Two horses who I think will do better up in trip, both have form with my underachieving darling Westport Cove

    Quai de Bourbon 16-1 ew 5pl b365
Jigoro 16-1 ew 5pl NRNB Paddy Power

I have about fourteen on the shortlist for this

Seems to be loads of horses kept back for Spring handicaps instead of trained for Graded races

    LISNAGAR FORTUNE

Cracking form against READIN TOMMY WRONG (short head between them), crying for a step up in trip. Horse he beat last time (JASKO DES DAMES) has collateral form with JIRORO (JASKO beat JIROKO in France) who ran behind TULLYHILL today and MYSTICAL POWER previously. LISNAGAR FORTUNE comes out very favourably when you start to look.

Interesting to see if entered and what mark he would get?

He has been softly softly this season but has very good form when you scratch the surface…..

“crying for a step up in trip.”

He’s the brother of a Stayers’ winner after all! It’s a little off putting that he was beaten over longer trips last year but he was only 5 then- he’s stronger and a bit more settled now.

Had Staffordshire Knot and Mercurey behind him this year also- two good horses. Definitely very interesting wherever he goes.

    Agree greenasgrass

Stronger and filled out this year and READIN TOMMY looks a stayer in the making also and LISNAGAR was picking up nicely in the closing stages in that race and a strongly run Martin Pipe will suit I think. Strange as he is not entered in any novice races (taken out) so it makes me wonder if this is Mullins Handicap plot. Say it quietly

I’m not sure a mark of 119 would get it into this, but Hashthing is capable of better than it showed at Newbury over an inadequate trip last time out.

Love this race, but like Mark, the shortlist really is over a dozen.

Will probably be impossible to have a bet, even when entries revealed, but three high on shortlist are Jagwar, Stellar Story, and Making Headway

The one I nearly overlooked though was Samui. Been watching him since last winter, and though I missed him when he won at Listowel, I always thought he’d come again. Always looked like a horse that I’d follow, and I’ll be disappointed if he’s not in there tomorrow.

Just seen No Ordinary Joe run in the first at Kempton.
I didn’t have a bet in the race, but did anyone else think he was “tenderly handled” today?

    Placed in this last year.
Trouble is he’s another doubly entered, in the Coral Cup too.

    Currently 16/1 for both

Tenderly handled? Looked a blatant non-trier to me, Ginge!

I’m sure there’ll be some well-handicapped Mullins hotpot in the Martin Pipe, and the Coral Cup is always wide open, but No Ordinary Joe will be carrying my e/w money with extra places on the day, wherever he goes.

    “non-trier”.

I am sure all JP McManus’s horses are trying their best, just two weeks before Cheltenham. How could anyone think otherwise? ;-)

Very curious ride indeed but I’ve seen it mentioned here and on social media and it’ll be all over those previews when they kick off so he’ll probably go off a stupidly short price because he’s been plotted up despite the fact news flash its Cheltenham, everyone’s a trier, most of the horses there have the race they are running in as their main aim all season. To be fair its hard to ignore his festival and course form, he’s a big player wherever he goes, believe Nicky’s mentioned the Coral Cup which would indicate to me either he or JP or both have horses rated too low to get in a Coral Cup who they are saving for the Martin Pipe.

Ref No Ordinary Joe, Hes disappointed too many times in his races when looking like hes going to finish a race off well. Had a try over fences this season and again disappointed, I dont think todays race was very strong and unlikely No Ordinary Joe will do much at Cheltenham. If he does well, Ill get a slice of humble pie.

He’s got a fight to get in, but Samui the first bet here.

Pleased to see Stellar Story and Making Headway get entries too, and almost certainly bet one of them, but next added is Shanbally Kid

    Samui 50’s EW5Pls NRNB
    Shanbally Kid 20’s NRNB

Thanksforthehelp will probably be my third go in this, but I think even with NRNB, I’ll hold off unless I see any support

My top 4 for the martin Pipe

Waterford Whispers Won its novice nicely picking up really well from the last, 2nd next time over Christmas at leop. Off 123 ther (yeats star in behind,3rd recining 1 lb, now reciving 5lb from that rival so should hold it. giving the winner 8lbs. Goes on soft/ heavy. not seen since. only 6 only 4 runs

Yeats star Goes on soft, yeilding or heavy, won off 122 over 2 miles- a bit in hand, then placed over 2m4f Leop at Christmas off 124. young and improving, should stay 3 mils. 3rd at DRF over 3 miles off 126 – slow pace in that race so maybe not run to suit. and off 138 here. Probably the new course will suit better coming from behind in martin pipe.

Whats up Darling Well held by king of kingsfield and handicaps likely its level. mark of 137 maybe on the high side, but decent 2nd to Answer to Kayf (rated 135 now) in maiden giving it 7lbs and then won a grade 3 novice. beat last time in a grade 3. goes on good soft, yeilding or heavy, maybe not best on heavy. Gets a 7lb swing with Answer to Kayf for 4 legnth 2nd. so could turn the form there.

Five One Five Would really appreciate godd or GS ground, on a place mark in Welsh Champ hurdle and won Novice event at cartmel, Fiddle run latest in behind Shanon Royale off levels and close 5th. Culd run into places
