Tendon injury, just read on channel 4 teletext.
Sorry to hear that Beckie!
March 19, 2009 at 13:30 #217295That’s awful news.
Seems it could have happened during the race in the Gold Cup.
Let’s hope he has a quick and full recovery.
March 19, 2009 at 14:27 #217303Commiserations to connections, I know John Hales has been very lucky to have so many good horses but still, he’s had an awful lot of bad luck with them
March 19, 2009 at 14:48 #217308…and this so soon after losing Grizebeck, too. Really sad to learn of this.

Neptune Collonges will be out of action for a year after he was thought to have suffered an injury in the totesport Gold Cup at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Paul Nicholls-trained grey finished fourth behind Kauto Star last Friday but has sustained a tendon problem.
Owner John Hales told BBC Radio Shropshire: "We believe it happened in the race, but it didn’t show up until a few days after.
"It might have been the reason why he didn’t perform at a normal level."
The three-time Grade One winner will now be assessed by vets – but will not be fit enough to line up in next year’s Gold Cup.
"He now has to have his legs looked at by the vets and the appropriate treatment applied," added Hales.
"But it means he’ll be off for 12 months, which means he’ll miss the rest of next season as well."

He performed at a pretty good level to be fair. I’d say it didn’t hamper him in the race.
March 19, 2009 at 15:28 #217317Damn shame as he’s a lovely horse with a huge following.
I was just saying on the Cheltenham forum that there is normally a slight swelling even if it a minor injury and if it happened in the race, why wasn’t it spotted earlier? He need not have been lame but if his legs aren’t checked for heat or swelling and he does even light work, that’s where further damage can occur.
It’s been 7 days since the GC so it would come as no surprise if that’s exactly what happened.
Beckie may be able to shed some light on what happened next time she’s a round.
March 19, 2009 at 15:48 #217322Such a shame.
For me a grey in the John Hales colours is the most wonderful sight in racing.
March 19, 2009 at 16:54 #217331At least we know that he will be given all the time and care that he needs by connections; rotten luck with Noland being out for all of next year as well. I agree; seeing a grey horse carrying those colours in a race tears at the heartstrings, doesn’t it.
March 19, 2009 at 23:27 #217418Sorry to see a top-class chaser crocked. Let’s hope he comes back to compete at the top level, although I fear we may have seen the best of him.
March 20, 2009 at 00:28 #217431That’s really sad. He fully deserves a place in any Gold Cup line up and he’ll be very much missed.
