Went with Broken Halo here. 12’s currently, and though disappointing so far, he may just take a bit of time to get going. Think he’s better than current mark, and hoping to get better than 12’s
A Sandy Thomson runner gets a mention as usual, and Empire Steek may yet be backup, but the price has went, and he’s been a costly horse for followers, not really justifying the support he’s had. Hard to write off though, and telling that Mania comes here rather than Musselburgh.
Celebre D’Allen an interesting runner, but I’ll keep an eye on him for the festivals.
Broken Halo
February 3, 2023 at 22:17 #1633573Very rare to see you missing a Sandy runner Bob. I’ve taken him here at 14-1.
Kauto Riko is a leap of faith bet, but I’ve also bet him 50-1 ew
February 3, 2023 at 23:01 #1633585A competitive contest, as you’d expect, with a handful of horses in decent form dominating the betting. I think Celebre D’Allen is 5 or 6 points longer than he should be and he makes most appeal in this extra place race.
Celebre D’Allen has started favourite in 4 of his last 6 races, including the two this season. Connections must believe he is well up to winning again at this level. He was keen on his seasonal debut at Warwick over two miles (2/1 fav) and it’s probable that this was the cause of him not getting home in his first attempt at 3 miles (finished 4th). He dropped back in trip next time at Wincanton and was just never going (85/40 fav) – that was not his form. Still, in our favour, he has been dropped 4lbs since by the handicapper.
On Saturday he’s in cheekpieces for the first time to try to cool his keenness, and we will likely know our fate early. But the yard is in good form now having struggled for most of the season. The horse is 11, but has had comparatively little racing with only 20 career runs. He won three from four last season. His sole defeat was a 5th in the Festival Plate at the festival, where he was beaten just 10 lengths. Hopefully this will be the day he returns to that kind of form. I’ve backed him EW at 14/1 to 5 places with Skybet.
Good luck
Joe
February 3, 2023 at 23:11 #1633591Movethechains for me here. He won 4 times in a row over this distance. His last race was the Welsh National were he wasn’t in his comfort zone. Now with the very useful Niall Houlihan claiming a few pounds he must be on a winnable mark.
Movethechains 12/1 EW
February 4, 2023 at 01:28 #1633623Good luck Mark with that 14’s. Definite chance, and I just didn’t fancy putting up another Sandy one. If I miss one I miss one
Joe, good luck with Celebre. There’s surely a win in him this season
February 4, 2023 at 05:19 #1633635I’ve been waiting on Empire Steel all year , lovely prep at to short last time and Mania here rather than the Edinburgh National , played bigger earlier and he’ll be played around most of today’s bets along with Battleoverdoyen
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 4, 2023 at 10:12 #1633671Movethechains a non-runner unfortunately. Going for Larry instead. Won a few times at Sandown and 3 miles seems his optimal trip.
Larry 22/1 EW
February 4, 2023 at 10:30 #1633673I’m in the same boat as you dbr, and I’ve had to move from movethechains
I’ll side with Celebre D’Allen now at 12-1
February 4, 2023 at 11:21 #1633688Empire needs to win to get in the National , fair to say their trying , he’s my biggest bet in 8 months , at bigger in with Lemons with Kauto Riko , he wins less than me but Jesus he is well handicapped
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
February 4, 2023 at 12:22 #1633721I did like Bangers and Cash for this but now a NR, so will throw a dart at one in form at a double figure price – Eva’s Oscar ew 4 places.
February 4, 2023 at 12:27 #1633726Empire Steel for me, and a smaller ew on Larry
