Hey guys, i have been reading this forum for a while now and seems like a cracking site with loads of realy informative views. I signed up before but have never posted anything. Now the new flat season nears its start i thought i would get goin.

Couple of points on New Approach. Was having a gander at the 2000 Guineas and noticed New Approach has been bought by the Princess of Jordan. Does anyone know how much he went for? Considering the prices Godolphin have been paying for big horses, she must have forked out a right few notes for this classic contender.

Secondly, looking back at Teofilo and Soldier of Fortune, do you think he could be Galileo’s best nipper to date?

New Approach has the potential to be exceptional but having looked forward all last winter to Teofilo I’m hesitant to get over-excited.

I must admit to backing him for the Guineas after he beat Raven’s Pass and co. at the Curragh but I have mixed feelings about him after the Dewhurst- it took a long time for him to get going there and I only half-believe Jim Bolger’s explanation that it was because of the different tactics employed that day. On balance I’d be against him at current prices and can see him drifting up to the off on the day, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t got a great chance! I think the Guineas is by far his best chance of Classic success.

That was rio de la plata at the curragh, ravens pass was the dewhurst.
Was very impressed by New Approach’s win in the national stakes on good-firm, because I thought that rio de la plata had everything in his favour that day.

I personally think that Ravens Pass could cut him to bits on good to firm at newmarket, especially if reports are true that he’s trained on well.

However, I think that New Approach looks like the sort of horse who could switch of at the slower pace of epsom and if a horse like that came off tattenham corner with a full tank, it would be game over. In betting terms its a case of hoping he doesnt make it there in form, or getting up balls of steel to back him at his current price, which wouldnt be my cup of tea.

Anyone know if New Approach is going to be allowed his companion pony at Newmarket and Epsom. I doubt it. He just might sulk.

    Welcome to the forum.

I only been a member since about January myself and everyone on it is fantastic and has their own view on things and even if they dont agree with what you say or if you dont agree with what they say your view is still respected.

You are wondering how the Princess Of Jordan bought the 50% of New Approach when Godolphin were unable to match?

I would say Darley purchased the 50% of New Approach under Princess Haya, whom is the junior wife of Sheikh Mohammed.

Although a current favourite, he seems to have slipped off the radar? Could get worse after the Craven meeting too. I just seem to forget that New Approach is the favourite and hence the one to beat.

like i said, very informative – cheers MD. Never knew the Princess associated with the SM.

I had plans to back Fast Company considering he didn’t lose by much to New Approach in the dewhurst, even with a bad break but the boys in blue aren’t making very good noises. NA is defo the one to beat.

Some one mentioned not getting excited about NA because Teofilos demise last season. Imagine the Derby we would have had with Authorized, Teofilo and Holy Roman Emperor?

Cant see the Boys in Blue doing well this season but dont forget that nothing will be 100% wound up for the Craven as the trainers will leave a bit to do before the 2000 gns.

Plus the Greenham at Newbury is also a race to keep an eye on being over 7f its gives trainers a chance to see if they have a miler on a sprinter to do battle with.

    Remember the old saying tho.

The fittest win the Guineas, luckiest wins the Derby and the toughest wins the Leger

    Neil,

Which Derby winners in the last 20 years won because they were lucky?

Not many, if any I would think.

I think Bolger will keep on the low with New Approach after Teofilo. Kind of an "insult" to Teofilo if he went around praising NA as a super horse and one of the better horses he has trained.

Doesn’t mean NA is up to standard.

Was going to post my traditional 2000 guineas thread now we are finished with all the jumps rubbish  but may as well just add my nose into your thread instead.

I opened an account with Boylesports a couple of weeks ago and put my free bet (£100) on Ravens Pass @ 7/1 for the 2000 Guineas. Thought it was a good idea at the time but not so sure now because New Approach looks very solid. Seems to win on all grounds, 8f isn’t going to be a problem and hasn’t really looked like losing in any of its starts imo. Took a while to get moving last time but left Ravens Pass trailing in its wake once it got going. Blue Square are offering a standout 3/1 and that tempts me even accounting for it getting a bit revved up pre-race. If the ground turns out good or better then connections of Ravens Pass are prolly going to be very confident but that is a big if.

Fast Company seems friendless in the market though it wouldnt be the first time Godolphin’s "second string" has run well, but Ibn Khaldun seems to have been the subject of good reports and I don’t think its got THAT much to find to be a factor. Notice also there’s been money for Jupiter Pluvius (Ballyhype), Conquest (Stoute) and Twice Over (Cecil) who all seem to have a bit to find but wouldn’t want to dimiss any of those stables no1 hopes.

So on balance, I’m probably inclined to think the favourite will win it but perhaps a last minute bet would be best in case it doesn’t take to the preliminaries, and it can’t get much shorter than it is now surely?

I think New Approach was initially owned 50% by the Bolger’s and 50% by the breeder. The breeder sold his half-share to Darley before the National Stakes, and the Bolgers sold their 50% after the Dewhurst.

    Phew

Not sure about that. Can a horse really settle in the Derby? Because of all the turns and gradients (not to mention the atmosphere of the day) its not exactly a course that lends itself to simply bowling along.

Somehow he doesnt strike me as a Derby type

On breeding being by Galileo, from the Sadlers Wells line he is definately a Derby type.

    Sir Percy.
Firstly because Ballydoyle admitted to having no idea how to ride Dylan Thomas and therefore sent him straight to the front. As we now know, he needs to be held up.
Secondly, Halla Beck(?) stumbled about 3 metres sideways when looking like the winner.

There are two horses which must have disappeared off the face of the earth.

Him, who I think was Hala Bek or similar – and Dragon Dancer!
