Keep it going Marble. You’re getting replies and getting reads.
BTW, comparing your thread to the AW one is unfair and puts you under pressure. That one is one of the most mature on the whole board with an ever-changing roster.
And bear in mind, in December there was only Aaron and I doing any regular posting, so you get lulls there too.
Also, us TRF Sandmen are a bit like Custer’s seventh surrounded by the jumping Sioux at the Big Horn, so we’ve got dat ethnic ting’ in our favour.
(I have had ONE winner this jumps season from about eighty bets (Art Professor at Ascot), so I’d only embarrass myself on your thread with these micro-strike rate statistics. How am I EVER going to win the Chelters compo this year?
February 22, 2009 at 08:07 #211686Marble you’re right. I will endeavour to add my ignorant interest to this thread as it is in fact my only real wagering interest.

February 22, 2009 at 10:45 #211688Hi Marble, I’ve only just read this thread – I don’t often visit Daily Lays & Plays. I mainly bet in the big races at the weekend, and will be keeping my powder dry for the rest of the month, just so that I can say that I have made a profit for each of the past 3 months! (The actions of a mouse rather than a man – my Feb profit is only £14.94, but I know if I have one bet next Sat, then I will have more, so the thing to do is not have any.) Can’t see that profitable run continuing in March – I’ve got 2 week’s wages worth of Cheltenham ante-post that will come home to roost.
Haven’t had a proper look at the race, but I was thinking about Pierrot Lunaire at Fontwell this afternoon, though I rarely back short-priced horses (less than 8/1) [edit: or non-handicaps].
February 22, 2009 at 11:37 #211689How about this for a Play:
Nicholls to go through the card at Fontwell today?
He’s got six favourites, plus Pierrot Lunaire.
Don’t have time to analyse which horse will let him down (not that I’m good at that anyway), off to work.
February 23, 2009 at 00:19 #211798Marble, Waking Ned was punted but didn’t want to know. A role as an extra in the remake of "Lassie" awaits. Strike him off your list.
Incidentally, I backed the Phillips horse in the race at 25/1. It finished third but two out it was hacking all over the field imperiously and I was counting my stack. I could feel it’s lumpy heft in my jeans pocket. Unfortunately, he didn’t stay/wasn’t fit, like a lot of the Phillips’ horses.
This is what I hate about NH. The last two fences took about three minutes to jump and for each second of those three minutes, the Phillips horse had a chance but really, he had no chance at all. It was an illusion, an utterly agonising Groundhog Day.
A 5f sprint at Lingers and you know your fate swiftly. Before the final swoop to conquer, you’re already looking at the 4.37 from Oxford. No hope is wasted.
Best of luck. Max.

I had a substantial interest in
Extra Bold
(2.50 Leicester) at 9/2 earlier this morning and see that he’s now a general 4/1 chance.
He was arguably unlucky when last seen at Towcester, having been clobbered mid-air at the last fence when looking a serious threat, and proved himself to be on an upward curve in conditions which weren’t ideal. His victory at Exeter three outings ago was very impressive for the grade and perhaps indicates that he’s far more effective on better ground. The going at Leicester will likely be good and he has to have massive claims with Richard Lee in form.
February 24, 2009 at 19:42 #212102Will try a little go e/w on Syncopated Rhythym in the Leicester 2.50 @ 16-1, and Team Chaser @ 14-1 in the 3.20 .
February 24, 2009 at 21:02 #212125Catterick 410
Anglecisme @ 14-1
Should like good ground get the trip and looks a good e/w shot, Chief Dan George will also like the ground but needs a fast pace to show his best and so is no money in the bank despite being so short

The fall of Extra Bold was irritating to say the least, but I’m glad I haven’t had any further bets in a bid to compensate for quite a heavy loss. I had marked Majorca and Super Baby down as potential interests in Catterick’s 3.10, but having watched the race a couple of times I’d be absolutely livid had I backed either.
Horses need to be put into races to stand any chance and, for market leaders, the rides these two were given were appalling.
February 24, 2009 at 21:22 #212132Am ainly having small stakes bets in the races on this thread as the good ground at leicester could throw in a nice price or two.
Prestine Condition 9/2 and Romper Stomer 40-1 could go well in the next.
February 25, 2009 at 16:09 #212272Am generally not a big fan of backing horses who are put out shortly after making a mistake in their intended target, however Iwillrememberyou falling in the eider was one of the biggest disappointments (not in a financial sense) for me this season as really fancy him to win, and if all fit and well he should be up to winning this today and is well worth a go at the 7-1, as had barely been asked to do anything at the time of departure on saturday.

Today is a real first for me – I’m building myself up to bet in a selling hurdle
Quite what has come over me I don’t know, but
Celticello
is surely better than the 9/2 forecast in the Racing Post? He has the best form in the race, should enjoy the step back up in trip and didn’t run at all badly (considering he pulled hard) on the flat at Kempton last week. His defeat of subsequent winner Anglicisme at Leicester in December looks solid enough and good ground shouldn’t be a problem.
Berings Express
looks a penalty kick at 2.50, even at the forecast 7/4, and
Down’s Folly
(3.50) would be my only other interest for the day.
February 26, 2009 at 20:28 #212469Unlucky equitrack. Reckon Ludlow looks a hard days betting, I have an antepost interest running in the last – Eradicate. Am mainly waiting to see how he fairs.
However I quite fancy a small e/w bet on iron man @ 12-1 in the 350 at ludlow as he is running 11lbs light of his last winning mark with ground in his favour, was pulled out of the Racing Post chase (after I had backed him ), and this may be an easy alternative, has had a couple of quid in the market aswell.
February 26, 2009 at 22:44 #212494Bulwark, I thought Iron Man was the reserve in the Racing Post Chase? He didn’t get to run because all 20 stood their ground. You should get your money back.
February 26, 2009 at 22:46 #212495Hey good point actually Gerald, will check on that later, wasnt a huge amount I had anyway, as 66-1 shot, but money’s money…
