I support Aberdeen, but fail to see the relevance of whom I support. Aberdeens youth team will be just as bad as Celtic’s. I’m not taking a pop at your beloved, I am merely saying that until our kids are taught how to pass, control, move, make space, use both feet, play with there heads not there brawn, etc, etc then our game will always be screwed.
Newspapers are the worst. They always do after match ratings on each player and the quotes you hear are ridiculous. "Scott Brown – 7 – Got stuck in and battled away". "Ricky Foster (Aberdeen player) – 6 – Good pace, battled hard". The fact that neither of these 2 players can be trusted to pass from A to B 90+% of the time doesn’t even get a mention. Effort and battling qualities should be a given, Its the ability to pass, dribble, make space that should be getting rated.
I notice you are taking a pop at the rangers players Graeme – and you are correct on this one. Although lets not pretend this is a rangers only issue. All clubs (celtic and aberdeen included) would rather there players did not play international football.

They also all knew how to play football. And thats what sets them apart from the 100’s of other players who knew how to "look after themselves".
November 21, 2009 at 12:48 #259764No big deal Doughino. I was just wondering why you would use Celtics u15s as an example when you don’t support them. If i’m being honest, i hardly ever see Aberdeen, let alone their youth players. You’re obviously a keen enthusiast at all levels.
I wasn’t really looking to take a pop at Rangers. I just don’t think it’s a coincedence that their players seem more committed when it’s an ex Rangers manager running the national side.
I’m losing interest in international football anyway. To me its fast becoming an inconvenience for club football. Top countries are full of players who were born in different countries than who they play for, politicians are getting more and more involved because of the effect of big tournaments on their economies, and UEFA brought in a corrupt play off policy to suit their agenda.
November 21, 2009 at 19:42 #259841Soory Graeme, I should have contexted my Celtic under 15’s comment. my brother is a referee and I went and watched him ref a game – one of the teams involved was the celtic under 15’s.
Agree that international football isn’t that important in my life. I never attend these games myself – see it as a waste of £50+ when you consider travel and ticket for a match.
December 21, 2009 at 18:49 #264816Craig Levein – done and dusted !
Don’t say the shrewdies didn’t tell you.

Not announced until later in the week but if there’s any odds around about him becoming Scotland’s next manager, scrape them up.
Money for old rope.

December 22, 2009 at 09:55 #264896I have it on excellent authority (from Mrs Grass) that Levein is a hard-core chugger of the highest order, and I therefore wish him as much success as Berti Vogts had.
PS. TAPK….Jim Leighton wasn’t fit to lace Andy Goram’s boots (though he was fit to boot Andy Goram’s lace panties).

PPS. I was offered the job, Pompete, but turned it down because it wasn’t paying enough.
December 22, 2009 at 10:42 #264900Seems to me Grassy you have to come to Cardiff City to find all the football playing Jocks. That ex Rangers player Burke is sharp.

As if the Manager makes any difference to Scotlands ability as a football team! Willie Ormond might as well do the job!
Agreed! Willie Ormond was one of the better managers and a lot of fans loved the guy even if he was a bit soft on the lads. But that was when Scotland had real football players who could scare the life out of any team in the world. As Freddy Mercury would have said "Those were the days of out lives"
They asked Rod Stewart and Billy Connelly to take it but the reclined saying Celetic don’t have enough Scottish players on their books to make the team up

What exactly happened to big Alex McCleish? was he pushed or did he go?

Grass, you know damn well i could throw half a dozen more names in the hat for Scotlands best keeper! And still pull out a carrot! Archie Mcpherson!
January 14, 2010 at 12:44 #269816Sounds like Craig Levein has thrown Ferguson and McGregor an international career lifeline…
January 14, 2010 at 14:07 #269841I’m glad Celtic don’t sign many Scottish players just now. The thought of our players going out there to help a football association that let Bougherra off the hook so he could play in the last game of the season season doesn’t appeal to me. Levein is right to take those players back, but my interest in the national team just isn’t there at the moment. I’m not a fan or Gordon Smith, or the referees that denied Celtic 2 penalties at Ibrox, a perfectly legitimate goal in the last OF, and failed to show that lanky clown Lafferty a red card. Enough is enough, i can’t bring myself to support Gordon Smith, Kris Boyd or Alan Hutton. It’s just a step too far for me these days. I hope tony mowbray sticks to signing foreign players and lets the national team get on with it. Infact i sometimes think some of our younger players would be better playing for Ireland if they get the chance. However i do like Craig Levein and wish him all the best.
January 14, 2010 at 15:55 #269866Goldikova it seems you have a grudge against Rangers players, past and present, that goal that was chopped off in the latest old firm game was correct, the keeper was fouled, Oh and Craig Levein is overrated and won’t be up to the job, what has he ever achieved in the game?
Tony Mowbray was also Celtic’s 4th choice manager, he won’t last long.
Chelsea for the league
January 14, 2010 at 16:14 #269872I think Levein is great value at 7/2
