Nicky Henderson says he still doesn’t know which race Simonsig will go for at the Cheltenham Festival.
The exciting novice is entered in the William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle over two miles and the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle over five furlongs further.
The six-year-old grey enhanced his Festival prospects with an impressive victory in the Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso last time.
"I had a long chat with Simonsig’s owner and we went from one race to another," said Henderson. "I don’t know yet, it’s a matter of deciding which is the right race for him.
"He’s got so much speed that swayed me towards the Supreme but then I swayed back to the Neptune.
"Barry (Geraghty) initially thought Neptune and now he’s wavering.
"Darlan and Tetlami will both definitely run in the Supreme but that won’t have any effect on the Simonsig decision.
"We’ve others for the Neptune too and he’ll just go for the race that is best for him."
February 29, 2012 at 09:35 #394145Fingal Bay definitely NON RUNNER.
Aimed at Aintree and Punchestown now.
February 29, 2012 at 09:58 #394151Fingal Bay will need about 5 1/2 miles round Aintree if he wants to win a race.
February 29, 2012 at 10:59 #394160I think it is more and more likely that Simonsig will head to the Neptune and Boston Bob will be Albert bound
February 29, 2012 at 11:54 #394169Could quite possibly be that Mr Mullins is a trends man and has realised 0/38 is a very strong trend for 7yo and above to turn over in this race
February 29, 2012 at 12:33 #394177Sous le Cieux looks a lively contender for mullins here.
Boston looks a 3 miler out and out.
I think Boston wins whatever he goes for.
February 29, 2012 at 13:09 #394181Sketti – sshhh re SLC…Quite a lot written about him in January in certain posts. Also mentioned recently on The Morning Line
I’m Waiting for nrnb and then, like a few others on TRF I think, will be having a significant interest in this horse!!

February 29, 2012 at 13:36 #394185I’d also like to put an end to this farcical 7yo ‘stat’. Most people consider 20/1 to be the point at which ‘outsiders’ appear in the betting. 34 7yos ran between 2002 and 2011. Only 9 went off at a lower price than 20/1. 5 of the 9 finished in the top 5, although only 1 was placed.
I’m not keen on age stats either however 1 win (French Holly in 1998) in 40 runnings is a little off putting. Only one other winner older than that which was Brown Lad in 1974. I think this age trend could continue particularly with the introduction of the Alfred Bartlett where trainers now have the option of sending their more out and out staying types. 7 yr olds are 3 from 7 in that race.
March 3, 2012 at 18:12 #394712Simonsig’s in the Neptune.
March 4, 2012 at 00:15 #394755Simonsig’s in the Neptune.
Purely means better prices for others. Can not see him winning this.
March 4, 2012 at 00:27 #394758I’m pretty sure Simonsig will end up tripless & one of the most frustrating horses in recent memory.
March 4, 2012 at 00:33 #394760I’ll be baffled if he i still shhan Boston Bob when he is declared. Simonsig has so many questions to answer.
March 4, 2012 at 01:09 #394765Hendo talks ”’T, he’s gone neptune simply ‘cos he has two fancied runners in the supreme.
If he’s a ‘Baby’ why is he pushing over the extra 5f?? Surely more damage can be done??March 4, 2012 at 11:24 #394788I just don’t understand the price with Simonsig, fair enough he gave Fingal Bay a good race, but 7/2? No thank you, he should be around the 7/1 mark. He looks a chaser in waiting anyway, Arkle bound next year hopefully?
March 4, 2012 at 19:57 #394833I’m pretty sure Simonsig will end up tripless & one of the most frustrating horses in recent memory.
IMO he’s got three mile chaser written all over him. RSA 2013 Can’t beat Boston Bob in the Neptune and couldn’t beat Sword of Destiny in the AB
March 4, 2012 at 21:24 #394839Sounds like one or two people are disappointed that their Supreme money has gone down the drain. Get real given that he had never raced over the trip he had far more questions to answer in the Supreme. In the end you didn’t even have the ‘he couldn’t beat Fingal Bay’ argument left.
March 13, 2012 at 19:18 #396335Had a shocker today so i hope SIMONSIG can win this tomorrow.
