Dear Racing Forum,
As you may have seen from recent press coverage, one of the deliverables from the Racing for Change initiative expected this year is the creation of a new website for the racing industry.
I just thought I would get your feedback and ask what you, the racing afficionados, would like to see on a racing website? Are there any useful tools/information/systems etc etc that you would find useful and like to have access to on a new site?
Let us know and we will feed back all suggestions and see what can be done to create a great site for you.
Cheers
Rob
January 11, 2010 at 13:01 #269265Rob – when you say the website is for the racing ‘industry’, does that mean it is a service based site rather than a marketing type one.
January 11, 2010 at 13:20 #269273Up to date going reports, stall positions, non runners and jockey changes would be useful
January 11, 2010 at 13:53 #269280Cormack– good question, my apologies I should have clarified that.
It is going to be a marketing/information site, aimed at racing fans/punters as well as potential ‘new’ racing fans.
As such it will contain lots of promotional material showcasing what a great day out racing is etc for the newcomer, but at the same time we want to make the site essential for the current devoted racing fan, by giving them access to tools and information which could help their punting or enjoyment of the sport.
Bluechariot– thanks, noted. That’s exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for.
Cheers

January 11, 2010 at 14:13 #269284happy– thanks so much for those comments, really useful. It’s great to know that we are on the same page as well because the idea about articles about horses/jocks/trainers and ‘getting to know them’ is something we are certainly looking into and will be featuring on the site.
As for the levy explanation- this is really interesting that you think that this is something folk would find useful. It is probably not the sort of content we would be featuring too heavily on the new site as it is quite heavy stuff, but perhaps we should be looking at including something about this on http://www.britishhorseracing.com
Many thanks again!
January 11, 2010 at 14:19 #269287Forget the decimalisation nonsense though! You have more chance of attracting the over 25"s than the under.so keep it real, top a the head 2/1!

Bottle 2/1!!
January 11, 2010 at 14:24 #269290A Live Information box where info such as overweights, jockey changes, claims, auction prices can be made available asap.
It’s unacceptable that we have to rely on third-party organisations at present for such basic info.
January 11, 2010 at 14:31 #269292davidjohnson– thanks for that, really good to know that there would be an interest in tools such as that.
Logistically it could be quite difficult as would require content to come from every meeting every day…but sure not one that can’t be overcome.
Great idea, noted.
January 11, 2010 at 16:52 #269306Id like to see a section that goes more indepth into some of the talking points, explaining the process etc.
For example –
Access to pictures of photo-finishes.
Details of stewards enquiries
A section showing handicappers actions. To back up something raised earlier, i also thing clear and concise guidance on the placement of stalls would be a huge benefit.
January 11, 2010 at 17:16 #269307A comprehensive list of the new adjusted Official Ratings showing +/- the old mark immediately they are available, together with the date they become applicable and the date of the next adjustment.
Can you ensure you let us know the website address when it goes ‘beta’ or whatever
Thanks
January 11, 2010 at 17:18 #269308bagnallc– that’s an excellent suggestion for the handicappers actions, I’m sure that’s quite feasible that we could do that, brilliant stuff, cheers!
In terms of the photofinishes, we area already trying to get this set up. On http://www.britishhorseracing.com/gorac … ofinishes/ we are currently providing weekly photofinish images from courses covered by Arena. We are working on also getting Racetech courses up there.
Also for the Stewards Enquiries see http://www.britishhorseracing.com/resou … iries.asp- we are already putting these details up.
Thanks so much for the suggestions, very much appreciated and very useful!

January 11, 2010 at 17:19 #269309Drone– bagnallc has just suggested a similar thing for the official ratings changes, and I think it’s a great idea.
Consider it proposed!
Cheers

January 11, 2010 at 17:21 #269310The current site is pretty good – if you can navigate around it easily.
I think the problem with the current site is a lot of the information is already there but is very difficult to track down.

Only better.
January 11, 2010 at 18:30 #269317I have access to the BHA/Weatherbys site and there are lots of great things on it which the public should have access to. I understand that it is password protected as parts of the site are pay-per-view but parts of the site such as race dates, conditions, jockey bookings etc are very useful and presumably readily available to you already.
I agree with most of what has already been posted on this thread. Good idea to look at what Hong Kong, France Galop, HRI are doing as well. Just a shame that Racing Post holds the form database rather than the BHA as would be the case anywhere else in the World.
January 11, 2010 at 18:54 #269319Get set up on Facebook and any other social networking sites. Easiest way to get to the younger generation. The sea the stars page got a pretty decent take-up. That will allow you to keep up communications.
If you’ve already got one I apologise!!
