well ascot got away with just beating the frost yesterday but what a step back in time it was.
i thought we had seen the last of meetings at the big tracks getting a late go ahead,if cheltenham could cover the WHOLE course last weekend then why didnt ascot on friday evening?
could it be that after the expensive building failure of the new stand ascot is so hard up for cash that it couldnt afford to.
i noticed at the last meeting the carey group chase prize fund was slashed from 120,000 to 70,000 and that followed the queen elizabeth II stakes going from 250,000 to 200,000.
clearly there are a lot problems at ascot

Ascot did use covers onernight on Thursday for Friday’s meeting.

By the time racing finished on Friday temperatures were already around freezing and I suspect the frost would already have started getting into the ground, add to this all the divots from Friday’s racing, then I have a feeling putting the covers down may have made matters worse as it would have trapped the frost in the ground.

    Well that’s my theory anyway!!!
