Excellent behind-the-scenes at Racing Post HQ video on the RP website.
I’m sure we obviously didn’t see the warts and all version but it did give a flavour of what is involved in producing the paper.
August 26, 2009 at 13:48 #245861Wonder where they hid the cases of wine with the "From Victor" labels on, while Lee was doing his rounds Maybe in Bruces’s office the camera never went in there.
August 26, 2009 at 14:17 #245864I think the camera did venture in there Cav – near the end.
August 26, 2009 at 14:29 #245865Was an interesting enough piece I suppose. Although all that effort and so little content. Granted you could say that about most newspapers….
August 26, 2009 at 15:22 #245869I had to allow myself a wry smile when they mentioned "beating the PA" with the Moore / Conduit story – bearing in mind they are increasingly using the PA more and more for their news and even race reports.
August 26, 2009 at 21:02 #245939Nice to hear Millington come out with: "At the end of the day there’s always an end product"… just a week after he launched a ZERO-TOLERANCE campaign on cliches in the media.
August 26, 2009 at 21:17 #245943Do you think Millington will (as one of his inexplicably favoured columnists likes to say) "hold his hands up" to that one, Gumshield?
August 27, 2009 at 01:16 #246000Don’t get me wrong
, Pru,
I’m not having a pop
etc, ad nauseam
August 27, 2009 at 01:35 #246008That’s the one.
August 27, 2009 at 01:48 #246011Any regrets that we didn’t do an equivalent film for the
Sportsman
, Pruf?

August 27, 2009 at 03:08 #246025Was waiting for Roy Mallard to pop up – but no they are actually being serious.
August 27, 2009 at 03:12 #246027Given all the bodies in the background there, it’s no wonder they are struggling to make money. Sort of hits home how outdated the newspaper process is when you consider how quickly the news broke of Moore riding Conduit on the internet, yet it would be only about 16 hours later that anyone relying on the newspaper as the source of information would know.
August 28, 2009 at 19:45 #246261Only just got round to watching this: as a piece of telly I thought it was very good.
August 28, 2009 at 19:54 #246262I quite liked the piece.
Also enjoyed the bit they did on breeding and bloodstock.
August 28, 2009 at 20:54 #246267I had to allow myself a wry smile when they mentioned "beating the PA" with the Moore / Conduit story – bearing in mind they are increasingly using the PA more and more for their news and even race reports.
Anyone using the PA for factual information like race results, SP’s, dividends might as well try using wikipedia – they have roughly the same accuracy level.
August 28, 2009 at 23:57 #246293The Sea The Stars piece is very good also. Hope they keep producing these.
August 29, 2009 at 13:51 #246335…no mention of the computer system that was **** and drove people bananas with crashes; the vulgarian editor; the insanely pedantic old timers from ‘the Life’; the egos; the banalizing (can i use that word) of the sport with dreary and ‘safe’ opinions; the terror of libel law the ignorance of it; the poor communications and man management; the headlines that seemed to have any spark of interest strangled from them…
