Hi, I’m Jon Franklin, a former racecourse photographer turned writer.
My novels Shouting The Odds (2021) and Manvers Road Star (published earlier this year ) have both been reviewed positively in the Racing Post.
Dave Ord in the Sporting Life commented: ‘Horse racing and betting fiction tends to be straight out of the Dick Francis school of writing. Franklin’s books aren’t and refreshingly so.’

October 27, 2025 at 15:24 #1743200Are you any relation to Andrew, Jon?
October 28, 2025 at 06:37 #1743231Great to hear. I do hope you enjoy it. Nice way of keeping the racing theme to Christmas going after the King George meeting at Kempton! Be sure to leave some feedback here next year!
October 28, 2025 at 06:41 #1743232Surprisingly you are the first person to ask me that! No, I’m not actually.
When I started at William Hill back in the nineties, one or two of my new colleagues did rib me about being a Franklin – suspecting that I would be fast tracked into management for a while before joining the Channel 4 racing team in some capacity!Alas this never happened.
October 28, 2025 at 14:49 #1743251Really enjoyed the Eddie Malloy series, by Richard Pitman and Joe McNally
October 29, 2025 at 16:28 #1743290Hi,
Funny that you mention Joe. Not only is he a great writer he is a top bloke too. We’ve corresponded with one another for a couple of years now. Below is a link to his review of Shouting The Odds:
Best wishes, Jon
October 30, 2025 at 20:17 #1743333Good luck with the books Jon, look forward to reading them. I presume you are plugging them as widely as possible on social media; Twitter is esp effective in my experience, even tho on the political side it has become a cesspit
November 5, 2025 at 12:06 #1743906Hello, thank you for your comments. I agree with you re. X. When I released Shouting The Odds in 2021, I enjoyed a lot of really good exposure and sales through Twitter as it was then. Simon Nott latched on to it and the book received a lot of support from the likes of Carl Hinchy, good ol’ Joe McNally and several others.
Joe McNally has been a great supporter of mine and has offered endless advice re. placement of the books and so forth. I have got better with social media and get plenty of inter action on my Instagram account and lately in Facebook groups.
Thank you for the interest in my books – and if you do read them, be sure to get back to me with your thoughts.
November 6, 2025 at 09:12 #1743937Morning all,
Below you find a link to a reel I have put out on Instagram.
My question to anyone who views it is can anyone name the racecourse where I shot the video clips?
By all means share it around with anyone.
I shall post the answer in a few days time! - AuthorPosts
