Dut to be retired after chasing a fourth win in the Bunbury Cup.

I read in the Racing Post a couple of weeks ago that he’s due to stand at stud for a fee of about £1,500 if my memory is correct.

He may not have been the best horse in the world, but he’s enjoyed fantastic longevity in his career and has won over £350,000 in prize money.

    Value for money?

I can see some owners and trainers beating a path to his door at that price, for sure. There has to be a reasonable chance he could prove a source of fair – rather than especially classy – and honest sprinters. I wonder if he’s sent something like Aahgowangowan a dinner invitation yet?

There’s no doubt he’s going to be popular, especially at that price.

I’m sure he’ll be kept very busy and enjoy a happy retirement.

Would be a nice story but he’s by Primo Dominie; hardly a sire of sires. Definately one for the owner breeder.

It struck me that as he’s been retired in July then he will have missed this covering season.
Can someone with inside knowledge of stallion management inform me whether he will be be put to mares "cold" next year or would he be given a few "test runs" maybe on non-TB mares to "get his eye in"?

Mine will start off covering crap quality mares with little or no black type on their pages.

he could be like Dynaformer or Efiso in that he will upgrade the mars he covers, if he does he will change postcodes and get better mares, he will need support if he is too even have that chance.

It will be a struggle for him, especially as he doesn’t have a fantastic pedigree to go with his undoubted racing qualities.

In his favour is the absence of the ubiquitous Northern Dancer and Mr Prospector, so he’ll be easy to breed to.

I hope people dont buy his stock thinking they are getting an early two yearold as so many people think that sprinters progeny are ( wen they are not). He could surprise allot of people by covering cheap mars speedy pedigres and slowboat middle distance mares, then putting abit of pace into the foals. The fact he stayed sound so long is in stark contrast too so many sires about these days.
