Thanks for an interesting write-up, and good luck with your new fella.
I’m always interested in seeing whats in the SMP draft, and what the big priced lots are.
October 30, 2009 at 21:39 #256297I see Readymade has gone to Christian von der Recke for 16,000, he seems to get a win or two out of these odd ones, and I’m not sure if he has a satellite operation over here now, someone may put me right on that, but he has at least shown some promise in decent maidens so I shall be keeping my eye on that one.
I was with Christian at Baden-Baden last Friday, and he mentioned he was coming over for the sales. He actually took a couple of horses over himself to sell, but the horses he bought are now for sale to stay in his yard. I’ll be advertising them on my website once I get details back from him, but he’s a bit of a busy bee at the moment – he’s been in Saint Cloud today saddling a winner, then he’s off to Milan tomorrow for the Italian St Leger, then it’s Hannover on Sunday! You could say he’s a bit tricky to get hold of! As for a satellite operation, not really. There are a couple of trainers that he’s dealt with in the past, but he’s just got a really good eye for a bargain and always does well at the sales. The German flat season is coming to a close now, but there’s an all weather season beginning on November 15th at Neuss, and together with Dortmund, these courses are the two used in the winte. Christian always has plenty of runners at these courses, so it could be that Readymade could run on the sand in the next few weeks.

when next you look in, perhaps you could tell me what Neuss and Dortmund are like, do they get much patronage? are they thriving? Just wondered, people moan a lot about all weather over here but I think it gives the very small owner of a moderate animal something to look forward to

Well, Neuss staged racing for the first time in 18 months last Sunday. I’ve done a review on my website, but despite spending 7.5 million euros re-developing the place, the actual racing surface looked terrible! Due to a downpour, the course really looked in quite a state. As for Dortmund, I was there last year during a snowstorm and temperatures of minus 7 degrees! By the last race, in which one of our horses was running, there were about 100 people left at the course!
Readymade makes his debut for Christian tomorrow at Le Croise Laroche in northern France. It’s an 18,000 Euros race for apprentice jockeys, and although he has been slightly temperamental at first, I think Christian is quite pleased with him, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

http://www.anglogermanracing.comNovember 18, 2009 at 19:31 #259342hi Darren,
thanks for getting back. Hope all goes well at Neuss – or should I say Rennbahn Park… given the problems there, and free entry too. I wonder how they make any money.
I love your website, I think it’s one of the nicest I’ve come across in this field, and just think it’s terrific and I’m saving it to my Favourites, Darren.
The write ups are really informative I think and some great photos to go with it. That shot of them jumping the wall at Mannheim in particular…an attractive setting too. More photos please!
I hope Mr Dettori didn’t charge you for that one..lol..
mind you he does look rather nice in it.Good idea to put info about the top trainers and jockeys too, as we generally know so little about them.
Thanks for telling me about Readymade in France Thursday – I’d like to see how he gets on, pity it’s not on the t.v.
I’ve also signed your Guestbook

cheers
November 19, 2009 at 09:22 #259415Terrific site, Darren – likely to provide the answers to many of my queries about German racing for many weeks and months hence! Great stuff.

November 19, 2009 at 10:00 #259419Worth a look at the website for the French track that Readymade is running at today.
Mostly a trotting venue, this meeting is a floodlit affair on the inner turf track starting at 4:30. Admission is free if I read it correctly.
From the website, I especially liked the parts where the French language hasn’t stretched to direct translations, such as ‘Le paddock’, ‘Les Boxes’ and ‘quelque crack-jockeys’.

November 19, 2009 at 11:08 #259426lol!..tres amusante…and thanks for the link.
A fine looking course and if anyone can tell me of a restaurant at a UK track that looks as nice as that one, I’d like to know of it. Superb menu as you would expect.
I think it says entry 5 euro’s Alan, however 3 euro’s for ‘dames’

…isn’t life a bitch?
November 19, 2009 at 12:30 #259432UM,
I was going on this from the home page, which I assume is a winter special offer.
# *Novembre : Entrée Gratuite pour les courses PMU de Galop
But even at 5 euros, the whole thing is an eye opener for those more accustomed to the UK sandpits.
This provincial French track is offering 8 races with a minimum prize fund of 16,000 Euros (£12,500 at worst), compared to 7 races at Kempton for three times the admission charge and only one race worth more than about 6,000 Euros.

November 19, 2009 at 12:51 #259437..oh, so it does Alan, my apologies. Serve me right for trying to put you..right
All these free entries popping up all over the place, but scant few here.Mind you, I’m off to Peterborough dogs soon, and that’s free too, plus a hot meal for 1p.
most welcome in this depression

edit:-
I see Readymade only finished 5th today. Looks like you saved your money AP

I bow down in amazement!!!

http://www.anglogermanracing.comNovember 19, 2009 at 20:02 #259488…I realise this forum has some peculiar attributes of late Darren, but clairvoyancy isn’t one of them, unfortunately.
We are able to edit our own posts here, so that was added later.
As a website whizz-kidder I’d have thought you might have known that

November 19, 2009 at 20:32 #259498Ah – the joy of edit!!!
Actually, it’s not been a great day for Christian – his other horse at the meeting has finished seventh, and I know he was hoping that both horses would be at least placed. I was hoping to get some news as to what happened to Readymade but he’s not returned my messages, he’s obviously quite disappointed.
Never mind – Onwards and Upwards to Dortmund on Saturday!

http://www.anglogermanracing.comNovember 19, 2009 at 20:38 #259499No it’s not been a great day for him as I notice Fiepes Shuffle has been moved to Mario Hofer’s yard from Christians due to a disagreement with the owner. That’s a shame, I wonder what this was all about, not that I’m asking you to tell us of course

I liked old Fiepes. I do hope we see him again over here.

There’s two answers to the question, depending who you speak to:
1. Betting revenue and corporate hospitality.
2. They don’t – they’re basically bankrupt!I love your website, I think it’s one of the nicest I’ve come across in this field, and just think it’s terrific and I’m saving it to my Favourites, Darren.
The write ups are really informative I think and some great photos to go with it. That shot of them jumping the wall at Mannheim in particular…an attractive setting too. More photos please! Thanks for the lovely comments! There really wasn’t a website with the same kind of info in English,so that’s why it came about. I’ve actually got loads of photos from the racing season in Germany – I’ve been speaking to the web designer only yesterday, and we’ll be doing a couple of to the site and introducing a photo gallery. As for Mannheim, it’s a great little course. A figure of 8 chase course with various obstacles on the inside of a 6 furlong round oval! It’s a sort of cross between Pardubice, Fontwell and Walthamstow!
I hope Mr Dettori didn’t charge you for that one..lol..
mind you he does look rather nice in it.That photo actually appeared in a German racing magazine! Basically, Frankie was wearing the famous Schlenderhan silks in last years German Derby, so it was a good one to get. Unfortunately, he didn’t look so happy after the race – his horse Walzertraum (well fancied actually) was nearer last than first.
Good idea to put info about the top trainers and jockeys too, as we generally know so little about them.
I just decided to choose the top four or five. Good job I put Andreas Woehler in actually – he could well be champion trainer for the first time in his career this year.

Yes, Christian told me about this a few weeks back, but I was actually too upset (and still am actually) to talk about it much – it’s no secret what I thought of Flipper, and you only have to mention ‘Desert Orchid Chase Kempton’ to see my eyes well up! I know pretty mcuh what happened regarding the Hofer switch (basically, Mr. Zimmermann (owner of Flipper) has removed ALL of his horses with Christian and sent them to Mario), but at the end of the day, Mr. Zimmermann owns the horse, he’s a decent bloke, and it’s his hard earned money we’re talking about, and we have to respect his decision, whether we agree with it or not.

http://www.anglogermanracing.comNovember 19, 2009 at 21:29 #259510….well I expect he’ll recover from the loss and move on but it must have been quite a blow.
By the way, thanks for your replies and answering all my questions.
I love quirky tracks like Mannheim. Would really like to see some more photos of the place at some point, if you ever get the time or inclination, even if it’s next year or something.
enjoy Dortmund on Saturday – rather you than me, I think.
