Would anyone with access to Timeform ratings mind putting up Master Minded’s ratings in his UK races prior to Thursday and if they had a "p" beside (I presume they did).
Raceform use a "+" to indicate the same thing. Amazingly "+" does not appear beside any of the horses ratings so far.
Thanks.
March 15, 2008 at 12:27 #151488Timeform Rating 162p before the Queen Mum I believe.
Perspective comment: "has quickly established himself in Britain…..likely winner as any in the Champion Chase".
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2008 at 12:28 #151489Certain to be in the 180’s now.
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2008 at 12:36 #151492Ratings on the card for runs in Britain chronologically were
131+
132+
153p
162pNow 182+
March 15, 2008 at 12:37 #151495Thanks Ginge.
Cannot understand why Raceform would not have a "+" beside his previous runs.
Laziness or indifference perhaps.
March 15, 2008 at 12:38 #151496Thanks also DJ.
Very poor from Raceform imo.
March 15, 2008 at 12:40 #151497The first I’d read was that Phil Smith intended to rate him 186, to put the gelding 1lb above anything else in training. I don’t know if yesterday’s performance by Denman changes anything.
The more fanciful side of my brain wonders how, if at all, Master Minded could clash with either of his other two high-rating stablemates over a course and distance that would not be to the inconvenience of one or the other.
Maybe an Old Roan or Tingle Creek clash versus Kauto Star isn’t beyond the realms of possibility, but what would Clive Smith actually gain from having his two pride and joys going at each other in anger?

March 15, 2008 at 12:55 #151504What about the Ascot Chase, put 2 million up, winner take all. With half going to the trainer. Sure Paul Nicholls and Harry Finlay could persuade the others.
Denman, Master Minded and Kauto Star. Clive Smith would have 2 against one with 1 million to gain! Over possibly an inadequate trip for Denman.Ginge
Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2008 at 13:12 #151507I’ve got the Raceform Form Book in front of me and the rating for Master Minded for Newbury was 169+.
"He must now be the one to beat at the Festival" is the Notebook comment.
March 15, 2008 at 13:22 #151510Master Minded has stamina in his pedigree (stayed 2m 5f on soft ground in France) so the King George would be the obvious ‘coming together’ of racing’s three super-powers.
Alas it will likely never happen as Harry Findlay knows (and stated in the interview with Lydia Hislop and Steve Mellish on RUK) that Denman won’t beat Kauto Star when stamina isn’t at an absolute premium
March 15, 2008 at 13:25 #151512Thanks ROF
I use Raceform Interactive, they haven’t put a plus beside any of his runs. Looks like finger trouble on the data input side of things if you have it in the paper version. Surprising it wasn’t picked up given the horses importance in the grand scheme of things.
March 15, 2008 at 13:26 #151514Timeform have rated Master Minded 179+ for the CC
March 15, 2008 at 13:26 #151515He may have won at 2m4f and have stamina in his pedigree. But yesterdays vastly improved display suggests speed, speed and more speed.

Value Is EverythingMarch 15, 2008 at 13:42 #151519Yesterday Ginge? are you on the sauce?
Can’t see them talking Master Minded away from 2 mile chasing for the time being if he can keep winning 2 mile races like that why change..speed as you say Ginge and he’s got plenty of it.
March 15, 2008 at 13:54 #151523Alas it will likely never happen as Harry Findlay knows (and stated in the interview with Lydia Hislop and Steve Mellish on RUK) that Denman won’t beat Kauto Star when stamina isn’t at an absolute premium
… and vice versa of course.

Do you sense he might be swayed if we got a renewal of the King George on bottomless going?

March 15, 2008 at 15:10 #151543Master Minded has never won beyond 2 1/4 miles, and failed to stay 4100m on the only occasion he completed over the trip.
He’s not bred to stay, and they’ll no doubt keep him to around 2 miles.
