One standout for me, and that is Read To Return. Shocker of a ride at Cheltenham in November, but after a few more spins over hurdles since, I’m sure he’ll land a Chase very soon.
He holds a Kim Muir entry, and I’m sure jockey will be looking to make amends if they can sneak in down the bottom there.
Happy to have an early bet just now, and if he looks a lost cause for The Kim Muir, then I’ll give him a proper go
Others to appeal right now are………
Ballygriffincottage
Dom of Mary
Macs Charm
History of Fashion
Moroder
Stormy Judge………but definitely main interest just now is Read To Return
Read To Return 20’s
February 21, 2024 at 15:23 #1681969I don’t think that Young Dev is finished for the season after how he won last time out. I’m not desperate for an ap bet in this, but I do think that 14/1 is fair enough
February 21, 2024 at 15:34 #1681971If I thought he was being seriously aimed at this and there was a guarantee of nothing worse than good to soft (unlikely now) then Kinondo kwetu would be a strong selection for me.
I’ll have a tickle at him for now and if he’s there at 48 hour decs with good in the description I’ll be getting seriously involved.
February 21, 2024 at 16:02 #1681979This is a race that I’m comfortable having an ante-post in, and I’ve went with Ballygriffincottage at 20-1. There was definitely a hint of a return to form on Saturday
February 21, 2024 at 16:34 #1681988It’s Truckers Lodge for me. This will be fourth time lucky for him to win it again. I like his regular jock Gingell, and I’ll forgive him that PU at Chepstow.
20-1 just now, I’m sure that he’ll run there, and I’ll hopefully have no more to keep this one nice and simple after the chaos of Cheltenham
February 21, 2024 at 18:37 #1682007This is probably heart before head, but I’ve got a huge liking for
Highland Hunter. I think they wanted him to get to the Grand National
but at 60th in line I don’t think he has any chance. He’s big and bold, gives his all, but you’d think the handicapper might
give him a bit of chance seeing he’s now 11years old. He’s likely to be
top weight in this and only 2 horses in the last 20 years have carried
more than 11st. He’s got it all to do but I could hardly let him run
without having a few quid on if it doesn’t look like he’d go for the
Ultima at the Festival.Highland Hunter 25/1 4 places Unibet
February 22, 2024 at 18:31 #1682101Mr Incredible needs a run – somewhere – to get in to the National. He’s been given 150 for Aintree and hasn’t been entered for anything at Cheltenham, or elsewhere, yet, apart from here. You would have thought that the Bobbyjo would have been an easy enough qualifier if they just wanted to finish fifth or sixth there. So maybe they are looking to go to try to see how good he is?
That would make him top weight here, but I wonder if Mullins would fancy a crack at this – it is worth £84k after all.
Of course, he could enter and amble round just to tick the eligibility box for Liverpool. All very intriguing though.
February 24, 2024 at 11:03 #1682395My main hope in this is Guetapan Collonges at 10-1. I will wait though, as that sensible approach paid off for The Eider.
I have had an bet just now though and I thought that 25-1 was a smashing price for Ballygriffincottage purely based on Ascot run, so I’ve joined you wotrMarch 13, 2024 at 10:47 #1685275Past winners tend to be low weight and Irish bred. But given how many also are entered in the Kim Muir, this is probably going to be smaller field than usual. Will wait for final decs, but Autonomous Cloud and My Silver Lining are interesting.
March 14, 2024 at 11:56 #1685817Young Dev will be my selection if he comes here. Second in the race a couple seasons back and off a reduced mark, I think he’s the pick at the prices.
March 14, 2024 at 12:29 #1685848Iron Bridge 11-2 ew 4 places
March 14, 2024 at 14:46 #1685928I went back and looked at the past ten years and every time the winner was within a stone of the bottom weight. They were also Irish-bred. This gives us a shortlist of:
Autonomous Cloud
Ask Me Early
Inis Orr
My Silver Lining
Young DevYoung Dev is fascinating. Second two years ago to Screaming Colours (nothing would have beaten him that day, even the staff at the course restaurant gave us him as a “tip” for the day). He’s here off a few LBs lower, and I don’t think Hogan would bring him over for the sake of it. He’s been heavily tried in the past few months – not sure why – but I can imagine he’s been targetted at this.
March 15, 2024 at 19:48 #1686590Plumped for
Young Dev 12s, but boosted to 15s –365 already offering a 25% boost on this race.
I’m chasing somewhat, to be honest, after a bad Cheltenham, for me (just the 2 winners).March 15, 2024 at 20:11 #1686604My silver lining
Ask me earlyVF x
March 15, 2024 at 20:14 #1686606My Silver Lining ticks all the trends boxes and is the main selection.
Autonomous Cloud may go well in first time headgear and will be backed as well.
March 16, 2024 at 06:46 #1686723While he wouldn’t be one to have the mortgage on, Beauport shapes as if a marathon trip might suit him, 140 is a tempting mark for a still young (8yo) horse rated 148 over hurdles who won the Colin Parker on his chasing debut and he is 16/1 with the books (and bigger on the machine) in what wouldn’t be the strongest Midlands National ever.

Hoping both can bring that Uttoxeter form into play. I couldn’t quite split them but was more concerned by AC as the Welsh national form states he bled from the nose when running no race but Fergal in his recent comments just seemed to put it down to a bad run, so dunno.
