Once again must take my hat off to Paul Nicholls. He seems to place his horses so well; Greneteen is well below the standard of CPS , Shishkin and Energumene, yet wins two of the big prizes of the year

In some ways his more recent achievements do a better job of confirming what a great trainer he is than when he was riding high in the Kauto Star and Denman era.

April 24, 2022 at 10:44 #1595477Part of me wishes Nicholls trained Shiskin ….we,d see him more that’s for sure , he also excels at bringing through his staff , no doubt Dernham will make a decent job now he,s going out on his own , has Nicholls said who’s he new assistant will be
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
April 24, 2022 at 11:49 #1595485Put your horses in the races where they have the best chance of winning; it sounds simple, but Nicholls is a master of doing it. For example, Greaneteen has now two Gd1 wins this season, Clan Des Obeaux won the Gd1 at Aintree, and Frodon won the Gd1 at Down Royal in early November….
You can’t win prize money in the stable…..race them, that’s what they’re bred for.

Could you imagine if he did so and he withdrew Shishkin from the Champion Chase, à la Bravemansgame?
April 24, 2022 at 13:37 #1595495Yes, Nicholls is very shrewd and together with Hendo light years ahead of the rest.
I was bored by yesterday’s meeting to be quite frank. No one else was able to compete with Nicholls, the horses Skelton keeps fresh are crap and the main race went to Ireland again.
Simon Holt was even worse than Jerry Hannon and I don’t care a bit about Richard Rowe winning the Josh Gifford Novices’ Chase and Saint Calvados is nothing to get excited about winning for the first time in almost three years.
Glad, I think Shishkin would have been a non-runner and aimed at Punchestown instead.
