My most memorable punt came in last year’s Ayr Silver Cup. I was up with the larks to see what Sir Tom had tipped up and was banging on No Morals’ shop door at opening time to get the 7s about the gorup performer masquearding as a handicapper, having the full pony max stake on.

Swiftly returning home I managed to lay off thirty notes at 6.6. Greater cowards than me would have had the full £30.56 on, guaranteeing the same profit either way, but my motto is live a little.

It was an exhilarating race, with horses split across the track and my heart was beating double time as Utmost Respect passed the post in front. I’d hit the jackpot – the full seven snarlers!

I don’t have to tell you it was celebrations down the pub that night – two ice cold krones and a packet of scratching, all courtesy of No Morals.

I think it was a Zen philosopher who once said ‘Noone ever went broke taking a profit’. I couldn’t agree more!

Somehow doesn’t have the same impact as TDKs heart-wrenching tale in today’s Post, Glenn….nice mugshot James!

"My Greatest Arb" – like it a lot – could be a new and exciting feature in the Post every Monday.

Mugshot is about right. Turning all your big priced winners during the year into losers. Not exactly recommended is it? Are they doing a sequel next Monday entitled ‘My second best ever bet’ where he details his time as a currency speculator going long on the Zimbabwean dollar?

Who said I didn’t back them in singles as well? 8)

Anyway – don’t take it so seriously Glenn – it is only a feature.

If the Post want some smart ar*e telling everyone how much they have won after the event, then I am sure they will come knocking on your door soon enough
