The more I know the less I understand.
July 29, 2023 at 10:40 #1656981Fresh won this race last year and for good measure followed up here in September. The mark won off last year was improved in September and while over last year’s mark today is under September’s.
For good measure, warm up race was at ascot over an inadequate six and made up good ground.
As to the physics, fresh is weighted under a runner carrying a penalty and benefits.
For all that, I’m backing fresh each way.
The other intriguing runner for me in this contest is the horse who was badly hampered and lost all chance when last seen Escobar Frankies final ride in this race. It is inconceivable that this horse has not been laid out specifically for this occasion and if Dettori doesn’t go off too quickly should make a bold bid from the winningmost stall in recent years. There are also aspects of traverse law to support the top weight with so many runners running on penalties.
FRESH
EACB WAY
ESCOBAR
EACH WAYJuly 29, 2023 at 11:44 #1656991Figures for this race are very tight with more than half the field within 3 lengths or so.
116 Popmaster
114 Lir Speciale
113 Safe Voyage
112 Top Secret
111 Rhythm Master
111 Vafortino
111 Star Of Orion
111 Spangled MacI’ll not over analyse and will take the top two against the field. Popmaster saw way too much daylight from a wide draw in the Bunbury Cup and I’m happy to take a chance that he can stay this trip, trainer presumably thinks so. Lir Speciale was another done no favours by the draw last time and was progressive before that. Drawn on the flank again…, but effect can vary from meeting to meeting.
July 29, 2023 at 12:12 #1657000He’s done me well in the past so I’ll stick to Vafortino, with a saver on Bopedro.
July 29, 2023 at 12:20 #1657003Im intrigued by the late jockey change on Valfortino
So two against the field to win.
Valfortino and RamazanPrevious e/w Orban 4 places. added Star of Orion e/w 6 places.
July 29, 2023 at 13:39 #1657020Frankie on Escobar makes him a play but the other I’m on is Fools Rush in , he caught my eye at york a prev time and while the form figures don’t inspire he’s def on a winnable mark
Fools Rush in

July 29, 2023 at 16:04 #1657060Jim Crowley had a great moment on Hukum just mow but in this on Orbaan drawn between the eventual 1-2 for some inexplicable reason goes far side when going stick readings told you near side was quicker. Not beaten that far on his side either.

July 29, 2023 at 18:34 #1657086Ignore me I didn’t back the horse and hadn’t seen the race I was going off the Racing Posts comments on the race which are inaccurate having just seen the replay he stayed nearside and ran okay, no excuses.
