Hi
I’m putting together a boardgame and need help with some jockey silks and caps. I cannot find any colour information on these two horses.
COTTAGE RAKE and MANDARIN.
Anybody with a long enough memory or reference book please! Thanks in advance
SteveFebruary 24, 2008 at 22:24 #146259why not choose different horses then ?
February 24, 2008 at 22:25 #146260bugger, its in b+w, you’ll need ted lowe commentating to describe these colours to you : http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_s … 774004.stm
(cottage rake)
February 24, 2008 at 22:29 #146262I think Mandarin was apricot with a black hoop if memory serves correctly. He was owned by Mrs Hennessey I think.
Darren – AngloGerman

Madame Hennessey for mandarin – 1960-61
surely colours discontinued ?
February 24, 2008 at 22:43 #146265Thanks for Mandarin – that sounds about right – i have a b/w photo and it does appear the silks look very similar to Arkle.
I selected the horses and made up the cards before considering the availablity of the info (the net has never failed me before..) The selection criteria was only jump horses and to have some degree of fame preferably from before the turn of the century. The 36 i decided upon were: Arkle
, Red Rum, Desert Orchid, Golden Miller, Dawn Run, Best Mate, Crisp, Bula, One Man, L’Escargot, Pendil, Mill House, Monksfield, Night Nurse, Aldaniti, Tied Cottage, Istabraq, Captain Christy, Sea Pigeon, Comedy of Errors, Hedgehunter, Silver Buck, Foinavon, See You Then, Lanzarote, Corbiere, Spanish Steps, The Dickler, Mandarin, Persian War, Jay Trump,
Cottage Rake, Moscow Flyer, Burrough Hill Lad, Suny Bay, Amberleigh House. I know that i have hurdlers and steeplechasers but that is not a consideration and that one or two might be a bit "out there" (Spanish Steps was a personal favourite when i was a young ‘un.) If anyone thinks i’ve missed a real champ plz let me know but keep in mind the criteria above.
Thanks again
SteveFebruary 25, 2008 at 10:03 #146310Mandarin would have been grey with a crimson hoop. I think Cottage Rake was white with a red chevron, but I wouldn’t be certain. Mandarin, for sure.
