The following news today about Steve Bruce does not sound too promising —
Bruce verbally agreed a contract extension at St Andrews after leading the club back into the Premier League in May. But talk filtering back from prospective new owner Carson Yeung suggests that deal may no longer remain on the table leaving Bruce’s future in serious doubt.
“I have to say it doesn’t look very good at the moment,” explained Bruce after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Blackburn. I found out off Mr Sullivan on Friday night that the vibes coming back from the Chinese consortium were negative. I know where I stand, that’s for sure.
“I’ve 20 months to run, so I’ll just get on with it and see when the new people do eventually take over exactly what plans they’ve got.
“But I don’t think at the moment there’s any talk of a further contract. There’s effectively a block. There we go, I’ll accept that.”Bruce was one of my original choices at the start of the season. The value seems to have disappeared now with Lee and I still think that Jol will be safe so my money ( not a large amount ) has been placed on Bruce at 9/1 but knowing how this season is going I half expect Rafa Benitez to be the next one to go..
October 17, 2007 at 12:35 #120036And the winner is…….Sammy Lee (left by mutual consent today) isn’t that football talk for him being terrible so they sacked him!!

Yes, that’s right…….just wished they had decided on this mutual agreement a few weeks ago
October 17, 2007 at 13:02 #120043The minute Gary Speed left, I think the writing was on the wall for little Sam.
No harm to him, but I don’t think he was ever cut out for the role as manager.

October 17, 2007 at 13:08 #120044I think it was a certainty that he wouldn’t last the season, i’m just gutted (from a selfish point of view) that he didn’t get the boot earlier.
Last week he was talking about being a winner and wanting to get Bolton out of the trouble they are in – this week he decides to leave
. I think the words Bolton are looking for are HIM SACKED WE (arrange in appropriate order).I flagged him up on a Betfair article just 10 days ago that he was still a decent bet at 3.5 to be the next manager to go, I only wish I backed up my thoughts with cash.
Wonder who’s going to be next? Rafa Benitez at decent odds perhaps if he continutes to pee everyone off with his rotation policy.

October 18, 2007 at 11:30 #120246Perhaps he should apply for the England job now he is available being a young ambitious English coach!!

McClaren surely must have his own market – "when" he leaves not "if " after last night….

I (as a Man City fan) fear that Sven may have to flee town if he can’t keep his pants up. Hope not though, he’s got a great team on and off the field around him.
October 23, 2007 at 12:35 #121029The Martin Jol saga continues another defeat (now only one win in ten), drops Berbatov who rumour would have it sulked because he was on the bench and refused to warm up before eventually going on as a late sub.
October 23, 2007 at 16:38 #121070I rate Jol and despite Spurs’ lowly position, think they’d be worse off without him.
Can’t understand though why he paid so much for Darren Bent who seemed to have lost his eye for goal well before Jol splashed out on him.
Without Ledley King their defence is third rate and why oh why doesn’t he make more use of Defoe?.October 26, 2007 at 10:48 #1214513 down, 17 to go

Rafa Benitez next? Steve Bruce perhaps? Or what about Mark Hughes to Spurs?
I have to say, with Martin Jol knowing that he had been sacked, I thought he showed tremendous character by being in charge for the game last night.
How many of us, if told that we had been sacked, would agree to doing an extra few hours just to help the management out of a hole? Mind you, they say a compensation package had been agreed prior to the game and I dare say, Jol’s multi million pound pay off would have been dependent on being in charge against Getafe.
One very unpleasant scene though. Did anyone see the Spurs chairman smile when Getafe scored their 2nd goal. It was smug, and had "that’s justified my decision to sack him" all over it.
Mike
October 26, 2007 at 13:01 #121490Yes Mike I also saw the smug smile and considered it unpleasant. I think that it was also at that time that one of the other board members started talking to somebody on his mobile. The Spurs chairman does look a bit of a shifty dodgy individual….I wonder how he has made his money?
The way the Spurs board have treated Jol is disgusting and the timing of last night’s sacking was awful. Jol is a decent human being who deserves better treatment. Some of the Spurs players should also hang their heads in shame – Dawson has played awful, Jenas has not tried hard enough and Berbatov may be a skillful player but his nonchalant attitude is bad. If all the players had tried as hard as Keane then they might not have got in such a mess.
Jol was a bit unlucky as if King had been fit and Robinson had played to his normal standard then Spurs may have had a better start. Bent was not the great signing that a lot of people said he would be. A bit of panic seemed to set in after the bad start which made things get worse.
However managers survive and fall by the performances of the team and Spurs did not perform well enough and looked poor in the last 2 games. I can understand why he was sacked but it was the underhand backstabbing way that he was treated that has put me off supporting Spurs whilst the present board is in charge.
November 5, 2007 at 10:48 #123026Chris Hutchings gone now

With so many teams performing poorly, I wouldn’t think we have seen the last of the sackings before Christmas.
Gareth Southgate next perhaps? It’s absolutely terrible at the Riverside. I was there at the weekend and I’ve never know the atmosphere to be so down and I’ve never seen the team play so flat and without desire.
Mike
November 5, 2007 at 14:26 #123045Southgate could be the next one to go. I see M’boro are away to Bolton next saturday so a loss there could put his job in jeopardy.
One thing I have noticed over the years is that a team does not often lose their first game under new management – I don’t know if there are any stats on this anywhere but it can often pay to lay a team not to lose their first game under new management.
I see Wigan’s next game is away to Tottenham but I doubt if a new permanent manager will have been found by then.
November 26, 2007 at 10:42 #127130Billy Davies – sacked!
Who next? Rafa Benitez?

November 26, 2007 at 11:09 #127136It’s madness lol.
Derby, Wigan, Bolton, Spurs, Bolton, Birmingham, Chelsea have now all had managerial changes since the season began – 13 games ago

Rafa is on borrowed time, falling out with the owners is a sure way to get the sack, while Southgate is pathetic – I only wish Gibson wasn’t as loyal as he is.
I dare say that by the end of the season, we could have had at least 10 managers lose their jobs in the Premiership.

It is indeed madness.
Allardyce, Southgate and Benitez are at least 50-50 to be dumped in the next few weeks and the further complications of the vacant England job and Brum takeover (??) could lead to further changes. Then there’s the unknown situations that we don’t even know about yet…I just wish that some Chairmen and fans would have a bit more patience. Few teams have shown a significant improvement as a result of a change of Manager. My own team (the mighty Man.City) being an exception
November 27, 2007 at 15:00 #127420Will Big ‘Eck become Birmingham’s new manager tomorrow ? I wouldn’t back against it.
