I fancy Cavalryman, Brigantin and Fiorente.

If Cavalryman gets his Arc form back, it should be all over bar the shouting; if Brigantin gets back to his winning form against Dunaden, he might give him a race; while Fiorente’s beating of Joshua tree and Red Cadeaux in a Group 2, reads well.

Of course, there are one or two other decent sorts in there…

Really keen on Americain after the Caulfield Cup. Will be better off with Dunaden and won’t be so tapped for speed over 2m, and I think it’s worth remembering how bad his draw was as well in the Caulfield Cup.

Would also have Gatewood high on the list too. Geelong Cup win told us all we needed to know

I had a bet months ago on Gatewood. I suppose i didn’t think he would go there as i didn’t know that he can still get in through that race he won. I suppose if he runs it’s a bit of a bonus.

Yes, I like them both, too. And although I don’t like 2/1, I could kick myself for no taking the tip that Gatewood was A.P. co-favourite with Brigantin, (for whom money had come before the Geelong, for the Melbourne Cup). I remember Gatewood’s best speed figure last year was very good. 100+.

And Americain may have been underestimated this year. So classy. If Lucas Cranach were to win, I’d do my nut. I had him at a good price last year, with a saver on Dunaden. I probably did one or two others, though I can’t remember.

Gatewood is out of the Melbourne Cup. He had to win last night in order to get into the race but was only sixth. It would have been a tough ask anyway, having such a short gap to the big race on Tuesday. The Lexus Stakes, which Gatewood was sent off favourite for, was won by Kelinni, who will take his place in the the big one, for which he is best priced 25/1 to defy the short recovery period.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Americain has got a good draw, along with Mt Athos and the Weld horse. Think I’m going to back the latter two tomorrow.

I have backed Mount Athos at 12s and Galileo’s Choice at 25s.

Had a bigger bet on the Weld horse, but with Ryan Moore on board and plum draw, would be disappointed if Mount Athos didn’t at least place.

I’d still rather they had Australian jockeys on board, though. I’ve had small ew’s on all of the ones with a good draw [7-14]including the 100/1 horse; still looking for that 100/1 winner!] except Americain because his price was so stingy and Maluckyday [who will now probably win]. I backed Americain when he won so he owes me nothing.

I really enjoy watching this spectacle and you usually get a run for your money.

    I strongly fancy Galileo’s Choice.

He’s a beast I’ve been following for a while and I think he has the right blend of speed and stamina…and weight on his back!

Had a good preparation and the trainer knows the score.

12/1 (Hills) still a fair price IMHO.

Maybe I should do a RFC with Dunaden?

I hope this is my third winner in this enjoyable frenzy….and it’s worthwhile freezing my balls off in the living room at 4am

    Good luck all!

Mount Athos is as short as 4/1 for the race now. A joke price for all that he is an improver for a stable who have gone close before. I’ll have ten bob each way on Kelinni and watch the replay rather than taking the chilled conkers on the couch option!!

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I should have taken your advice Steve C.

    Well done on picking Kelinni.

Galileo’s Choice was arrant pants. Very disappointed as he had a good position the whole way round.

Surely he’s not that bad/soft ground dependent?

Mount Athos was a tad unlucky.
