After reading Lydia’s thorough reply to Andyman on Iris’s Gift, I look forward to reading her take on the Cheltenham horse fatalities so soon after the Newbury deaths.
March 19, 2006 at 11:53 #90035Many thanks Lydia. It’s great to know people like you are working in the racing industry.
Your point on Nigel Hawke is spot on. A ‘competence’ rule for licensed trainers is necessary.
Thanks, Lydia.
You are a breath of fresh air!
March 19, 2006 at 23:27 #90037Tremendous effort to answer these questions so thoroughly and thought provokingly. The issue of Iris’s Gift’s participation in the Gold Cup has clearly polarised opinion and incited quite a depth of emotional response. I found Lydia’s explanation of her motivation for the article, not to mention the article itself, excellent. It’s a pity that we can’t enjoy her participation in racing discussion here on a regular basis (unless she is, in fact jackane!).
Many thanks again.
March 21, 2006 at 00:24 #90038Excellent and stimulating stuff from Lydia – but that is hardly a surprise.
March 21, 2006 at 11:33 #90039Well done to Lydia-I thought that was an excellent response. She even tackled my Dennis Pennis inspired question.
March 22, 2006 at 09:37 #90040Thanks very much to Lydia for taking the time to compose such comprehensive responses.
She is a refreshing change from the many lightweight, smug or sycophantic broadcasters/journos.
Interesting and balanced views on Iris’s Gift participating in the GC, high admission charges to racecourses in the UK and the campaigning of Pipe horses.
Great minds think alike!
Thanks again
April 13, 2006 at 20:37 #90041Far be it from me to suggest that DL may be behind in his spring-cleaning but it must be near time that Lydia Hislop’s generous contribution found itself firmly ensconced in the our Q & A Hall of Fame.
