I couldn’t have him for a Gold Cup either. I reckon he’ll be stuck between a rock and a hard place next March. A year’s a long time but I can’t imagine any scenario where he’d end up in the Ryanair, although that may eventually be his best trip.
March 29, 2019 at 14:31 #1412702Nicky dodging Aintree then…..Massive let down….i’ve said this before, but if that was Willie Mullin’s there would be outcry.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 29, 2019 at 14:53 #1412706Quote from March 23rd…
“We’ll discuss it further and I want Nico [de Boinville] to have a sit on him next week to see if he’s happy and take it from there.”
Can’t really knock him for that.
March 29, 2019 at 15:24 #1412847It’s a massive let down we don’t get to see him vs Cyrname- I don’t particularly like to knock trainers for not running their stars, and he has said today Nico thought he was still feeling his Cheltenham run…Doesn’t change that there would be a lot more criticism if it was WPM!
In what respect do you think Altior will be stuck between a rock + a hard place next March? He was below par in the QMCC but i don’t really think he got the best ride, and i don’t think the race panned out perfectly for him, Nico said he didn’t think they were going fast enough and that’s why he went more prominent (haven’t checked sectionals to see if this turned out right). I don’t see the 2miler novices that are looking like beating Altior to be honest. Le Richebourg is decent, i don’t think he’s tip top. Cilaos Emery hasn’t run more than once, whilst i personally think he’d have rated the best of them all if having run. DDG was very impressive and won very easy, but the race was poor. Where are they? The current brigade aren’t good enough either.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 29, 2019 at 15:40 #1412931The question would be will altior have slowed down a bit more by next cheltenham
I do agree though I don’t think nico gave him a good ride at all in the champion chase
March 31, 2019 at 22:55 #1415405Plenty of blue about for cyrname on oddschecker
Which is a bad sign for me as I had politologue in a couple of multis after Paul Nichols comments suggesting cyrname would very likely be going to sandown
April 3, 2019 at 20:38 #1415978Just rewatched the ascot chase and feel I may have wasted my money on politologue if waiting patiently does turn up here
He cruised past politologue that day before finding nothing for pressure and looking like he badly needed the run
he comes here fresh and now with that run under his belt should find some improvement so I’m struggling to see how the Nicholls horse can overturn the form
April 4, 2019 at 23:30 #1416183With my multis down involving politologue thanks to la bague au roi making that bad mistake two out I am jumping ship to waiting patiently
With the rain having fallen he will get his ground and comes here fresh
Min could be the fly in the ointment though it’s hard to know what to make of him after his run in the champion chase, though I really don’t know what ruby was doing on him that day was a very strange ride
Now the rain has fallen waiting patiently is my NAP of day two
April 5, 2019 at 11:19 #1416231Waiting Patiently may be the best horse in the race, but a long time since he’s run left-handed and might be best the other way around. Is yet to prove he’s fully come back from injury and will need to be right at his best to beat Politologue and Min. Last named ran an uncharachteristic poor race for no apparant reason in the Queen Mum… So bad that on the face of it iss difficult to see back to top form after just a few weeks rest. Plus, am not certain he truly stays a strongly run 2m4f. That said, a positive market move is a good sign. However, surely Politologue is by far the most likely horse of the three to show his form? Absolutely loves this place this time of year. Victories in the novice in 2017 and this race in similar ground in 2018. Gave an albeit below form Altior a race at Cheltenham. I was on Gods Own at a massive price there and 33/1 almost tempted me in again. Wouldn’t have been far behind Politologue had he not gone lame and pulled up going to the last. Has won this race before, but 11 years old and even at peak would be relying on the main three not performing. Top Notch showed himself as good as ever penultimate start, but disappointed over hurdles in the World Hurdle. Back to fences could get back to form for a trainer in form with an excellent record over many years at this meeting. I was against Hells Kitchen before the front running rank outsider came out this morning. HK was held up out the back at Cheltenham because tends to pull hard if taken on up front. Ran ok, but is possible being allowed a lead suits him ideally. At the prices want to be against Waiting Patiently and Min.
I’ve backed Politologue 2.76/1, Top Notch 11.35/1 with a saver on Hells Kitchen 14.5/1.
If I’d done it all this morning would change Hells Kitchen with Top Notch.Value Is EverythingApril 5, 2019 at 13:26 #1416270Top Notch 11-1 for me
April 5, 2019 at 15:22 #1416289I’ll go for a late one here, nearly made it without one, but at 11’s, have to take a chance on Top Notch.
April 5, 2019 at 15:24 #1416291Can’t have either Min or Waiting Patiently. Layed them both win and place
April 5, 2019 at 15:26 #1416294I think that things are set out for Waiting Patiently. I wasn’t going to have a bet,
but 9/4 is too big to turn down.April 5, 2019 at 15:39 #1416298A tale of two cities, Min has bounced back to the horse he threatened to be, and
Waiting Patiently clearly isn’t the horse he used to be. Well done any Min backers.April 5, 2019 at 15:43 #1416300Wow! Min won that extremely easily. Was he the only one to show his form? If not that was improved form and will be a tough nut for his old mate Altior to beat. Others let Ruby dictate, but even so – exceptional.
What the …. was wrong with him at Cheltenham? Does he need to lead these days? Was taking out the ear plugs that significant?
Value Is EverythingApril 5, 2019 at 15:56 #1416305That was reminiscent of Apple’s Jade’s romp in the 4yo hurdle a few seasons back. Take it at face value and the winner’s performance was off the scale. Were the others all that far below form?
April 5, 2019 at 15:58 #1416307Wow – Ruby said they got the tactics at Cheltenham wrong and he never really jumped but they schooled him over hurdles mid-week and they also took out the earplugs this time. He also paid a massive compliment to Altior as to how much Min would have won had he not been around (likened it to Exotic Dancer & Kauto Star)
Hopefully something may come out about WP but if not, we may have to acknowledge that his form of last year (beating of a declining Cue Card at Ascot) should not have been taken at face value, he could also be a bit of soft ground bully.
