Looks like the best 2m novice hurdle of the season so far. Quite a few of them pretty well quoted for the Supreme Novices.
Dee Ee Williams could be useful. His Cheltenham defeat of Cockney Trucker looks to be quite decent form after that ones win at Newbury.
And I dont think Golan Way has had the praise he rightly deserves. He has hardly seen a horse in front of him at any stage of the 4 races he’s run.
Anyone think one of these, or indeed any of the others, will be real contenders come March?
December 18, 2008 at 20:17 #197879Yes, i agree, it looks a very good race. Wendel probabley doesnt have the ability to go on to better things, though C Mann is in good form. Mederemit hasnt really caught my eye. Nicholls’s form isnt brilliant at the moment so Shamari is out of it for me. There is alot of form from when Dee ee williams has one so Bergo and DEW both have a good chance if reperforming there form. Golan Way i saw at Stratford and i never thought he would ever win at Cheltenham, so i cant rule him out. Door Bays form behind Diamond Harry looks good so he looks a good e/w shout.
I will have to have a good dtusy tomorrow morning for me to make a selection
December 19, 2008 at 01:48 #197925Friend of mine part owns Golan Way so hope he wins. Conditions look ideal and hopefully Wendel will not take him on in front. 7/2
Dee Ee Williams has good form but it is on good going, though has won on soft in bumpers. 4/1
Bergo has run two good races on a sounder surface, may be better with a speedier test. 15/2
Door Boy improved over much further and this may be too short / not enough of a test. 15/2
Shamani has potential but did not look this class last time. Needs to jump better. 9/1
Medermit needs to improve but could do so, from an in form yard. 9/1
Wendel may not be up to this but too soon to be writing him off. May not get an easy lead this time. 12/1
Alfie Flits is speedy and may want it to dry up a bit. 14/1
Prices are those I will be trying to beat on good-soft.

Value Is EverythingDecember 19, 2008 at 14:46 #197973An absolute cracker.
I like Dee Ee Williams for this – his form is just working out so well. Cockney Trucker has franked the form in some style, and even Bakbenscher (who was well beaten here by DEW) won this week.
Golan Way is the obvious danger, especially if allowed his own way up front.
Alfie Flits looks overpriced, and appeals each way at 14s in an eight-runner contest.
December 19, 2008 at 14:55 #197976This could be run at a breakneck gallop, with Wendell and Golan Way both wanting to dominate, and pretty much everything else wanting to race handy.
I’ll be looking to be with something which has a little bit of stamina on it’s side, and will therefore probably dutch Door Boy and Medermit to small stakes.
Cracking race in prospect though.
December 19, 2008 at 15:09 #197979I’ve gone for Golan…the owners are very bullish and he hasn;t let me down yet.
December 19, 2008 at 15:14 #197980Bergo is 7lbs. better off for a 3/4 length beating by Dee Ee Williams over this course and distance.

I have taken 20/1 about Medermit each way. Had Wendell not front run I’d make Golan Way quite a bit shorter but my pal says he does not need to lead. May well save on him. Ascot does favour prominent runners too.

Value Is EverythingDecember 19, 2008 at 17:08 #198021As much as I like Golan Way, I was given Dee Ee Williams as one to follow and not only has he done me proud so far, but the form of his wins have been well boosted by many of the beaten horses, so its him for me and hopefully for the Ballymore in March.
December 19, 2008 at 17:15 #198024I can’t see past Dee Ee Williams – think they’re making hay with Golan Way while the sun is shining, much like with other horses from the yard in recent years and taking in the best novice hurdles while they can. Dee Ee Williams on the other hand has looked a real class act and the form of his Cheltenham win is rock solid.
December 19, 2008 at 19:08 #198051Medermit goes in.
Good day so far for Barbury Castle.
December 19, 2008 at 19:11 #198053not too often to see a king runner win at these odds.but a very good effort by both horse.and a very brave effort by golan way,who did all he could do,there were just three better horses on the day.he will have enough chances left to show, how good he is.

December 19, 2008 at 21:54 #198080I think some appreciation of Mr Gingertipster’s tipping is long over due from this quarter. Well done sir.

Don’t forget Grass, he was there first.

Value Is EverythingDecember 20, 2008 at 15:47 #198221That was a great call by whoever put up Medermit. The form of his Folkestone race looked a bit short of what some of these had done, but he stayed on well up the "wrong side" to win. Still think Dee Ee Williams ran a good enough race and the fact the qwhole field was there with 3 to jump suggests the early pace wasn’t great. But I can see plenty of winners coming out again especially if they avoid each other.
