Am I being too cynical in thinking Mr Top Notch was allowed to win the 3:10 at Fairyhouse far too easily to give Connor O’Dwyer a winner on his last ever ride?
And wasn’t the commentary the most crawling and syncophantic ever?
Before I just saw the race, I suspected that these questions would be raised. No idea why.
Having watched it, I can’t say anything would have beaten Mister Top Notch, he travelled gloriously for O’Dwyer. Publican was given a bit much to do I’d agree, but he went out like a light and wouldn’t have won even if he’d been put up with the pace earlier IMO.
In fairness it didn’t take much winning when Robin Du Bois ran below form- he must have burst or something. Couldn’t begrudge COD his fairytale ending myself, have to start betting these stories though, they seem to happen regularly…
Don’t they just! I wonder how many people were on Sweet Duke that day at Ascot just because it was Scu’s last ride.
If we’re talking about soft wins at Ascot, surely the last race (or maybe even two, my memory’s a bit hazy) of Frankie Dettori’s ‘Magnificent Seven’ deserves a mention.
