Never!! He’s been beaten twice as you say but I doubt we have seen the best of him. He was in the 5yo never win Champion Hurdles league remember. Of course they do but not many.

As far as a financial point of view is concerned he’s made me a very tidy sum having backed him at very long odds ew in both the Supreme and the Champion Hurdle.

Considering I backed him at e very good price this year and also backed Hurricane Fly at 7/1 I don’t think it much matters to me which wins.

I just happen to think it will be Binocular but accept the fact Hurricane Fly could be anything.

Visually I admit he looks what champions are made of but for me Binocular is the more composed complete hurdler between the two.

I just have this nagging doubt about Hurricane Fly and how he will react under real pressure….I have a feeling he’ll fold like a pack of cards the first time he meets a real horse. Don’t forget he’s only won 3 novices in his home country. He beat Donna’s Palm , who would be tailed off in any Champion Hurdle, Go Native who decided to take off one day and won the Supreme but has chucked it twice against HF and he beat his stable companion Kempes.

Horse has got a long way to go and much more to prove than Binocular has so I’ll stick with him in the meantime.

    Nine left in the race……….

    CLOPF
    DE VALIRA
    DONNAS PALM
    HURRICANE FLY
    JUMBO RIO
    MUIRHEAD
    SOLWHIT
    SUBLIMITY
    WHITEOAK

And with regard to Ruby, there’s not a chance in hell that he’ll give up the ride on Master Minded. Townend will be on Hurricane Fly again!

Mullins reports Hurricane Fly a "definite runner" – assuming the fixture beats the weather – and sounds quite bullish too.

Solwhit apparantly has the Fighting Fifth as an alternative.

I’ve never quite rated him as ‘top rank’ and that’s probably down to the inconsistency he displays after that first run I’m talking about; maybe he’s got chronic ‘bounce factor’ syndrome?

The run I can not understand looking back through his form was the 18 length beating he took on his favored ground at 2/1 in the Irish Champion last year, but even so, he’s still got a good year at a minimum of top racing ahead of him, and having had only a few runs for his current trainer it would still be fair to presume they might unlock this horses true potential just yet.

I wouldn’t expect him to win but he’s my candidate for the value if the rain comes, value being the operative word in a contest where there might be plenty knocking about based on the odds Hurricane fly is likely to go off at.

Marble, I don’t know what you’re talking about, Sublimity HATES heavy ground

Robbie Hennessey and John Carr before him have both said time and time again that the horse needs a decent surface to be at his best.

He beat a load of goats the run before he won the Champion Hurdle. He went through the heavy ground that day but there’s no way he’d beat anyway decent hurdlers on that kind of ground. The going description the day he won at Cheltenham was Soft (g-s in places) but the times that day suggested the ground was riding a lot quicker.

I’d say his ideal surface would be the yielding side of good and there’s next to no chance of him getting anything like that on Sunday. We had a dry day today but it bucketed down for several hours last night.

He beat a load of goats in the Champion Hurdle he wouldn’t blow wind up Hurricane Fly’s backside on any ground. If he does Hurricane Fly’s fans will be hiding in the shadows.

Anyway anyone know who rides Hurricane Fly on Sunday?

Four left in – Clopf, Hurricane Fly, Muirhead, Solwhit.

    Young Townend rides HF.

Hard to know who’ll make the running. Could turn into a bit of a tactical affair.

I’m just wondering how fit Solwit will be for this. He had a run behind last season on the Flat before he went for the Irish Cesarewitch and then went hurdling.

The market will tell all no doubt.

Really hope they are both tuned up for this as it’s the first really decent horse Hurricane Fly has faced in his native country.

Hope it doesn’t turn into a farcical race where there’s no pace as that would be too easy for Hurricae Fly with his turn of foot. Would be nice for me to have him sprint away from the last but I would rather see Solwit applying pressure from about 3 out and see just what HF is made of.

Should be a cracker if they are both near peak fitness.

I can’t see who is going to cut out the running later on today. If it turns into a sprint, which I think is very likely, I can’t see anything doing HF for toe.

I think he’ll be shortening up for Cheltenham tomorrow – well at least I hope so!

The novice form for me, was suspect with Donna’s Palm giving HF a tough time who went on to achieve moderate success, but he did win on re-apperance, HF comes against the better hurdlers for the first time and he is beat already.

Solwhit though has a lot class in his own right and he looks a Champion Hurdle contender with Binocular, think Ruby will stick to Celestial Halo after that.

I bet there are a lot of glum faces around after Hurricane Fly’s flop. And on a day Master Minded failed too…no wonder I avoind ante post punts!

Don’t see that there is a whole lot to be glum about, to be honest.

He has finished within 4L of Solwhit on his first run out of novice company, and even if you give Solwhit the benefit of an additional 3-4 lengths superiority, it is still a very smart effort.

With a run under his belt, and on better ground, Hurricane Fly can improve on this next time. He very much remains in Champion Hurdle contention, imo.

I was a bit disappointed straight after the race but on reflection it was probably a satisfactory enough reappearance given the circumstances.

Willie seemed quite happy with him after the race and that gives me confidence that there’ll be plenty more in him before the spring. Compare that to Nicholls’ reaction after Master Minded’s reverse – he looked puzzled as to how his horse got turned over.
