RIP Monymusk Lad ⚘Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 20, 2023 at 16:09 #1640763“His 10th ever race and had no placings.”
I do not wish to sound argumentative or disrespectful in this part of the forum but I would like to comment on this statement.
Maybe I have misunderstood but is it being implied that the horse should not have been racing?
I grant you his form was not great. However, he had run a fairly promising race on debut and had one or two other finishes in midfield.
He was a 28/1 chance on Friday. An outsider for sure but not a complete no hoper. The same race contained horses priced at 80/1 and 150/1. Should we question the participation of those horses as well?
The injury (which was horrible to see) happened on the flat on the turn out onto the next circuit. It could have happened on the gallops at home.
As long as the horse was fit and healthy and enjoying his training routine – and there is no evidence to say he was not – was there any good reason for this 7 year old horse not to run? Moderate horses run every day of the week without incident.
As I say, I do not want to sound as if I am trying to upset anyone but I think the context and circumstances of this horse and race should be considered.
Condolences to the connections of Monymusk Lad.
March 20, 2023 at 16:56 #1640769Yes I guess in stating a fact I had inadvertently implied that … I’d looked at his form too and no denying he must have been enjoying it as he seems to have set off with enthusiasm in his races …
