I just think Chapman let himself down with his comments.
Fair enough if he feels it was a shocker but his re acting in expressing his opinion is what annoyed me.
I think Im right in saying that Chapman said straight afterwards "Mike Smith should hang his head in shame and apologise to everyone at the track" which in my view was a complete disgrace. Ive seen lots of UK and Irish jockeys mess up a lot worse at home and Ive heard Champmans reaction, usually its just "hes ridden a shocker". He certainly have never said a jockey should apologise to everyone at Ascot.
Do you think he would of said that Richard Hills should of apologised to everyone at Royal Ascot after his ride in the Covenrty where Richard Hills clearly lost the race due to poor judgement, I doubt it
November 19, 2010 at 20:12 #328709It is a shame Chappers and Boycie don’t appear on the same programme. Because Sean would pull Matt’s Zenyatta arguement to shreds.
Matts reaction to this ride is bang on,it makes me wonder what those that complain only about the beating the filly got are on! Had she been put in the race at some point during the first six furlongs she would without question won comfortably and her panic stricken jockey would never have had to resort to the ugly tactics! as for the "Grey Man" Sean pulling Matts arguement to shreds, dont make me laugh! Boycie is the diplomats, diplomat!
Boycie thinks before he opens his mouth. Whether a horse is in a good or bad spot in a race; depends not on how far a horse is away from the leader, but primarily on one thing. It’s the "PACE stupid".
It’s been PROVEN, those who were in the leading pack went off TOO quickly. It wasn’t that the leaders all started flagging at the furlong pole, they were ALL (including two fairly short in the betting) BEATEN on the TURN FOR HOME. That means they did not just go a LITTLE too quick early, they went FAR too quick.
Even second fav Lookin At Lucky who raced mid-div, could not manage the final furlong. Though possibly due to not staying the trip as much as pace.
FACT is the first THREE home were ALL held up near the BACK of the FIELD.
So…..
Just imagine this: Look at the race again and RUBB OUT all those who probably went TOO QUICK EARLY (first half of the field on the first turn). Now PAINT IN in ten horses between the second last horse and the last – Zenyatta. Now with those CHANGES – there are thousands of races, both in Europe and USA with that far between first and last.
It is the PACE that matters as to whether a jockey is correct in his positioning. If a horse is some way away from a leader who’s gone off FAR TOO QUICKLY,
CAN
be a
GOOD
thing.
