Fantastic stuff: thank you for posting this.

The figure of £2,000 per annum in training costs in 1971 would equate to approximately £35,000 now.

I’m so glad this is on utube. I’ve had a video of it but didn’t know how to put it onto utube and have always worried that my video would deteriorate and it would be lost forever!

Wonder which track it was? On the same tape I’ve got a documentary about someone called Rosko Harvey.

So Flakey Dove was descended from Red Dove. And Grey Dove bred Dextra Dove who was a pretty good racemare. It’s horses and trainers like that that made me love racing and I guess it’s why I’m more interested in the small trainers than the big ones.

@moehat – Brigadier Roscoe Harvey owned Relkeel, Burnt Oak and various other good horses.

4th De Musset (Paul Barton) 20-1
5th Grey Dove (Mr Cecil Price) 10-1

....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.

Thanks. I’ve only been to Ludlow once but should have recognised the stand.

I can rewatch the rest of the video now I’m not worried about it snapping or accidentally recording over it.

    Moe,

Dextra Dove was a gelding – his story here, where we talked about this video. Great that someone has found it and made it available to us.

I assumed they were all mares! Well, that thread is six years old and I still haven’t done anything about my racing video tapes ( it was one of the things I was going to do when I retired twelve years ago along with watching them). I have a school report that says ‘Maureen procrastinates’ ( I had to get the dictionary out to find out what it meant) so nothing has changed. Whenever I see any old footage of Newbury I always look nostalgically at that huge gas storage container and it takes me back to my childhood as I used to live near to Saltley gas works. I bet I’ve got Dextra Dove on those video tapes as I used to record everything.A thousand curses on the horse that presumably beat him in that photo finish.

Lots of accessories on Amazon to convert viseo to hard drive or DVD for your videos at very resonable price. Hope this helps and ive been doing it for all my old racing video VHS tapes.
