Sadly no….we always stay with the MIL obviously! Tripadvisor would be a better bet than me. Lovely little town though.
May 13, 2014 at 15:49 #478937So just in case any of the master punters here want to exercise their ferrari on the M6 Toll, the police do loiter regularly with speed traps!

May 14, 2014 at 21:42 #479069As a Ludlow member I can’t believe there’s another course in England with such a diehard membership. The same people are there for every meeting.
Best small course in England. Good prize money too. Although for some reason, whilst Henderson loves the place (Punjabi and MTOY both made their debuts there), the likes of King and Nicholls rarely send good uns.
May 15, 2014 at 08:41 #479080I’m told that the BHA is giving each owner £500 compensation. Better than nothing I suppose, but it means that the balance of the prize-money (£7K) will be retained by Ludlow as reward for their incompetence.
May 15, 2014 at 08:57 #479085To be fair, Ludlow can’t be blamed for anything the starter or his team did (or didn’t do), as they are employed by the BHA and are not even responsible to the local stewards, which is why their report on the cock-up has to be forwarded to head office.
And we simply don’t know yet how or when the starter made it clear that the race was void and should be stopped – but we do know from the TV pictures that the starter and the recall man were nowhere to be seen when the horses passed the starting point after a circuit.
May 15, 2014 at 09:55 #479088Mike said that someone was waving a flag right at the start of the race; he said at the time that it was a green flag and I wasn’t sure what colour flag they use for whatever [other than the checquered flag that is].
May 15, 2014 at 11:03 #479095Moe,
The starter was waving a yellow flag to indicate a false start, which is supposed to be seen by the recall man in front of the first fence.
As I wrote on here many years ago, it would make more sense to give up using signalling methods employed by the Royal Navy in the 18th century and give the starter one of those aerosol cans with a horn attached. That would leave nobody in any doubt that there had been a false start!

May 15, 2014 at 11:42 #479100It;s all a bit surreal isn’t it, given that the horses, jockeys started and assistants were all within what was surely just a few yards of each other
Mind you, I’m not knocking Ludlow otself as I find the track, it’s location and the staff lovely [we stopped going to our local track, Uttoxeter years ago after encountering a lot of drunkeness and grumpiness , although it might have changed since then]. It’s the ‘Kelso of the South’ imo [Ludlow that is] albeit without the carrots.May 16, 2014 at 06:44 #479145I thought starters were in constant communication with jockeys at the start now via microphone and speakers.
How come this isn’t effective in the event of a false start?
November 13, 2014 at 20:03 #495056Been to Ludlow this afternoon and noticed that they have given up using the start that caused the problem. The 3M chases are now run over 3M 1F 110Yds and they start at the entrance to the home straight, same place as the 2M hurdle races.
So a positive reaction to address the problem.

I think you’re wrong there ap, there have always been races over 3M 1F 110 Yds as well as 3 miles so don’t believe there has been any change.
