wincanton 150 – Far From Blonde 8-1, remote 3rd
    Wincanton 220 – Pennellis, 33-1, weakened well before 3rd last n fell
    Wincanton 250 – Recif De Thaix 7-2, remote 3rd

As results to back up an argument go, MRW, they’re pretty poor. Far From Blonde was only 8/1 because she’s trained by Paul Nicholls and had a 1/4 favourite in opposition, Pennellis’s price tells you everything you need to know there and Recif De Thaix’s handicap mark of 142 is laughable.

If I hear its only "so n so" because its trained by Nicholls one more time, I will quit this forum.

His result will pick up, this past week he has sent a moderate bunch out, they’re not all superstars, if his strike rate is still 9% by the end of this month I’ll eat my foot.

As MG says 2 of those today had pretty much no chance, what are you expecting MRW, a Big Bucks to be coming out every day of the week??

I dont expect Tataniano and Pistol Noir to get gubbed by 100-1 and 18-1 outsiders amongest other strong stable horses, the list of losers isnt a moderate bunch even you can agree with that surely?

We’re never going to agree on this MRW, we clearly have very different ways of looking at the game. I can see your arguement on Tataniano and Pistolet Noir to an extent, but me I never expect any result as a given in this, I believe we had a lively discussion before about Tataniano and I was far from complimentary, I’m not surprised to see him shown up in a moderate race personally and Pistolet Noir lost that race all by himself, it was only his 3rd run and he ran like it was his first, that’s just racing, it happens.

    2/13 10L, Bump In The Night[8/1]11-1
    PU/13 Livinonedge[4/1]11-4
    1/12 ¾L, Rock On Ruby[6/4F]11-4
    2/9 3¾L, Oracle Des Mottes[13/2]11-7t
    3/13 33L, Valentine Vic[7/4F]11-5
    4/12 9L, Watergate[11/4]10-7
    5/12 11L, Toubab[4/6F]10-7
    11/15 53L, Oamaru Stone[9/2]11-3
    5/16 11½L, Takeroc[11/1]11-12
    9/13 74L, Tatenen[25/1]11-0
    3/7 16L, Royal Charm[5/4F]11-12

Since Taranis won, after 2 years off the track… I don’t see any superstars in there personally. (list missing the 33/1 8/1 and 7/2 outsider of 3 today)

Nicholls/Bromley have made their money on these horses before they run. The only loser when they run poor races is the owner.

You’re right Mr W – we’re only 4 days in – far too early to start comparing those sort of figures.
