Tippi ( thanks for your Warren Place report – and apparently a man in a Balaclava carrying a concealed blade and screwdriver was caught sniffing ’round the property early one evening looking for Cecil’s remains.) As for the Bush girl she wrote the song at the tender, possibly post pubescent age of 13. It was directed at someone close to her according to Steve her first boyfriend. Long been assumed it was David Gilmour who produced the song when she was sixteen but doesn’t look like it ( unless she was psychic). It was an older man – the child in his eyes was her. It looks like a forbidden crush to me. She was a late developer. I asked my parents if I might ‘ unofficially ‘marry at eight years old and hotfoot it with my little cherub to Kenya and live with the Masai and help with the cows.

Looks like me and Kate have something very much in common – we are both living our lives in reverse gear.

Steve Blacknell is hot favourite to be the man with the child in his eyes.

    steve-blacknel

The budding pop star was just 13 when she wrote the lyrics to the international hit featured on her debut album The Kick Inside.

The 1978 release was generally believed to be about one of her earliest musical mentors, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, who produced the album.

But the 30-year puzzle was explained yesterday as her teenage sweetheart broke a 35-year silence and put the letter, which includes the lyrics to the song, on sale for £10,000.

Kate has never spoken about the inspiration behind the haunting ballad which was her second top 10 hit.

Now Steve Blacknell, her first boyfriend, has revealed the story behind the music, as the hand-written lyrics went on sale at music memorabilia site http://www.991.com.

Penned in girlish pink ink with circles over the “i”s instead of dots, the piece is part of a package that features hand-written lyrics to another track from The Kick Inside.

Music journalist Steve Blacknell, 58, of Hythe, Kent, said: “By the spring of 1975 she had become my first true love. She had her heart set on becoming a star and I was going to be a DJ.

“In the summer of 1975 I landed a job with Decca Records.

“It was then that I thought I was equipped to hear her music and it was a day I’ll never forget. I went round to her house and she led me to the room where the piano was.

“I thought ‘Oh my God’. What I heard made my soul stand on end. I realised there and then that I was in love with a genius.” He added: “As things hotted up for her, so our relationship cooled and we drifted apart.

“But I’ve been told by those around her that I was indeed The Man With The Child In His Eyes and I know that those words were given to me by someone very special. I’m proud to have known and loved her.”

Julian Thomas, of 991.com, said: “This is one of those items that comes on the market once in a blue moon. We’re expecting a lot of interest.”

The Man With The Child In His Eyes won an Ivor Novello Award in 1979.

Kate Bush, now 55, completely withdrew from public life in 1998 after the birth of her son Albert with her guitarist husband Danny McIntosh.

    GET ORF OF MY CLOUD

I meant Steve not Jack. Look if he was Steve and this Steve had as badder temper as you have, he might have also been Heathcliff in the great homecoming. That’s something to chew over SNIFFA
