I fancy Alfred Nobel to win this one. I was very impressed by how he won LTO, despite Murtagh leaving it late because he was stalking a horse that ended up with no extra zoom in the final third. KP’s horse looks a good sort aswell, and it should be down to these two with my preference already stated. Extra Furlong and conditions will suit very nicely.
September 12, 2009 at 02:40 #248391Has to be Kingsfort for me, there just seems to be so much confidence that he’s top class. Last time he was backed off the boards in a red hot maiden and won easily. I just couldn’t oppose him.
September 12, 2009 at 19:12 #248511Good solid Preformance by Kingsfort there…..proves that Kevin Prendergast has his best crop of 2yr old ever.
Looks like the good horses are being kept for the good races.
Alfred Nobel was shocking…no other word to describe it and the fact that he raced when the ground was the worst has potentially ruined him…we may not write him off but AOB has had a shocker today virtually all his horses in Group 1s have been nearly pulled up stone cold last barring Viscount Nelson who had a decent showing on a bleak day for Ballydoyle.
Chabal however looks a serious horse….he basically pulled the for the first 2f and still nearly won……
TOP 2 are Group 1 class for sure….Alfred Nobel is a Group 1 winner but he was running against pacemaker in the Phoneix and he looks to have it all to prove now.
Also Seamie Heff hasnt covered himself in glory with that ride on the Jollie…..didnt get a early possie and was forced wide the whole way on the worse ground
September 12, 2009 at 19:27 #248512Yes, looks like what they say about Chabal being Bolger’s Derby horse is right. Can’t see any point in getting involved at 16 or 20 though. (I’m sure I’ll reconsider that in a drunken moment over Christmas.)

By the time Christmas rolls around 16/1 will be but a distant memory if the horse stays fit. I would say he pulled for almost 4 furlongs. Reminded me a bit of New Approach in that way. A serious race horse for sure.
September 13, 2009 at 16:34 #248638Chabal confirmed his promise yesterday and I’d take him to turn form around with Kingsfort when they meet again. He wouldn’t settle for Kevin Manning and he still looked a bit green when pulled out. McDonogh also managed to get under the stands rail which seemed to be a huge advantage yesterday. He looks tailor made for a crack at the Beresford in a few weeks.
Kingsfort is clearly decent as well. McDonogh’s jubilant reaction told that they clearly think a lot of him in Friarstown. Hopefully he’ll progress to be a nice 3yo but looking at both colts up close yesterday, I think Chabal might pass him out during the winter.
September 14, 2009 at 00:50 #248725Arctic beat Soul Power easily and Soul Power finished in front of Swilly Ferry at York .SF won at Doncaster so keep an eye on Arctic.Could be special .
September 14, 2009 at 00:50 #248726Smart money says Kingsfort is bought by Hamdan Al Maktoum, he has horses in the yard already…

Think it’s safe to say AOB won’t be winning the 2000 Guineas next season and if Kingsfort is the best they can come up with I’d be betting on the prize staying at home.
Chabal does look a Derby type but AOB’s St Nicholas Abbey really looks the part and looks sure to go right to the top.
I had a look at the Derby AP to see how he was doing in the betting and was shocked to see they make Lawrie Inman’s Coordinated Cut fav.
Quite frankly he looks another hyped to hell horse and I wouldn’t back him to win his next race never mind the Derby…….someone had 4k AP on him prior to his first run. I wish I had laid it……..he’ll make a grand 3 mile chaser someday.
September 14, 2009 at 11:05 #248775And the horses who looked like Derby winners of their debuts? Motivator, Galileo and…? It’s a ridiculous price but no need to slag him off because of it.

Don’t be rediculous……..I was emphasising the fact I don’t think the horse has any possible chance of winning the Derby and the bookies are looking for mug punters.

September 14, 2009 at 13:17 #248783Excuse me? You wake up on the wrong side of the bed, Fist?
How am I lecturing you? I asked a question and I’d like to know which subsequent Derby winners made such striking debuts over the past 20 odd years. Motivator won by 6 and Galileo won by 13.
New Approach won by 2, North Light beaten, Sea The Stars beaten, Sir Percy 1 3/4, Authorized beaten, Shaamit beaten, Benny The Dip beaten, etc.
September 14, 2009 at 14:23 #248799The Irish have dominated the Guineas the past few years but i think in Arcano Meehan may finally win a Classic. He would be my pick now.
Obviously i would like to think that Ireland could win the Guineas but its not looking very promising….I would expect Chabal would show up and Kingsfort. Bolger has a few more colts hiding there and Reitieration is one that there is some hype about.
Cape Blanco now re-enters the equation and we still have to see Steinbeck and Viscout Nelson. Alfred Nobel if your very forgiving…there are a few there.

I think you omitted to mention the part I referred to but to answer your queston:- I don’t get you point. Mill Reef was impressive beating a long odds on shot on his first run, won again then got suffed by My Swallow who was a class act in his own right. Then he won another race in hick deep ground by 10 lengths. He then got stuffed by Brigadier Gerard but went on to become a legend. What he did show was potentail at a high level what that fellow did was scraped home in a 5k maiden at Donnie in the 2nd slowest time of the day. Nice horse but a long long way off showing enough to be made fav over St Nicholas Fairway who was 100 times more impressive on his debut. Not my fault he looks more like The Dickler than he does Shergar
September 14, 2009 at 15:56 #248810Brilliant, 1 example from 45-odd years ago. Not every Derby winner is a Sea Bird.
I’m not saying by any means that Coordinated Cut is my #1 choice for the Derby at the moment but it’s hardly his fault that it was run at a slow pace. I’d argue that makes his performance more impressive since it turned into a sprint finish and Montjeu’s are hardly known for their speed.
Btw…

Which bit have I omitted exactly? Your first point is that you don’t think that he has any possible chance of winning the Derby based on his debut and that his current odds are a joke and your second point is that you never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever lecture people and that I’m being unbelievable childish for daring to spark up a debate.
I backed him at 33s the other day for £6 and I was planning on backing him regardless whether there was a gamble on him or not. I had no idea at the time that so much money had been put on him (this is all in the 2yo summary thread) and the money that has come for him means absolutely nothing to me.
I do agree that 16s is a pathetic price though, if that’s the bit you mean. I wouldn’t touch anything lower than 25s at this stage.

I’d strongly fancy Chabal to reverse the form with Kingsfort the next time they meet: he pulled hard and still looked green when asked to challenge. Still, it’s impossible to enthuse about a race in which Beethoven has finished a close-up third and the principals will have to improve markedly if they’re going to be realistic Guineas candidates.
September 19, 2009 at 15:37 #249364Arctic has yet to be beaten. Why ignore him?He beat Air Chief Marshal without breaking into a sweat. Pat Shanahan was looking over his shoulder for over a furlong!
