Misty for Me put up a stunning performance at the Curragh today beating the five time Group One winner comprehensively. Henry congratulated Aidan and lauded the winner. Is she a star to follow for the remainder of the summer? Where does that leave W.of Ws?
June 25, 2011 at 21:01 #362501This filly is exceptional.
I was certain she had not trained on before Newmarket and that run just proved that i was right. In hindsight , wow this filly is good. That was a superb performance and i do not think Midday ran to form however but i still think if she had she would not have won today.
Misty for Me is a very likeable filly and i be with her for the Oaks at the Curragh to enhance her reputation as the Curragh specialist filly. I think that is 4 wins from 6 run and a 2nd as-well. Her maiden run can be discounted.
June 25, 2011 at 21:02 #362503Group 1 form trumps Wonder of Wonders now
June 25, 2011 at 21:26 #362505Cecil was impressed and he said last Thursday that Midday was in tremendous form.He made no excuses.Midday left the rest trailing.
June 25, 2011 at 22:14 #362513Midday ran nowhere near her level of form, irrespective of how well Misty For Me ran. Very very strange, surely there is an explanation?
June 25, 2011 at 22:20 #362517I’d be more inclined to say Misty ran a stormer over her optimum conditions.
Zip
June 25, 2011 at 23:31 #362521She ain’t very big but she’s a ball of quality, at least on a soft surface. Shame Midday wasn’t at her best, but she’d have had to go some to beat Misty For Me today.
Value Is EverythingJune 25, 2011 at 23:56 #362524After the Irish 1000, Misty For Me reminded me of Peeping Fawn and I backed her for the Oaks. Obviously that was an an off-day; even allowing for conditions being optomal and Midday being below par, it was still an eye-catching performance.

Off a funereal early pace, and on ground no worse than good, the miler beats the 12f horse, under an inspired ride from Seamie H. Not saying that ground or pace were plain to predict beforehand, but it’s relatively easy to see the cause of the ‘upset’ afterwards.
Though clearly a very good filly, I wouldn’t lionise Misty For Me on the strength of an easy lead, nor write off Midday for the future.June 26, 2011 at 02:29 #362531Simply inadequate excuses for a 3-1 on fav beaten by six lengths.Slow pace, ground too heavy, distance too far,one would wonder how dumb punters sent her off at the price they did.How about over confident jockey who believed the starting price? But that becomes another poor excuse.Boring.Does it ever cross ones mind that the Irish Guineas winner had the same problem at Epsom in the Oaks or shall we quit the excuses and accept the result? Midday will never beat Misty for Me.Why think otherwise?
June 26, 2011 at 03:05 #362532Hi Functionally Challenged I don’t think Midday will ever beat colts over a mile and a half( maybe some fillies) and Misty is probably a mile and a half horse herself. Why descrfibe her as a miler? Like calling Sea the Stars a miler because he won the Guineas.

Dear, oh dear, Andyod.
Like many others (including Timeform – so it would seem) you’re taking the form at face value, without any consideration of either the circumstances or the protagonists.
In what was the 2nd slowest run race of the day (8.37 secs above standard) the Guineas winner was allowed her own way in front, until quickening away from a proven 12f horse and a mediocre bunch of others.
In contrast, Midday (who has shown a lack of gears below 12f more than once in the past) was allowed to sit off the pace until around 3 out, and was found wanting for finishing kick in a race that turned out more of a sprint than a test of stamina.
While you might find pace ‘boring’ it is meat and drink to others, and while you’ll be doing your money backing Misty For Me for the Irish Oaks others will query that she’ll even run. Good horse she may be, but to put her on a par with Midday at 12f is – on the evidence thus far – plainly laughable.June 26, 2011 at 06:44 #362535Have always been a great fan of Midday, but I did feel she was a bit of a silly price yesterday.
Firstly though, I think Misty for Me got a brilliant ride from Seamie Heffernan, which I’m sure contributed to the win.
All the talk was about Midday gaining her 6th G1 win, but maybe people overlooked the fact that Misty for Me had herself already won 3 G1’s….Midday hadn’t won any at the same stage of her career.
Given that Midday was taking on an improving Ballydoyle 3yo (who was not miles behind her on ratings), in their own backyard, & having to concede 12lb weight-for-age (which I’m not sure can always be ignored)…maybe she should never have been a 1/3 shot.
Like Reet, I’m hopeful that when all this unravels towards the end of the year (in a truer run race, decent ground, wfa less), that Midday may be able to turn the tables with MfM. Although I’m not quite as confident as Reet seems to be!
June 26, 2011 at 07:24 #362536Most impressed with the winner but she certainly was allowed the run of the race.
The jockeys described the going as "tacky" and I think this contributed to Midday’s below par performance as she couldnt quicken on it like the speedier winner.
The slow pace was another factor and TQ, whilst not to blame for the defeat, is not riding with much confidence at the moment and I thought he was reactive this time instead of proactive as he was in C Cup and St James for which he was criticised.
As for a re-match, I would make MFM fav over 10f and Midday fav over 12. The Nassau could be a good race though as Midday clearly handles undulations better than MFM.
One good thing to come out of yesterday – hopefully the "this year’s 3yr olds are rubbish" brigade will be keeping quiet until it is proved.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
June 26, 2011 at 07:35 #362540Strange but true – Misty for Me paid out at 8.49 on Genybet compared with 3.6 on the Irish tote. If you like parimutuel/tote then offshore seems to be the future. See my thread on Zeturf also.
June 26, 2011 at 10:13 #362557Watched the race again, excellent ride from Heffernan. Underrated jock.
July 5, 2011 at 19:02 #363676Just perhaps Midday has not trained on. Just not as much as hoped for.So one horse may be on the way up and another on the way down?Just maybe.Maybe one wants to get in the winners enclosure and the other wants just to get in foal.Maybe.
