Had an early bet on The Wallpark.

On the verge of starting this thread two days ago, but stupidly waited to put a few pounds on, only to see the 25’s vanish, so started chipping away at 20’s. Just a token gesture just now, as they could easily target something like The Ultima, but what I am sure about is that they’re mucking about with him

I’d happily have a proper punt on him Antepost, but couldn’t consider it without NRNB

The other reason for taking it easy right now, is that his stablemate Pied Piper is mylong term fancy, and I’ll certainly be having a good swing at him if he gets an entry

Edit – The Wallpark topped up

I think the run by The Wallpark today could be filed under “eye catching”. ;-)

    Too good Cork.

No way he gets in NH Chase now after that, and even though I can get it all back right now, my brain won’t allow it, and I’ve kept the bet at 25’s, cashing out the first bet at 20’s. A pending loser then

I’ll bet him for everything next year, and I’ll bet him this year depending on entries, but right now I’ll leave him, though The Ultima looks obvious.

    Final Decs

Not really blown away by this field, so think Backmersackme will be hard to beat

I’ll go with Union Station though. Haven’t bet him yet as he’s on the drift, took extra at 33’s

What I want to know is, how do they do it? To hide them I mean. Of course if you’ve got a horse that was third in the stayers then you tiddle about over 2 – 2.5 miles for the first few runs and then run in a four horse race for the NH chase quaifying run, with the aim of just getting round at the back. That bit I get. It beautifully until those pesky kids Gold Dancer and Western Walk got tired and he latched on and overhauled them with enthusiasm, Mark Walsh amusingly flapping his arms about making efforts “to achieve the best possible placing” presumably whilst muttering “whoa you bugger” all the way up the run in and after the line, when everything else was slowing to a walk and his was past the winner and exiting the right hand side of the telly at a decent clip. The bit I want to know about is the jumping- so bad he was getting detached early on. Do they just not school them at all at home until the last mark race is over then set to work? Or school in a small indoor arena over one jump so the horse isn’t used to jumping at speed and getting away quickly? Just sit there in the race really passively in front of each fence letting him prop and pop like an overcautious hunter for a geriatric rider? Or deliberately get him a little bit wrong everywhere to slow things down (difficult, if you overdo it he’ll make a bad mistake and hurt or scare himself). It’s quite the art to let or get a young horse to jump badly then flick the switch on D day. I wonder how good Harry Cobden will be at it, or will they just get the minions to do it and plonk him on the good ones when all the schooling is done and the handbrake is off.

The ride on The Wall Park should have been the subject of an inquiry. Losing lengths at the obstacles is no reason to make zero effort to close on the running between them.

The Irish stewards enquiring into the running and riding of a McManus horse? There’s a first time for everything, I suppose! ;-)

Go back a few generations in the pedigree and you find Cooldine.

He doesn’t race like an Ultima horse and is more like Cause Of Causes, who won the 4 miler, and Inothewayurthinkin, who won the Kim Muir off top weight and a similar rating.

    6-1 for the Kim Muir

Oscars Brother put up just 3 lbs to 151.

Did anyone read Elliotts Cheltenham article in the RP yesterday , funnily enough he mentioned just about every horsee in the yard …apart from The Wallpark , followed Bobby in , Sunday was indeed a joke , the whole season has , all to get that mark for Cheltenham

Paul Kealy said on In The Know yesterday that he hopes The Wallpark is allocated a mark of 146 by the British handicapper, just to scupper the clear and obvious Kim Muir plot.

    I agree with him.

It seems the Irish handicapper has seen fit to drop him a further pound to 142.

And if The Wallpark hacks up in the Kim Muir, I expect it will be the usual radio silence from ITV and RTV about its previous effort.

The Wallpark isn’t going to Cheltenham at all.

The more I know the less I understand.

Backed Backmeorsackme and Iceberg Theory last week. Happy to see both shortened up.
