Apparently won’t be seen again until maybe next years’ Guineas. Strike anyone else as odd?
October 12, 2012 at 18:49 #416366I’ve got him earmarked as a Derby prospect. Hopefully he will miss the Guineas completely and not knacker my ante-post bets..
October 12, 2012 at 19:25 #416377He has done a little bit of work, now he is having a rest and next year he will come out to play.
October 12, 2012 at 19:29 #416379To answer the original yes but these days you expect any undisclosed injury to be reflected in the markets so perhaps there have been no issues and this really was the plan.
October 12, 2012 at 20:06 #416391Looking at the dam’s race record and her progeny, they have shown a preference for sound going. Something that has been somewhat elusive in Ireland all season. The fact he made his debut on the all-weather also hints that they do not wish to risk him on unsuitable ground.
October 12, 2012 at 21:47 #416414Good point, EF. You can see the logic in putting Mars away.
I know this thinking a long way ahead, but I expect that this lack of juvenile runs will persuade connections into keeping him training at 4 and maybe beyond. Even if Mars is a massive success at 3 with Guineas and Derby wins, a 4-y-o campaign would probably be necessary to balance the lack of Group One precocity.
October 13, 2012 at 10:54 #416504Perhaps he’s had a setback. How the Ferryman gets on in the Dewhurst may tell us more about Mars who beat him comfortably on their debuts.

Thought this might have raised a few Snickers from the audience but perhaps it was considered off Topic.
Mars is ridiculously short, based on what he has done, for the Classics next season. I would have expected to see him run once or twice more this season. I was visiting the stable the other day and, to me, it looked like he’d had a setback. You can judge for yourselves from the photo:-

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
