I had to write about Yanworth!
I am generally correct when I have a gut feeling about a horse or performance and what I saw Saturday from yanworth was special IMO.
Not only the way he won was impressive but how he managed it from how the race panned out amazed me more.
Firstly the horse was very wide for the majority of the race ( I know this can be to seek better ground or to get a clear view of hurdles, but he was wider than necessary and the majority of horses stayed closer to rail) this, to me meant he was losing ground from being so wide.
Secondly, I thought that his jumping wasn’t great and there is plenty of room for improvement come Cheltenham.
This is all backed up from what King said that he could be the best he’s ever had. The handicapper thinks it was a special performance and geraghty said he could be even better on good ground!
To me 2/1 is a fantastic price compared to some of the Mullins hotpots. Who have been priced more on reputation than form.
Yanworth has to be my banker of the meeting and I might even have a little eager for next years champion hurdle at 33/1.February 7, 2016 at 19:12 #1232727Normally a trickier affair but this year Yanworth looks the real deal and just could be a Champion Hurdle winner of the future
February 9, 2016 at 18:12 #1232908Yorkhill looks to be going neptune now and bellshill bartlett.
Thank the Lord for to win any race.February 10, 2016 at 10:13 #1232967Great call re champion hurdle 2017.
Hard to disagree with anything in the OP but he’s now odds on in places.
I wouldn’t be writing off Shantou V just yet. You could see from the off he absolutely hated the ground. Sure Yanworth could be better on good ground but Shantou V will be immeasurably better on a sounder surface. His jumping was perfect at every hurdle. I still like him for this one… Just hope they don’t run scared of Yanworth and head to the 3m slog.February 11, 2016 at 14:15 #1233106Yanworth looked an absolute beast the other week, to me the Neptune field looks weak and this horse should prove a world apart. The only worry is Yorkhill as I was impressed with his win at Sandown on very testing ground where his class prevailed but he’s good enough odds to have an easy saver on.
March 14, 2016 at 12:37 #1237358I love the plunge on Yorkhill in this. Just means that Yanworth will be a much longer price than he should be. There might even be 2-1 available on Wednesday- proper “fill your boots” time.
March 14, 2016 at 13:06 #1237364Sounds good to me Gladiateur.
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
March 14, 2016 at 22:23 #1237478How confidence can slip!! I was extremely happy with Yanworth until Mr Mullins merry go round sent Yorkhill here!! He will win and win well too
March 15, 2016 at 18:26 #1237722After the Mullins treble today and yorkhill rerouted the drift on Yanworth has begun…..keep drifting Yanny….oh keep drifting
March 15, 2016 at 18:38 #1237730I still find it strange that everybody seems to assume that Yanworth’s form this year (all on heavy ground) will stand up now that we are racing on good ground – it may not overly affect his actual performance but it could result in a huge amount of improvement from any of his rivals that simply just couldn’t cope with the awful winter ground.
March 15, 2016 at 18:48 #1237736Remember Yanworth himslef ran well in the bumper last year on good to soft, so he could improve for it also. Personally, I think he’ll win pulling a cart. Opinions eh!
March 15, 2016 at 19:49 #1237759Nothing wrong with differing opinions, it is what it is all about – personally think Yorkhill will be sitting in the cart Yanworth is pulling and then jump out and do him up the hill
March 15, 2016 at 20:29 #1237771Yorkhill wins pulling a cart tomorrow…serious serious horse Imo! .
March 15, 2016 at 23:01 #1237825Just looking through the formbook for some Yorkhill form on good ground…can’t seem to find any?
Notice Long Dog (my earlier fancy for this) has come out….under the radar a little with all the Vautour stuff this morning….yet another though where Ricci on record as only ever saying this race was the target!
Yanworth to win it now for me, previous course form just swings it for me…
March 15, 2016 at 23:08 #1237827A Toi Phil for me .
Won a good race at Leopardstown very easily and could be decidedly useful!! Am on ante post and have backed it again at 8/1 !!
March 16, 2016 at 13:01 #1237984Looks a two horse race. Am on Yanworth ante-post but had a saver on Yorkhill.
Value Is EverythingMarch 16, 2016 at 13:39 #1237991Yorkhill was value for a bigger winning margin but would Yanworth have been closer if he hadn’t taken the widest route of the whole field?
