Am I the only person who finds him totally irritating from his nauseating voice to his opinions and sometimes utter rubbish that he seems to speak with more regular fequency.
I try and turn off when he is talking.
The nonsense he said today after Arvika Legionneres demolition job was and I quote
"Maybe going left handed last time at Cheltenham and the the tight turns there may have been his undoing"
What tight turns?
What rubbish.
Leave himn to C4 where he fits in wellApril 25, 2013 at 23:53 #437425He was a good jockey and thought when he retired he would make a good commentator on racing form and horses, but have to agree his voice is immensely aggravating and never says anything interesting or worth listening to. I really hoped when the BBC stopped showing racing he would move to Ireland and we wouldn’t hear his voice again, unfortunately he is ruining both ATR and Channel 4.
April 27, 2013 at 06:21 #437577He said twice today "I was speaking to Richard Hughes/Hughesy this morning and he said low numbers have a distinct advantage over the straight 5 at Sandown".
Well like Fitzy I never knew that! Trust me but thereyougo.
April 27, 2013 at 10:24 #437591Always tips up the favourite, and if the favourite doesn’t win, will tell us all (after the race has finished) how he was visiting the stable of the winner the other day and the trainer told him it was a cert.
Never says anything interesting or of merit. Almost the perfect example of a gravy-trainer.
April 27, 2013 at 20:41 #437673I suspect he is working to a brief, one he might not be comfortable with. I’ve heard that he is very anxious about the job and is keen to improve, so I feel for the guy. He was a very good jockey, with a touch of the blarney, and I think many would have tipped him as a future star pundit. The reality, as always, is proving much different.
I don’t watch him on anything but CH4, but I get the impression that he lacks confidence and his instinct is to just keep talking rather than picking out a telling detail or insight and allowing viewers to digest it.
I’m not convinced that CH4 yet know what audience they’re trying to serve – that can’t help any of the presenters.
One other thing that might be eating Mick, he’s used to being hugely competitive and must feel he’s a Grade 3 performer, at best, when measured against Clare Balding (sometimes she’s too intense but I thought she was superb today).

I strongly suspect that he’s "riding to orders" there; it’s probably an offence punishable by death to have periods of silence on TV these days.
April 27, 2013 at 21:04 #437675i thought we would see the back of him when the flat began but i was wrong
April 27, 2013 at 21:56 #437678After seeing him at Southwell when he was on his way back from that awful injury I’m just glad we’re seeing him at all; I was really concerned for him at the time; he looked so frail. I did prefer Francome on Ch4, but everyone seemed to moan about him as well. Given the extent of his injuries I don’t think we should complain about him having a job in racing; kind of feel we owe him something.
April 27, 2013 at 23:35 #437691I think he’s got the job on his own merits.
April 28, 2013 at 00:32 #437693He’s no worse or better than any of the others. I dare say they are all micromanaged in that horribly tedious PR methodology that has made everything banal. McCririck, love him or loath him, was clearly never going to be reined in and so had to be sacked.
Racing needs humour, characters and colour to compensate for the dire truth at the core of the game: we’re only here because most of you lose most of the time.April 28, 2013 at 01:00 #437694i thought we would see the back of him when the flat began but i was wrong
Nothing really against Mick, as Moehat says he’s come through a lot and is a respected figure on the NH scene, but agree with GodolphinArabian that now that the flat racing is underway he should go. We need a flat ex-jockey with an in depth knowledge of the flat horses and trainers. Mick seems a little out of his comfort zone now.

How about an ex-trainer, I understand one has recently become available

April 28, 2013 at 18:45 #437769Fitzgerald knows about riding and horses. Like Francome. They should be using him in the same way. Teaming him up with Cunningham to discuss the detail of formlines is a nonsense. Fitzgerlad knows his stuff on the stuff he knows. (Eh? )
April 28, 2013 at 20:57 #437782He never gives an opinion, for a race for example, he generally goes through the market leaders and explain why they have ‘strong claims’ without a definitive view. Can’t blame him for trying to keep his job, but horrible for a viewer.
June 6, 2014 at 06:40 #481222The guy is totally stale and needs freshening up, he was dire last night on ATR as Yates was on RUK.
Everytime you turn the racing on Fitzgerald seems to appear on screen. He does 4 days on C4 and then you think you’re going to get a break from him and he immediately appears on ATR the next day for a few days. Pure purgatory for viewers.
Should be restricted to jump racing at least.

Correct.
Dave Yeats I found quite hard work on RUK, it seemed to take him two minutes to complete every sentence.
On the subject of RUK, well done to them this week though, their features and build up on the Derby and Oaks have been excellent.
